Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

What you need to know before you go

Bourgogne-Franche-Comté is a relatively new eastern region of France that combines Burgundy with Franche-Comté and offers both Burgundy’s fascinating artistic and historical value and Franche-Comté’s natural splendour. The capital of the region, Besançon, features the impressive Citadel of Besançon, which still stands tall thanks to its durable 17th-century Vauban-designed architecture. Several museums are located inside as well, so it’s a great place for travellers to dive into local and French history.

For travellers more interested in the natural wonders of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, the Vosges Massif and Jura Mountains open the gates to unforgettable hikes, trails and outdoor adventures. The Belvedere of the 4 Lakes is a shining example of this region’s impressive natural features with a viewpoint that allows visitors to see Grand Maclu, Petit Maclu, Ilay and Narlay. This site also puts travellers close to a hiking trail that takes about 2 hours and offers sights of a brilliant succession of waterfalls.
