Wiltshire

What you need to know before you go

Wiltshire is an iconic region where travellers can immerse themselves in natural splendour while being seemingly transported into the past with the numerous historical sites throughout the area. The most well-known attraction here is Stonehenge, the mysterious Neolithic structure that showcases a collection of upright stones with an unknown purpose dating back to 3000 BCE to 2000 BCE. Guided tours of the monument will let you in on some of the most popular theories.

Travellers looking for historic adventures can visit several different sites in Wiltshire besides Stonehenge. Old Wardour Castle is a ruined fortress dating back to the 14th century, while Silbury Hill is a chalk mound that dates back even further, estimated to have been constructed around 2400 BCE. West Kennet Long Barrow is yet another Neolithic site travellers can explore. If you want a challenge, however, you may want to visit Longleat Hedge Maze, which is among the world’s longest mazes.
