Nice hotel, but poor response to power outage!
Amanzi Hotel had an extended power outage (due to a neighborhood problem with SoCal Edison) from about 10:15PM-11:30PM Friday evening and again about 2AM-5PM Saturday (over 16 hours total). Although this was not their fault, there was no light, no heat, no hot water, no room phone, and no elevator. The emergency hallway lights ran out of power after several hours, too. We give them credit for cooking a hot breakfast using the unaffected gas stove, but the canned juice and muddy coffee were substandard. The front desk said that these outages "don't happen too often" and had no info about how long we would be without power. They could have had an emergency generator, or at least should have distributed small lights and information flyers under the doors, etc. to help the situation. Also, the spa was roped off and unusable (separate from the power outage).
We essentially lost one day of our weekend vacation due to poor sleep in a very cold room, dark nighttime trips to the bathroom, and no hot water for a morning shower. Amanzi should have offered a partial refund or a voucher for a future stay.
