No matter how many laudative words you attach in front of the name of the hotel - Splendid, Star and Grand give it a very illustrious vibe - it's good to note that this is a 3-star hotel for people who visit the Old Town. It's very steadily exactly that - the pictures do make it look amazing, but be prepared that it's not nearly in as good shape as you might understand at a glance.
Our experience was, we booked it for 6 nights, but stayed only for one. The service staff was kind enough, but mind you, I'm a heavy-set guy, it's actually not good customer service to loudly note how big you are, and wonder how much you can eat when you enter. That's actually pretty rude. While I do get some funny looks especially when traveling in S.E. Asia for my height and size, one would expect hotel staff to keep their opinions to themselves. I'm sure it wasn't meant bad, but after 20+ hours of travel in small planes, trains and automobiles, it's not what you want to have to deal with the first thing you check in.
The room itself has what it promises, but for example we didn't have hot water (staff did fix it when we complained), and the bed is rather hard and uncomfortable with only one set of pillows.
When checking out after one night, the staff didn't try to really offer a refund - they were not entitled to, but vice versa, I'm not entitled to give a nice review.
