The Grundy Art Gallery is a contemporary art gallery that offers a range of exhibitions that highlight historic and topical subjects. Located in a heritage Edwardian building, the gallery focuses on the works of both established and emerging artists in the UK, as well as important works from major institutions.
The gallery hosts temporary exhibitions programmes and permanent displays throughout the year and features an eclectic range of media and styles. Some of the notable artists featured include Augustus John, Paul Nash, Thomas Creswick and Benjamin Williams Leader.

Grundy Art Gallery highlights
The Grundy Art Gallery has an extensive collection of modern British paintings, Victorian oils and watercolours, contemporary prints, oriental ivories, jewellery, ceramics and historic archives of Blackpool. The collection focuses on works of global, regional or local significance rather than adhering strictly to the contemporary style.
In total, the gallery’s collection contains nearly 2,000 individual artefacts and comprises 3 gallery spaces. Some notable works include ‘A Girl Writing at a Desk’, which was featured as the cover of 2 Virginia Woolf books. You could also see ‘Sanctuary Wood’ by English landscape artist Paul Nash and ‘Woods and Forests’ by English landscape artist John Linnell.
Good to know when visiting Grundy Art Gallery
For parking, there’s a pay-and-display car park next to the gallery on Queen Street. Another park is available for disabled badge holders on Queen Street. Several alternative parking areas can be found on nearby Talbot Road and East Topping Street, which are just about a 5-minute walk away from the gallery. You can walk to the gallery from the town centre or take the train as well.
Numerous attractions can be found near the Grundy Art Gallery, such as the Blackpool Tower Dungeon and the Crypt, a haunted attraction. North Pier is also close and offers a seafront promenade with theatres and nightlife.
