Beautiful property, poor management — 6/10
Stayed in July 2026 for a cycling trip. Hotel itself is a 9/10, but service and upkeep drag it down.
Pros:
Stunning mountain views from rooms, dining room, and garden
On-site onsen with real hot spring water, spacious and scenic
Great breakfast buffet, Japanese and Western options plus daily set plate
Spacious rooms, some with bathtubs overlooking the garden
Lovely lobby with free drinks and snacks
Cons:
We confirmed dinner twice by message before arrival, then learned at check-in the kitchen was closed for dinner with zero warning. No rental car meant scrambling for taxis and last-minute bookings every night, in the rain, after long bike days
Staff didn't help book replacement restaurants, just handed us a Japanese-only list. We found the phone numbers ourselves and staff still struggled to make calls
Staff weren't very professional: no greetings in the lobby, unhelpful with luggage, and they'd hover right over you at breakfast the second you sat down
Our room had a strong musty smell. Staff sprayed air freshener, offered no real fix, and claimed the hotel was full, though another guest in our group extended their stay
Onsen was dirty: sediment in the bath, windows covered in dead bugs, hair throughout the women's side. Finally cleaned on our last day, and the wood visibly changed color
Great bones, but the gap between space and service is frustrating at this price.
