Simply said, Sofitel Mauritus is one of the best hotels I've ever been to, and I've seen pretty many. Hotel itself is luxurious and the staff is professional and friendly. Overall Price/Quality relation is quite good (though some drinks and foods seemed a bit overpriced). This is definitely a great place to relax, not to party.
An awesome view to the pool and ocean opens directly from the hotel entrance and cold drinks were served during check in. The "ocean view luxury room" was OK, nothing special, but had everything you need and there really was a great view to the ocean. Only thing missing were hooks or strings to hang the wet clothes and towels.
The hotel beach was kept in excellent condition. We read from TripAdvisor some complaints about the condition of the beach before our trip, but couldn't agree. Of course there is seaweed and coral in an ocean. If you're afraid of nature, stay in the pool. There is pedal boats, kayaks, snorkels etc. for free and reasonably priced scuba diving and boat trips (e.g. to see dolphins).
The location is quite distant, ~4km from the Filc-en-Flac village. The prices of the restaurants in the village are roughly half compared to the hotel. Luckily there is a bus station a few hundred meters from the hotel. Local bus to the village is 10x cheaper and to the capital (departing every 20 minutes) 50x cheaper than the hotel taxi, but the busses don't go after sunset.
