Echo Park Lake is a family-friendly destination with some of the area's most scenic views of the LA skyline, as well as outdoor activities to enjoy at a leisurely pace. This sliver of paradise with fountains and a winding path surrounded by palm trees sits just outside the heart of the city.

From wetlands to lotus flowers to swan-shaped pedal boats, Echo Park Lake is an oasis of natural beauty and avian wildlife in the midst of a concrete jungle. Many come just to jog around the outer path or take their dog for a walk while soaking in the scenery.

Highlights of Echo Park Lake

The tree-surrounded walking paths are the main attraction of Echo Lake Park and provide a change of pace from the busy LA lifestyle. The lake can be enjoyed by renting swan-shaped pedal boats for a romantic excursion or immersive view of the surroundings, and many families come to picnic at the available tables.

The old boathouse has been turned into Beacon, a café that serves breakfast made entirely of locally sourced ingredients. Here, you can enjoy a casual breakfast with scenic lakeside views. On the northern edge of the lake is the art deco statute known as Lady of the Lake.

Good to know when visiting Echo Park Lake

Each year, Echo Park Lake hosts a Lotus Festival that celebrates the blooming lotus flower and Asian-Pacific culture. At the festival, you can witness dragon boat races, enjoy cultural performances, hear live music, and savour delicious lotus-inspired foods.

Echo Park Lake is located near US 101 northwest of city centre LA, and just a few blocks from Elysian Park. Parking is available, but many choose public transport or ride-sharing, as the lot and streetside parking fill up fast. Echo Park has free admission, but pedal boats can be rented for a small hourly fee.
