Delightful old-fashioned hotel in a great location

They’re coping pretty well with Covid but expect to wear a mask and gloves to go to the breakfast buffet. After we complained about faulty lights in the bathroom we were upgraded to a beautiful Georgian room with a chandelier. Nice outdoor terrace for drinks which are reasonably priced for a hotel

Lovely hotel except for breakfast

Great location, friendly staffs especially the young male receptionist (always a smile). Lovely comfortable room. Only gripe is the breakfast which is only cereals, fruit and croissant and sent to the room which doesn't even have a table. They can easily serve it in the bar which is opened all day

Disappointing

Hotels.com confirmed on my booking that freshly cooked breakfast was part of the deal. Its the reason I chose this hotel over another nice one. The hotel manager said we could only have continental and refused to discount our room rate. She failed to acknowledge the fact that it was the reason I'd chosen this room rate over the other at the same price. She blamed Hotel.com saying she didn't advertise with them abd yook no responsibility for the disappointment it created. My gripe is that i would have expected a supposedly 4 star boutique hotel to be understanding of the lack of service experience and offer a proper apology and some money back since we took no breakfast at all. Interestibg building, nice bathroom and comfortable bed but service and attitude definitely needs work. I regularly stay in smaller hotels and there was nothing about this one that made it any better but it was about £30 more expensive for less of an experience.

Needs TLC

Hotel is a bit shabby in places. Dressing gowns in room had holes and rips in, stains on the carpet and cracks in bathroom tiles. Room was good in size and had everything we needed but we were placed on the ground floor along the main road so it was noisy from the room upstairs walking about and the road. The bed wasn’t very comfortable either so we didn’t sleep very well!

Nice hotel and staff, breakfast is disappointing

The hotel is nice and rooms are spacious. The staff were particulary lovely. However, the first night we were there was extremely hot and the air conditioning wasnt working, we had booked a Georgian room but I requested we were moved to a room with air conditioning due to the heatwave so was disappointed it wasn't working initially (particularly as the Georgian room was actually more expensive and that's the rate we paid). Secondly, the hotel is advertised on hotels.com as having free cooked to order breakfast, however this wasnt the case. A cooked breakfast couldnt be offered due to the closed kitchen which was a precaution due to covid-19, so instead you got given a continental option to your room. I understand this, however at a price of over £100 a night and having booked it expecting breakfast i think guests should be able to have more than one single croissant or a small bowl of cereal for breakfast. If the kitchen is not working then I think guests should be allowed more than one item from the continental menu (which didnt even include toast).

Fabulous stay. Hotel was exceptionally clean and centred in the heart of town. Breakfast was served to our room to ensure social distancing. Staff were super friendly and extremely helpful and our room was superb.I highly recommend this wonderful hotel and will definitely be back

Disappointing

Understaffed. One person expected to run Check In and the Bar resulted in the process taking at least 30 minutes, much of which was spent outside waiting for the ramp for wheelchair access to be located. There is a Car Park at the rear with easy access , but we weren’t told this. Nor were we told that we were booked in On a room only basis, even though Hotels.com display free breakfast against the room options. The room , however was large and clean with Airconditioning, which was very welcome. Housekeeping was not available, which was also a surprise, although I suppose we could have anticipated it. No mention of the restaurant being closed , either. This Hotel is in a great location and the rooms are not bad. The aforementioned Aircon is a great addition and we found our room to be very quiet, a rare thing these days. The Staff were helpful , especially housekeeping, when our TV stopped working. Even before we arrived we were warned that our first choice of room was inaccessible and we were offered an alternative for which we are very grateful. With more staff and a little more effort , it would get a better review. If Hotels.com had checked what was being offered and updated the details, our stay would have been less frustrating.

Great Central Hotel

Very nice hotel in the centre of Norwich. Staff were very helpful and couldn’t do enough. Would recommend this to others.
