La Fortuna Backpackers Resort

Very clean. Not many amenities, some hammocks and an outdoor kitchen. Reason for the lower rating is it reflected that breakfast was included. I read prior reviews of people saying theirs said the same but that the staff said it was in fact not included. Therefor i screenshoted my room booking that said breakfast included. When i got there, of course i had the same issue. They told me breakfast was not included. I then showed them on the expedia site of their own bookings that their posting says its included. Her resonse was thats it was not included in the price paid. Either way its the hostels problem sounds like they advertised incorrectly . She said she would check with the manager. I stayed there 2 days and she never acknowledged it, apologized, or gave us breakfast. Not good service in my opinion, was not handled.

While we did not get to stay here as hoped, apparently another guest "broke" our room the night before. They did go out of their way to re-book us a new hotel that offered all of the same amenities and give us free laundry coupons. Staff was beyond nice and even took us to our new hotel.

Loved it here! Will definitely come back! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Quiet hostel at the edge of town in La Fortuna. Not a ton of atmosphere, but a good place to get away from the noise. Private room was clean and comfortable.

Cheap and clean

This is a great place to stay and the staff is a) super helpful, and b) extremely accommodating (I had a stomach bug while here, and the hotel staff helped make suffering through that bearable). I will say that the dorms could be improved - a separate place for showering and a separate toilet would help, and some of the beds lack easy access to stairs.

I did like the location, walking distances to the downtown of the Fortuna. I didn't like the fact that I called ahead of time confirming that our breakfast was included as advertised and they said yes, when we check in the front desk said that he never told us the breakfast was included and it was nothing he can do about it, so make sure when you book with them print all your info

Breakfast was nice but the portions could have been larger. Great stay otherwise.

(+) * great breakfast * free parking * comfortable room and spacious surroundings (-) * check-in experience was not good. i drove 5 hours from puerto viejo prior to arriving in la fortuna. when i reached the front desk, staff Milton told me that i had not paid for my room yet; and thus wanted to charge me again. i had no choice but to call hotels.com; and it was confirmed that i had, indeed, fully paid for my room. it was confirmed to me that Milton was only temporarily manning the front desk; and he did not know where to "find" the updated payment details. i hope the regular staff train their substitute staff well. the whole experience took me at least 30 minutes to check in. note that i was the only guest checking in that time.

Great value for the money. The staff are very attentive, friendly and helpful. You won't be disappointed.
