This once grand old lady is well past her prime. They didn't have our Expedia reservation right in terms of number of rooms, but fortunately I had a print out to show what I had booked. I still had to pay again for an already prepaid reservation (later sorted out with AMEX and Expedia), but it took us 40 minutes to check in. It was a frustrating experience, even though the girl at the desk was wonderful. But she had to keep calling her manager who never showed up.
The rooms we booked were junior suites. The were large, and decorated in a style that is supposed to resemble a Spanish mission. They were true to their origin in that there were no electrical outlets anywhere, not at the desk, not at the night stands. These rooms are designed for real missionary travelers, writing with goose quills and communicating by carrier pigeon. Although we could connect to the hotel's wifi, the wifi was never connected to the internet.
Yet, if the whole experience resembled a throwback of what 18th century travelers must have felt like, that also applies to the personnel. Super friendly, helpful, cordial, just super nice.
