The counter / staff / "customer service " agents at the front and on the phone are some of the nastiest, least friendly, and RUDE people i have encountered, traveling, especially in the Midwest. The night grouch has a real problem with you if you dared to book through a 3rd party, such as Hotels.com, which frankly makes no sense. What does she care? Is she paid a % ? Of course not.
Is my booking helping to pay for her miserable employment existence?

She is a nightmare, this lady, and refused to accept our prepaid stay, that I had Paid 5 months earlier! She forced me to pay again, which I only did because of the miserable string of events it took just to get there, and we were already late to my friend's wedding rehearsal. Didnt have many options in this smaller town, at that hour, at least.
Now , mind you, this place was maybe 50-60% full, and checkout is at 11am.....at 11:03am on Sunday
morning, another angry individual starting banging on our door like she was the police. Repeatedly. 3 minutes after 11??? And when i opened the door, more bad attitude about checking out!
A lot of angry, irritable, irritated people working here. The room and hotel itself is fine, besides the way below average breakfast.
These specific 2 key employees should hit the road because as a business owner myself, their behavior was unacceptable on every level and that kind of word of mouth is poison for a business.
will obviously NEVER
