Clarion Grandhotel Zlaty Lev - Liberec

Our deal was room only, which suited us as we wanted a base and were making a number of early starts. The hotel is very convenient to all facilities, including city transport and shops. Most places of interest in Liberec were either within a few minutes walk, or could be reached on the excellent tram line between Lidovy Sady (Zoo, Botanic Gardens) and […] Horni Hanychov at the foor of Jested Mountain. The staff were generally friendly and efficient. We did have breakfast on a number of mornings and were very satisfied with it, and also used the restaurant twice for excellent evening meals. While the breakfasts were very expensive by local standards the restaurant meals were very reasonably priced considering the surroundings, and the excellent service provided. We would certainly recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Liberec, and it more than met our expectations and our requirements . This was a little hard to find if you are not familiar with the area, but it is centrally located to the old town and right next to the castle!! We were pleased with our room and the beds, as well as the breakfast. Recption and all staff very helpful. This is a very comfortable hotel, good breakfasts. A wonderful architectural gem from bygone era.The pictures on it's website do not do it justice. It is very quiet and adjacent to lovely park.

Beliggenhed perfekt tæt på alt og alligevel roligt med udsigt til borgen. Restaurant til 5 stjerner. Morgenmad ikke inkluderet og MEGET dyrt. Ikke air-condition. Billeje umuligt ved ankomst. Lykkedes alligevel senere takket være en meget ihærdig receptionist. Minibar ikke rengjort. Generelt føler jeg mig snydt med en lav pris som ikke holder og slet […] ikke lever op til 4 stjerner. Find another hotel. We paid a high price for our rooms (compared to the prices in the country in general) and even then got very small rooms. Employees that should help us parking and loading/unloadning our car would rather stand watching or talking to colleagues than actually do their job - a growing annoyance to us as the week went by. On top of […] that the "offer" we got with hotels.com did not include breakfast or parking - an additional 25% on top of the price we paid for the rooms. For comparison we parked in prague (and other places) and ate lunch and dinner 4 persons at fine restaurants for less than the price of the breakfast at the hotel in the week we were there. At first glance on the pictures the hotel and rooms looked fine but when arriving we experienced a hotel that was not well kept. Broken windows several places, jamming doors, missing hooks for towels in the bathroom, very low quality showering niche (better fitting in a kitchen of a 1-room flat for a student), unfinished carpet endings on the floor, bulky carpets (my son called them waves) in the rooms and hallways, and many other details that you see when you start looing for them. I visited the spa area only the first night - after a good walk in the mountains. The spa smelled so badly from excessive use of clorine that I couldn't stand being in the room (other guest had the same opinion). In general I'm very disappointed of the hotel standard. Had the hotel been priced half and included breakfast and parking then I could have accepted that standard. But clearly the hotel signals something that it is not.
