Hotel Banana Azul - Adults Only

Staff fantastic, rooms very clean, large shower, great internet. The staff was the best I have ever encountered and all speak great English. Even the gardener went out of his way to find and bring me a miniture pinapple plant I couldnt find anywhere else in Costa Rica. This hotel is very close to the best beaches and the city of Puerto Viejo. The only downside was it is HOT AS HELL there even in the winter and the celing fan and strandalone fan can cool the room in the day with all doors open but at night with all the mosquitos all doors and windows need to be closed and the fans just blow hot air around. Comfortable bed but imposdible to sleep in the heat. A/C NEEDED in all rooms. Also thier resturant food is not advised, after 2 nights we decided to eat at local resturants which had excelent food. Overall a great experience but next time I will get an airconditioned room.

Very quaint and charming - excellent service/staff. Great location, right on the beach and within walking (or biking) distance to town. Only small downside is no A/C - but not a huge problem. Rooms get a nice breeze and there is a fan in the room.

What a beautiful place to stay! Highly recommend. The staff was amazing and so much fun! The beach club service was on point! We rented bikes and rode into town from our hotel. Booked all our excursions from the hotel, had amazing free breakfast every day. The nachos are to die for!! They had happy hour specials and dinner specials every day. The rooms were beautiful, no a/c but you don’t need it, the temp is perfect and the fans in the rooms work great! Wonderful experience!!

Customer service and proximity to the beach were great. Food was excellent but expensive. Our room though was very small and had no air conditioning and was not fully enclosed so clothes got wet from the humidity and stayed wet.

We stayed in Beach Front Apartment and it was a great value for the price. We loved the full kitchen and the AC in the bedrooms. It was so close to the beach we could hear the sound of the waves as we fell asleep. Amazing patio with plenty of room to relax. In terms of the hotel amenities, we were very impressed by the attention to detail, cleanliness, and thoughtful small touches. They thought of everything! Caribe Fun Tours is housed on sight so you can schedule outings with ease. The on site restaurant and bar is very convenient and has delicious food and drink. It was super clean and everyone was very helpful. Also - gay friendly and inclusive. My wife and I loved our time there and hope to return soon.

Our stay was awesome! The room was basic/rustic but the staff was fantastic and the overall look/facilities/areas were very nice and well-kept. Beach access was phenomenal. Perfect escape.

LOVED this place! It was my first time travelling alone internationally and I could not have picked a better, more accomodating place. It had everything I needed, from the on-site restaurant and bar (with AMAZING, fresh, homemade food), private, wonderful beach with towels and chairs included. The private deck and hammock were a huge bonus! Because of its open concept, I could hear my neighbors' voices. But, it really didn't bother me that much. I would highly recommend Banana Azul, and I hope to be back again soon!!

This was my second time staying at this property and it is one of my favorite hotels, not just in Costa Rica, but anywhere. It is by far the best property in the area. The beach is quiet, the water is perfect for swimming or boogie boarding, the grounds of the hotel are beautiful as well. The food at the restaurant is so good that you do not need to even leave the hotel if you don't want to. The included breakfast is great, we had every lunch at the hotel, and only left twice to have dinners in the small town of Puerto Viejo. The best part of the hotel, however, is the staff. They make you feel right at home and actually take the time to get to know each individual guest. They go above and beyond and it is absolutely clear they all love what they do. Whenever I go to the Caribbean side of Costa Rica I will ALWAYS stay here.
