The hotel room itself was quite nice, well-kept and comfortable.
Pleasant staff, but managerial policies are more about control than service. A request for a common-sense customer service was met with three "not possible" answers before someone took the time to actually see if it was possible - and then there was a "yes, but" that included a "but" that seemed unnecessary and borderline insulting.
The adequately sized and adequately equipped (for two or three people) exercise room was too warm (hotter than the main lobby) and poorly ventilated (exhaust fan was either broken or turned off). Multiple requests that the air conditioning be turned up (to better cool the room) had no impact. Water cooler "change filter" light was on throughout our five day stay. On one occasion there was a large wet, possibly due to rusty water, section of rug in the middle of the exercise room.
The pool is quite small and dark - though technically "outdoors," there is little to no sky visible.
Also, the hotel lobby/front desk/entrance/elevators and pool are shared with a separate building that is being used as a dorm. Waikiki is a busy and hectic place so having busy and hectic common areas wasn't shocking. Still, all the extra busy and hectic within the "hotel" did not enhance our stay.
