As soon as my mother-in-law found out we were staying at a SureStay, she let out a bit of a groan and an "oh dear."
We hoped that this stay could prove her past experiences as outliers, but the moment we got into our room, there were problems. The floor was dirty. The smell reminded me of the carpeted pet store I went to regularly as a kid 30 years ago. We came in late, so as soon as we brought our things in, it was straight to the shower–where there was a clump of somebody else's hair on the bathtub rim, the caulk was pink with bacteria, and the toilet had mold streaked as though one cursory swipe with the brush was sufficient.
Then, my mother-in-law popped out the hide-a-bed to prepare it. The sheets smelled, and as she was about to write that off, she pulled them down and found dirt and sand at the bottom–they had not been changed at all! The office was kind enough to replace them, but it all was a frustrating confirmation that we're "Sure-not-Stay-ing here again!"
