Halcyon House - Edinburgh

Very close to Waverley Station. The staff were extremely helpful, accommodating and nice. Room was cozy and breakfast plentiful.

Don't always trust online bookings. The hotel mentioned was double booked. the owner was excellent in helping us find another hotel. The place looked good and the location in Edinburgh is great.

great location if you are going to playhouse. 10 mins walk to princess street. the hotel is nice and clean.we arrived early and our room was not ready so we just left our lugguage in dining room when we came back it was in our room which was lovely and cosy.had a great breakfast in the morning

What a lovely little guest house! Really convenient location for they city centre and especially the theatre just around the corner. Nice traditional 4 storey house on quiet cobbled road. Not great if you have walking difficulties though as its on a bit of a slope. Room was fine, fairly basic in a way, but for a short stay when you are out most of the […] time, it was perfectly adequate, with nice lounge area with TV ( no TV in the bedroom though if that's important to you) and coffee all day. My only initial concern was that the room was quite cold. I know it was December, so shouldn't complain, but once we put the portable radiator on it soon warmed up and in fact was too warm in the middle of the night, as we left it on! Best bit was undoubtedly the breakfast. Fantastic! Nice choice, really tasty and great attention to detail with everything you could want on the table! I loved my time at the Halcyon house in Edinburgh. My room was small but comfortable and the staff were extremely friendly. Breakfast is huge and hearty in a very nice dining room - perfect to start your day. The location of the hotel was amazing - I could see the monuments of Calton Hill from my window. I will stay here again the next time I'm in town, […] and definitely recommend it to others. **Note - there are a lot of stairs to climb if you are on one of the top floors of this narrow and tall building. Friendly staff, clean guest house, good location. The only down side was my room was on the top floor and there is no lift, so before booking if the stairs are a problem I would state you require a room on a lower floor. Being on the top floor the hot water takes a long time to come thru the shower etc, thats to be taken into consideration.

Loved this hotel. Great price and wonderful friendly staff. Breakfast was included and quite nice. Would recommend to anyone not wanting to spend their whole paycheck on an expensive b and b. This was the best value I have ever found in a hotel.

Conveniently located, comfortable, with a big complementary breakfast to set you up for a day exploring Edinburgh.

We had a lovely stay at The Ben Doran. It was very very clean and the breakfast was superb. We had a warm welcolm and a very comfortable stay. If we returned to Edinburgh we will definatelty stay there again.

hotel is central, 10-15 walking to trainstation, 20 min to walking to castle. very nice staff, very good breakfast. shared bathroom, but very clean. I recommand this place and will stay there again because of the good price, nice staff and location.

Located on a quiet terrace an easy 10min walk from Princess Street. Imposing building, a little dated and worn on the inside but clean. Great location. Just off Princes St and only took us 10 minutes to walk from Waverley Station. Lovely friendly staff. Very clean room and bathroom. A typical old Edinburgh hotel with high ceilings and spacious room. The room was a double but in addition to the double bed, there were also two single beds. was fine - It's a 2 star guest house, and that's what you get. lot of noise from the main road in the morning, but clean sheets, clean room - however, the shower plug looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. lovely garden bar. didn't eat here but the food looked good.

Staff went beyond expectations to make my short stay very comfortable & enjoyable. I would highly recommend this hotel for its location, friendly staff / owners and price.

Great location for Edinburgh festival/ Tattoo which was the purpose for our visit. Efficient and welcoming service but a very anachronistic hotel from the 70s right down to the carpets and breakfast (though this is not necessarily a bad thing at all)!

Staff were very friendly and hefpful, nice cooked breakfast, tidy and clean rooms and dinning area. Easy to find and walk to town.

I had a single room for one night only and found the room to be clean and comfortable. There was a shared bathroom and toilet which I wasn't concerned about as it was a short stay.I didn't have breakfast as I had an early train but it would have been nice to have been given something the night before seeing breakfast was in the price. The Halcyon is an easy walk from Waverley without luggage. Otherwise a short taxi ride. The proprietors were very friendly and helpful. The room was spotless and the breakfast excellent. I would stay there again.

I had a pleasant 1 night stay in the Halcyon hotel, the room was clean and comfortable, I would go for ensuite when booking (nominal charge). Ten minute walk from the centre and all attractions, I enjoyed a hearty english breakfast served by very curtious staff who could not have been more helpful or polite.

Our room was a little narrow and I didn't realise that it wasnt en-suite. Other than that, great owners and staff, excellent breakfast and a fine location.

I booked for 3 nights. Many hotels couldn't offer all three so I feared having to stay at separate places. However this site came up trumps with good value as the hotel chains are usually way over my budget. Halcyon is in an old terrace (solid with very high ceilings!) just 10 mins from Waverley station. The road is set well back from the adjoining […] main road (in fact there is a large area of grass with mature trees in front so I can't think any rooms would suffer noise, unlike hotels on Princes Street). My single room was at the rear with view of charming, steep garden on the side of Calton Hill so there was plenty of birdsong though I didn't hear the dawn chorus (if it performed). Everything was is good order with a modern sink and mirror light (unlike other places seem to think a dodgy switch or broken bulb is acceptable). I had a kettle with tea/coffee. My bathroom was next door and again clean, tidy and fairly up to date. I was surprised there was no TV however there is a lounge on the first floor (I didn't explore any higher up) with TV and some sofas/chairs which was useful to catch up with news, recent elections and I would guess popular in spell of bad weather as there is a kettle with tea/coffee here too. The highlight was breakfast - loads of choice and generous portions. Juice, cereals, porridge(!), full cooked breakfast, fish (I had haddock one day but could have been kippers), toast and very large pots of tea or coffee. The owners are very hands-on and show you to your table (window option is available) and take your orders then serve. They can also provide suggestions for the day if you're stuck for things to do and there is a large range of tourist information which was all current. The owners are also welcoming and are keen that attention to detail is important. (Some people may find it a bit fussy but I find that better than just being handed a key and forgotten about.) The price performance ratio is very good. Staff was very nice and breakfast great. The room was small and the toilet and shower outside the room, but hey: For that price, there is nothing to complain about.

3 rooms shared a toilet on the 1st floor and my first morning started with a 40minute wait to get in for a pee and a shower!!! Breakfast is very controlled and all served so don't be in a hurry! Over all this stay was a good experience. There was some work being done in the lower tier rooms so I was up graded to a double bed. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was hearty- the coffee was especially excellent. One small problem was that I had difficultly turning on my shower to get washed. The shower head was also low - I am a medium […] sized male at 5 foot 10 inches - but still I had to stoop to get under it. The owner was very welcoming, that alone made the stay enjoyable. The building is very grand and rooms very clean. It's close to the city centre and all sites, nice walk up Calton hill possible., If I'm back in Edinburgh, I'll stay here again

This was a charming old style hotel in a great part of town close to all the main attractions. My only gripe was that as I was on my own I got a very small room on the ground floor. The room was quite noisy with doors banging and guests coming and going. On the plus it had a lovely view of the garden and lovely light. I also think a single bed is a […] no-no in this day. Charmigt hotell i "Pang-i-bygget-anda".

Mi estancia fue muy positiva con muy buena atención por parte de los responsables del hotel; está ubicado en un lugar que permite llegar caminado a los principales sitios en 15 a 30 minutos. El desayuno muy bien servido. Mi habitación estaba correcta con el baño en perfectas condiciones y muy limpio; la calefacción muy buena (durante mi estancia el […] tiempo era muy frío); No hay ascensor (es un hotel de 3 pisos) y está en una calle en subida (tomar en cuenta en caso de personas mayores o con dificultades para caminar); El único inconveniente real fue que no había recepción de internet en la habitación y en el resto del hotel la señal era baja.
