Sanctuary Hotel New York

My husband and I stayed at Sanctuary on a quick overnight getaway to see a show and spend a night in New York. The hotel is half a block from all the action in Times Square but you would never know it - it really is a little Sanctuary from all the hustle and bustle! It has an edgy, hip feel, but not alienating to us aging boomers! Full disclosure: we […] own a hotel so we have a different view than most - sometimes more forgiving, sometimes higher expectations. The rooms are small - the bathroom sink and shower are literally in the guest room to maximize space - but nicely appointed and decorated and more than adequate for a short city stay. Most importantly everything was sparkling clean. Service top notch from the front desk and doorman and the concirge took care of dinner reservations for us - at exactly the kind of place we wanted. Good continental breakfast included, and a 12 noon check out allowed us to lounge around and enjoy the room in the morning. Best of all - a great price! We highly recommend and would go back again. Lovely classy boutique hotel perfectly situated close to 5th Avenue shops, mid-down business area and theatres and entertainment of Times Square. Extremely friendly staff from the guys on the door all the way through. Simple breakfast in the morning, but it's more than enough to kick start the day. Bed was comfy, room a little small, but hey, it's a hotel room, we didn't spend that much time in there. We just got home from our weekend in New York. We weren't sure about the hotel since I booked it on the internet. What a treat. The exterior of the 106 year old building has a great charm. The inside is completely redone into a modern, funky decor. The room was cruise ship small, but well done and well appointed. There was a huge leather headboard. […] The bathroom and shower were tiled in a leather-look porcelain. The shower had a wonderful rain head. The staff was great. The concierges, Freddy and Brandon, were pleasant and helpful. Brandon sat with us at the bar and got to know us and then made our dinner reservations for us. The Siberian bartender was also great, though I neglected to get her name. That may have had something to do with the drinks she was pouring! Breakfast was included in the price of the room. They had a very nice continental breakfast. If I had any complaints, it would be the cleaning crew were awfully loud for 8:00 on a Sunday morning. We may have been in the city that doesn't sleep, but we do. But, we will be back. We spent part of our drive home planning our next trip to NY. Room Tip: Remember that when you come to New York, you don't come to spend all your time in your room. You just come back to the room to change and sleep. Nicely renovated with a great bar/lounge area and super location if you want to be near Times Square and Bryant Park. The rooms are TINY! Fine for one person, but tight squeeze for two.

The hotel staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the decor was pleasing. The bed duvet had a small stain on it, and the bed was uncomfortable. The location was perfect for what we needed and we had a great trip, despite these little things. We would even consider staying there again if we needed to be in that area again.

Sanctuary's staff was awesome - friendly, quick, and always ready to assist. The location is good for people unfamiliar with the city since it's in time square. I like that there's a garage right across the street to make parking easy and safe, but it would be nice if the hotel would validate. Stayed overnight to attend the ballet and found the Sanctuary well located and quite comfortable. The rooms are small as you would expect in a boutique hotel. Breakfast is provided in the bar area and is a simple continental style meal. Parking available at public lot across the street with tn dollar discount.

We were only there one night, but from the limo door open to the limo door closed, it was a fantastic stay. It was perfectly located, beautifully designed, clean, and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Well, where to start...I guess I should start by pointing out the door keeper waiting for my girlfriend and I as we walked down the street looking for the hotel; it's like he knew us for a long time! He greeted us cheerfully and quickly brought us to the front desk for an expedited check-in (They let us check-in early, very nice). I quickly noticed […] that the hotel was in fact really modern looking. It has a dark, romantic feel to it; very different from anything I have seen before. Thumbs up for interior designing. The room was very clean and neat; just like previous reviews had mentioned. I could say that the room size is small/compact; but then again, it is NYC. I would not really recommend the Deluxe Queen room for a business traveler, for there is no enough room to work. The shower was really spacious and practical; not a problem for tall guys (I'm 6'5"). Bed comforter and sheets were nice and crisp, really cozy! The view from the seventh floor was not bad at all; I was expecting just a wall in front of me, but in fact, I was able to see many different buildings and get a glimpse of the city lights. Overall, I had a great experience. The concierge gave us some nice restaurant suggestions, and boy am I glad I took his advice! A few things to point out: TV: Remote control was not accessing the menu/pay-per-view. I swapped remotes at the front desk. Still did not work. I'm not a big TV watcher, so I didn't really mind. WIFI: Did not work 90% of the time using my iPhone. When it did, it was really slow. Again, I didn't really mind because I had 3G and did not have to do any work while in the hotel. Breakfast: The hotel currently does not have a kitchen, so there are limitations to your meal (No eggs, bacon, pancakes and that stuff). Other than that, fresh fruits, awesome OJ, tasty bread, and some other goodies. Mini Bar: Awesome selection (wine, beer, FIJI water, and more). But very expensive, like most mini bars. The Sanctuary is a trendy, upscale hotel just off Times Square - the half-price ticket booth is just under two blocks away. The hotel itself is on a less-busy street (at least for the Times Square area), and a little hard to find, because the entrance is a single thin stoop without any prominent signage. The interior is almost universally dim - I think […] the owner may have an allergy to lighting. But it does create an quiet, low-key club sort of feel. The rooms themselves are on the small side, typical of this sort of hotel - you have maybe 2-4 feet on each side of the bed, and that's it. The bathrooms have showers only (no tubs), but these are roomy. Bathrooms (aside from the toilet, which has its own sliding door) are connected to the remainder of the room by a translucent curtain, so there is not much privacy. What that all means: this is not the hotel for a family vacation, instead ideal for an intimate 2-person getaway or a relaxing solo trip. The included cold breakfast is typical if nothing fancy, and of decent quality - bagels and toast, fresh fruit, a small assortment of pastries, juices, etc. If you are the exercising type, the hotel has contracts with two neighboring fitness clubs, each about a 10-minute walk, for which you will need to ask the front desk for passes. I recommend Club Fitness/LA (in Rockefeller Plaza), which provides you with workout clothes, towels, etc - so no need to bring anything but an iPod and headphones. Lisätietoja

This is the second time staying at the Sanctuary. Both times we've found it to be more than adequate. The location is central, the staff very helpful and accommodating, and the rooms, while small, are clean and well designed.

Hotel is very conveniently situated for Broadway, Times Square, Rockerfeller Centre and Central Park with a wide choice of Metro subway stations. The "half-price" TKTS booth is very close and convenient for theatre tickates. Recommend the purchase of a metro card ($29 gives 7-day unlimited travel). The hotel offers breakfast but this is not included […] in the room-rate. There however are plenty of cafes nearby offering breakfast at reasonable prices It would have been convenient if the hotel offered a wider range of hot drinks - the bar could only manage express. We stayed at the Sanctuary for two nights for a birthday getaway. Small but well-appointed rooms, fantastic location just off of Times Square, courteous service, cool downstairs bar, solid continental breakfast every morning, surprisingly quiet for its location. Overall, a very hip place. I could give this hotel a glowing review if it weren't for the […] broken AC. It didn't work at all, resulting in a very stuffy and overly warm room. It was miserable getting ready and it was difficult to sleep. The problem was reported to the front desk, who promised to send maintenance to repair the problem but never did. Happily, the hotel was a retreat from the sensory overload of TS, with very quiet rooms, and a lovely ambience. This is a boutique style hotel with subdued lighting and euro-disco music playing in the lobby. The chic appearance is fine as long as your room is not too close to the lobby or stairwell. The room was fairly quiet nonetheless though street construction was outrageously loud beginning around 8am on weekdays. That said, the layout was very modern and chic and would have worked well if what was left of the room wasn't dominated by the huge bed. Two tiny windows made the place feel submarine like which would be fine for sleeping if it wasn't for the construction but otherwise doesn't invite hanging out.The staff was friendly and nice and breakfast was served in a modern space at one end of the lobby. Beautiful hotel in a great location just off Times Square. Staff were extremely helpful with advice on the best way to get to places, finding tickets for events etc. Doormen were wonderful at getting taxis - not always an easy task in NYC! Only minor gripes were no information in hotel rooms eg on hotel facilities, room service etc. Decor is very dark […] - all red and black which no doubt is very trendy but I would have preferred some more light. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We arrived at JFK at 5PM and wanted to see a Broadway show. We took a cab to the hotel, they checked us in very quickly, we walked to Times Square, bought discount tickets, walked to the theater, had pizza on the way and still made the 8PM showtime with time to spare. Bring a headlamp. The hallways are so dark that I could barely see the key slot on the door. Once inside our tiny room it was difficult to find where to insert the key card to power up the electricity. The room is very small, even by NYC standards. It is not the kind of place where you sit and read for some downtime. The only seating in the room is […] a bar height type chair. The shower and sink are along one wall of the room; the shower was a good size with a rainshower shower head. There is a curtain the separates the shower and sink from the bed. The bed is about 2 feet from the edge of the shower. As I mentioned; very small. A continental breakfast was included. The food was fine; muffins, bread, bagels, OJ, cereal, yogurt, tea and coffee. The breakfast area has all the charm of a Greyhound bus station; red plastic chairs and white plastic tables. The air conditioning broke the second night, but it was repaired the next day after we told the front desk. There is still some construction going on and there was scaffolding with workmen outside of our windows. There were two windows; one completely frosted over and the other one half frosted, this contributed to the darkness within the room. What a great hotel in a great location. My wife and I had never been to NYC before and really had no idea about where things were. This hotel was a stones throw from Times Sq. and a short walk to Central Park. We took the 'hop on' ' hop off' bus tour all around town, what a great idea. We would go back in a new york minute.

The room is very small even by NY standards. If you are the claustrophobic type, you may want to stay elsewhere. The windows are frosted so you can't see outside, which makes the room feel even smaller. The shower has no door, just a curtain to separate it from the bedroom. We spent 4 days at the Sanctuary Hotel and loved every minute of it. The staff were so friendly, warm and informative and made us feel special every time we entered the lobby. I can't believe how close to Times Square this hotel is. Such close proximity and yet so quiet. It truly is a sanctuary. The room I had was clean and comfortable, no seperate bathroom, however, the clever layout made use of the space and still contained a large waterfall shower cubicle and seperate toilet. The location of this hotel is perfect! Just about a block away from Broadway and close to Times Square. Multiple subway lines nearby, too. I am always a little nervous when booking a hotel, you read the reviews, look at the pictures and you just end up feeling more confused......all becomes very clear when you arrive at the Sactuary Hotel. On arrival the taxi door was opened and we were welcomed to the hotel, check in was simple and just took a few minutes, whilst being introduced to […] the concierge and desk staff. The reviews had said the rooms where small, it wasn't the biggest room I have stayed in, but it wasn't small and was in superb condition, every little detail was covered including the widest range of snacks and drinks! It was also extremely clean and the pictures on their website actually represent what you get when you arrive! The hotel still has areas to open, including the restaurant but the bar area is great and they have a breakfast area where they serve complimentary coffees, tea, pastries etc. If you are looking for a really safe pair of hands to put your holiday to New York in, use the Sanctuary Hotel, they cannot do enough to help, it is very cool, close enough to Times Sq to access but not so close that you can hear it! I enjoyed my stay but note it was only for an overnight. The hotel staff were kind, pleasant, and helpful. The hotel itself is rather dark because it uses either LED or neon lights for accent lighting in the public areas. The room I booked with a king-size bed was originally intended for two, but I was the only one in the room for my stay. Had that […] not been the case, it would have proven rather cramped. My biggest complaint is that the air conditioning blew directly onto the head of the bed. There was no escape from it except to turn off the AC which made the room uncomfortable. Also no ice machines. Front desk had to send it up. Otherwise, the room met all of my needs and expectations. We stayed at the sanctuary for it's location and competitive rates. We where blown away by just how warm and welcoming the staff are. We had stayed at two other locations on our honeymoon and not one of them made us fill as welcomed as what the sanctuary did. All staff members where genuinely interested in our day and what we where up too. The concierge […] lady was amazing and the door men so helpful. We where also surprised buy the inclusions that we had not gotten from our other hotels, these where breakfast and wifi Internet access. 11/10 just brilliant already have recommended this hotel to the in-laws.
