The worst hotel stay in my recent memory
The property itself wasn’t bad but it was not as advertised. This is not a 4 star property in my opinion. I am on a 2-week roadtrip and stayed at properties of all classes. My 2 and 3 star hotel stays elsewhere exceeded my experience at Calistoga Motor Lodge. Our 4-star unit was outdated and has several marks and stains on the walls. The front door had a slight gap at the base, which allowed small bugs to get through. The first night I killed a sizable beetle crawling on the carpet. Service was also subpar: the night I checked in there was a massive line to check in because rooms were not yet cleaned or ready. Although my room was ready when I reached the front, I still had to wait in a line for over 30 mins just to check in. There was no acknowledgment by staff or management. I was advised that there would be complementary breakfast in the AM, but when I arrived in the lobby at 8:30am, there was no food, water or coffee. No one was at the desk for 40 mins and people who worked at the hotel completely ignored the guest who were waiting out front. I was advised later that morning that there would be no breakfast. When coffee was finally brought out, it tasted like salt water. We told staff of the issue; I was advised later that afternoon that maintenance refused to fix the issue with the water, so hot water was provided for tea only. Lastly, I booked the hotel because of the advertised sauna and steam room, but it was only for spa guests.
