I’d say this is a 2.5 star hotel; not really deserving of a 4 star rating. Admittedly, this hotel is really well situated, steps from Old Town Square. It’s also a historic building with lots of charm. Again, it’s located in an ideal location and close to everything. And in many ways, I think they bank and rely on that. I typically don’t write reviews but given the price they charge, I wanted to give folks some additional information when looking at hotels. However, having a room by the stairs kept me up. I woke up throughout the night and would wake up early due to the noise in the lobby. I could hear conversations and the phone ring at 2-3 in the morning. You can also smell the food from the restaurant immediate below. So if you’re sensitive to smell as I am, you should consider staying elsewhere. So needless to say, this all added up to an unpleasant stay, unfortunately. I asked to change to a different room but they said they were booked up. Prague is not of my favorite cities to visit and I know I’ll be back. Just not to this particular hotel.

My second lodging at the Cerny Slon, ten years apart. Though, ten years isn't long considering the building's foundation was set well over 600 years ago. I think the only homes we have that old in the United States are the cave dwellings of the Anasazi. Notwithstanding, the structure is in excellent shape, everything worked just fine, including wifi. The location is spectacular just off Old Town Square. The staff is kind, accommodating, helpful and very professional. And the small restaurant serves wonderful authentic Czech cuisine. In all, it's my favorite place to stay in my favorite European city. Cheers for Hotel Cerny Slon, The Black Elephant.

Room was very dark with large dark furniture. The table lamps were dim and I was unable to read in the room. furniture had cigarette burns. This is listed as a 4 star hotel. Perhaps as a single woman I got the worst room??The staff was friendly and location excellent plus.
