Stunning location beautiful rooms and very friendly courteous staff, a tad expensive but worth it.

The check in was very off putting ,very surly girl who did nothing to make you feel welcome . Left to wander off and find room and relocate car . A more personal friendly service would go a long way. The room was very good but hot and there was no airconditioning.The Hotel advertises itself as a Spa with treatments but there is a little availabilty […] . On the Monday no availabilty for anything but the hotel was not really busy . On the tuesday we managed to book 2 massages which were good . The nail treatment @£40 seemed good when finished but the following day one of the nails came off. Hobsons bar was excellent due to the friendly staff . One of them a guy from South Africa - he said the Zulu tribe also worked breakfast in Purdeys ,he was a revelation ,you could not get friendlier professional customer service . The breakfasts excellent .Our visit to Wainwrights pub on the Monday evening was excellent ,the lamb superb . The following evening we decided on the Terrace restaurant as it marketed itself on its Josper grill ,the only one outside Spain with a promise of excellent steaks - what a disappointment ,no 300g steaks ,no fillet steaks ,no sirloin steaks . I ended up with a very small rib eye cooked medium ,not medium rare for £20 ! . In fairness the assistant manager recognised that all was not good and took the initiative to not charge us for the meal ,as we said to her the Directors realy had to get things sorted out on this one. . . . The hotel was really nice and the staff were all very warm and friendly, the only thing I would have wanted to know before I made the booking was the hotel was having extensive building works outside.

You cannot beat the location and the room was very good with one notable exception. The bed was not really a double it was two singles with a very noticeable ridge in the middle! Hence it was more like two singles - not good. Facilities great and several places to eat. The pricey restaurant was good that not that good for the money.
