The Castro Theatre is a San Francisco film palace that offers stunning architecture, luxurious surroundings, and great projection and sound with all the latest indie film hits. The palace is a popular destination in San Francisco offering films and special events with a focus on multicultural celebrations and presentations. 

It's been host to a number of world film festivals over the years and has hosted gala tributes to legendary stars of the silver screen. Though the architecture is grand, the theater's focus is on a refined and outstanding film experience, with the ability to present everything from 4K films to silent films.

Highlights of the Castro Theatre

The Castro Theatre is famous for its events, festivals, and gala celebrations. Over the years, it has hosted the San Francisco Film Noir Festival, SF IndieFest, the San Francisco International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, the San Francisco International Film Festival, the Shock It To Me! Classic Horror Film Festival, and many other themed and general exhibitions. 

In addition, it has hosted a wide range of gala tribute events that have recognised legendary contributors to the silver screen throughout history. These have included Ann-Margret, Tony Curtis, Debbie Reynolds, Ann Miller, Jane Russell, Mitzi Gaynor, Sandra Dee, Kim Novak, and other film icons.

Good to know about the Castro Theatre

The Castro Theatre has full 4K DCP projection with 5.1 Dolby sound. It's capable of faithfully reproducing the experience of silent films with the ability to project between 12 and 30 frames per second, and it's also capable of showing 70 mm films. It's one of the few theatres in the country outfitted with this capability. 

The theatre is fully disability accessible, with door staff available to assist with any mobility issues. Accessible bathroom stalls can be found in all bathrooms. The theatre has assistive hearing devices for those who are hearing impaired.
