First I'll say, THE ROOMS DON'T HAVE HEAT! Most places in C.R. this doesn't matter, but it was 59 degrees and raining when we arrived and our room was that temp in the room all night. This may be why Expedia calls this a "hostel". The next night they loaned me a space heater.
I was excited to stay here because I've stayed at some cool eco-resorts, but it turns out this is a corporate chain. The rooms were very basic and not kept up (e.g. broken light, window didn't work right), which felt disappointing since we'd paid the same amount as other, nicer places. It also felt like we were being charged extra for everything. I ordered a salad plate with falafel and they charged $1.45 for a little 1/4 of tzatziki sauce. The menu seemed to have some good options, but the food wasn't very good. The "complimentary" drink is not a drink of your choice, but a hot cup of sugar cane water. You can reserve one time slot a day for the jacuzzi.
The pros are the location, which is right next to the shuttle parking lot for the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. (the downside of this is the road gets bad the 1/4 mile before the hotel.) There also are some nice gardens around the property and some cool decor.
