Sort of nice hotel with room for improvement
We just spent 4 nights in Sterling Goa Varca. The hotel is a 4* property but lack of detail in multiple things, especially cleanliness, decreases it's points. Also the quality vs. the 9000 Rs. / night price doesn't seem adequate. The clientele seems to consist mainly of Indian and Russian tourists so maybe they have a different standard for such hotels than westerners.
Pros:
- Employees are friendly and most of them speak English
- Breakfast spread is ok with multiple Indian and continental choices
- Hotel is 5-10 min walk from the nice Varca beach
- There are resort type activities arranged for residents (some for free, others for a price)
Cons:
- We had to complain almost every day for stains in our sheets or towels
- The room didn't have hand towels and we got only one during the third day of our stay after complaining
- We had to ask for more toilet paper all the time as there was only one small roll / day
- Our shower didn't at times have hot water and the sink faucet didn't at times have cold water
- The button to switch between the shower and faucet was broken in our bathroom. We complained and a plumber came to have a look but nothing happened
- Wi-Fi is free only for 1h / stay
- The pool area was almost completely in shade throughout the day
- During evenings the air outside is smoky due to people in the area burning trash outside
- Taxis in the area ask for ridiculous prices except if you arrange airport transfer with the front desk
