The Plantation Urban Resort and Spa - Phnom Penh

This little gem is found in a location almost backing on to the Palace and Silver Pagoda in Phnom Penh - though it takes 10 minutes to walk around the walls to the front entrance. As in a lot of places in Asia the street frontage looks a little dodgy but once inside, then the Plantation Urban Resort is an oasis after a busy day of sight seeing. I loved […] the modern amenities and decor and the fact that each room had a balcony with a couple of chairs and table to sit out on and relax. Even more relaxing was to sit around the pool in the individual cabanas that lined it, in the shade, some with fans, and enjoy a drink or two before dinner. This feature of the hotel sets it apart from others in the same star rating category. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Breakfasts here were delightful and varied though I'd have appreciated covers over some of the dishes from a hygeine perspective. There were 3 or 4 computers in the main lobby area for guests use - free of charge and also wifi - though we didn't use it, and always a few tuk tuk, motor bikes or taxis out front to take you wherever you wanted to go. I stayed 2 nights and was very happy with how quiet a place this was given that it's in a popular tourist area of Phnom Penh. The pool is gorgeous and a great way to end a hot day of touring. I would absolutely stay here again. Staff were also very accommodating and friendly.

Beautiful, stylish and centrally located

The hotel just opened in December. We loved the design elements of the hotel, the convenience of the location and the cleanliness of the space. An oasis. Breakfast was good. Love the free wifi. Wow. This was a great surprise, recommended by a French resort owner from Kep. From the street, it's tucked away in an undistinguished commercial block, but walk into the complex, and stress just evaporates. The owner has creatively transformed an old admin building into a cool retreat. Even in the middle of the city, it's remarkably peaceful inside […] the courtyard where the pool and garden are. The rooms are modern and pleasant. The hotel is within walking distance to the Grand Palace, riverfront, as well as tons of restaurants, bars, shopping. There's a vegetarian restaurant 3 blocks away (Called The Vegetarian Cafe, I believe -- good food, cheap prices!) The breakfast buffet was great. Two words of caution - the address was confusing and was a block away from where it would have been chronologically. Also, I got a strong shock plugging in a coffee pot. I tried to tell the staff but wasn't sure I was getting my point across. Be cautious. Otherwise, I highly recommend this hotel that lives up to its name as a retreat in the city! The layout of this hotel and its rooms as well as the furnishings and pool area are beautiful. My room was as clean and comfortable as they get, complete with king-sized bed, a comfy cushioned nook area, cable TV, in-room safe and my own private patio. The pool area is lush and surrounded with trees and shaded beds, but also plenty of beds in the sun […] for working on your tan. The only downside was the restaurant, as the menu was rather small and limited. The location is good, with the Royal Palace and National Museum a short walk and everything else a cheap tuk-tuk ride. Very new, very nice. I am returning again to stay at this hotel upon my return from siem reap and sihanoukville 10 days later. .

This hotel is still a work in progress, although it has been open for approximately 1 & 1/2 months. They are working on the kitchen, spa, and other areas, so expect some unwanted noise. Speaking of which, this hotel, set-back from it's fairly quiet road, had the potential to be a really nice, quiet, respite from the normal noise and turmoil of Phnom […] Penh. However, why build it in an area where it is surrounded on three sides by a elementary school? Not a great idea, unless the sounds of hundreds of kids yelling and playing is what you enjoy hearing. One last area of concern is the bar. There should be a happy hour initiated, as well as hazardous pay for guests, for the time being, until the staff learns how to make various drinks. I personally tried a margarita and a bloody mary and neither drink's taste was recognizable. A 3-ounce pour for their house wine, at a cost of $4.00, is not a bargain either. On the plus side are the hotel's design, pool area, rooms, friendly staff, and beautiful landscaping. Lisätietoja
