A pleasant visit
We were cruising 3 days/2 nights in Halong Bay. Staying overnight offers a good way to explore the bay. The Ancora is a new ship with nice cabins. Our cabin was spacious with jacuzzi tub and a private sun deck! The food was ok, but we were expecting to get more tasty Vietnamese food, especially seafood. At the dinner some "hot" food was more or less cold. They even served the same buffet both nights. Breakfast was a disappointment. To our surprise it lacked of fresh fruits other than bananas.They had a nice cooking class every night but with the same dish. We were expected to cruise more around the bay, but most of the time the ship was anchored. Fortunately the views were fantastic. During the cruise we saw some beautiful limestone caves with stalagmites and stalactites. In the second day we were transferred to smaller day boat. It cruised around islets and we visited a nice cave. We would have enjoyed to see more caves. At the boat the food was good and they even offered nice seafood. We and some others had already been in pearl farms, but they could not offer the alternative program as they promised. Selling pearls was more important to them! Although it drizzled a bit we still could enjoy the beauty of Halong Bay, but they could have arranged the itinerary according to weather like seeing a cave instead of not-possible-but-programmed-sunbathing. During our stay they did not clean the cabin at all, at least they could have emptied the toilet pin. Crew was friendly.
