"Great View"
The Barclay was full to capacity during our stay and other then a small problem w the elevator (user error) our stay was wonderful.

Hotel was very clean, staff was friendly and nice. Beautiful view of the ocean. Furniture a little outdated but that was not an issue at all. Room was large, pool was awesome, hot tub was great with a great view of the ocean. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

"On the beach"
The hotel was on the beach which was great, but the hotel wasn't our first choice. The elevator doors closed so quickly we almost got caught a few times and the "gym" consisted of 1 treadmill, 1 bike and 1 elliptical. And for a hotel overlooking the ocean the windows were filthy in the workout room and our hotel room.

"Inexpensive Oceanfront"
We were looking for an inexpensive place to stay at the beach. The hotel is old but has been nicely renovated, The breakfast had a good selection for a free continental breakfast (yogert, hard boiled eggs, bagels, cereal, pastries & donuts) The location is great!! The hot tub was hot but not bubbling-we were told it works sometimes-not the answer we […] expected when we reported it. Also housekeeping was inconsistant- great 1 day & TERRIBLE on another day (came 3-4PM,talked on her cell phone while there & only changed out the towels-did not make bed!). "Barclay Towers - what a gem!"
We loved Barclay towers and would definitely go back. The staff were polite and helpful. Location was wonderful. The rooms are clean; they are dated, but it is an old establishment. For the price, you can't expect travertine floors! -- but it was clean, neat and very roomy. Breakfast was ample--hard boiled eggs, four cereals, danish, muffins, rolls […] bagels, instant hot cereal, yogurts, apples and oranges. . .we all found something to eat! I LOVE the patio off the dining area! It's a wonderful place to eat outside and people watch. We even brought subs and pizza back there at night and ate our dinner while enjoying the ocean breezes. The pool and hot tub are VERY nice for such an older building! I love that the hot tub overlooks the boardwalk. The mattresses on the roll away and the convertible couch were terrible. . .but that's not uncommon on those types of beds. That is our only complaint. We have not been to Virginia Beach for ten years and we worried that it might have gotten old and dirty. But our worries were quickly dispelled. . .buildings are older, of course, but the place is still kept immaculate and it was such a pleasant, safe place to be! There is so much to do in the nearby area too -- roller blade/bike and group bike rentals, sea kayaking, shopping, great restaurants--if you like pub food, try the Lighthouse, just a few doors down on the boardwalk. . .great "beachy" place to eat! "Superb Stay"
The hotel stay met above expectations, though there were a few exceptions. The hotel room had all the menu's of all hotel available in area doing/providing room service or delivery options, but the menu's were quite old so we saw a price difference when the total summed up. The breakfast was ok and just about average with any hotels compared with Comfort […] Inn or Econo Lodge. The staff was very friendly and provided excellent customer service whether it many locating the pool or accessing the beach or getting extra keys to the room. In all satisfied for what I paid for. "The room could have been better"
The cleanliness of the room was not that great. The carpet and bathroom floors still had dirt on it. It really looked like someone just wiped over everything quickly without really cleaning it. The room was not cleaned on the second day. We needed more towels, toilet paper, etc. We called housekeeping several times and the front desk but no one answered. […] We went down to the front desk and requested the items. They sent someone to the room about 15 minutes later with the supplies. The air conditioner was very, very loud. We did not get a good night sleep the first night. The second night, it was cool enough outside so we didnt cut the a/c on. "wonderful"
My husband, myself, my 3year old daughter and my 17 year old niece staid here for 2 nights in March. It was still chilly out so the indoor pool and hot tub were a must. The pool area was very warm the water felt great and the hot tube was wonderful. The hotel wasn't loud and there wasn't that stale smell of cigarettes because it was no smoking all the […] way. "One Tower for Barclay in VA Beach"
It was OK for Va Beach standards. Nothing to cheer about. Best grades to cleanlyness and 100% no smoking status in the whole building! Room was less than soundproof. First person up in the morning gets everyone up! Right on the beach and boardwalk. Close to PAAC and Sports Complex.

I thought the hotel was great. The rooms were clean, although did not care for the breakfast. I think it should have had more to it.
We liked the location and size of the sweet. But, it would have been good not to have to breathe the newly painted bathroom while we were trying to sleep. Also, you need to switch the bedroom and living room. It was like sleeping in the hallway with all the noise of people coming in late.
"Big Black Bugs"
Our room was noisy, old, and had several big black bugs in the living room and kitchen area. I complained to the front desk and someone came to spray. The vending machines didn't work on a number of floors. I was fortunate to only spend one night. Won't stay at this hotel again.

"good stay"
Lobby is beautiful!!! U can tell it is old and remodeled. Could have spent the money on some newer sheets and blankets.. and u can't smoke on balconyin your room. But great price..
"Very nice and friendly"
We actually had to change hotels during our stay and picked this one because of the other reviews we had read and its all nonsmoking. We will stay here again. Great pool and hot tub. Clean Rooms. We did leave an article in the room and had to go thru a few loops to get it back, but we did recover it. Staff extremely nice and helpful.

"non smoking only"
not a hotel to recommend for smoking people. no place to smoke. very aggravating. not even allowed on balcony. other than that, it was a very nice winter hotel. beds were cummfey.

"Barclay Towers Resort in Va Beach"
Our stay at Barclay Towers Resort was very comfortable. The amenities were well kept. Almost all of the staff was friendly. The view from our room was beautiful and the location was very convenient whether you were heading south or north of the resort strip.
Revisited Barclay Towers in Virginia Beach again, just as satisfied as the first time, actually more so. Very quiet though the hotel was completely booked for the New Year. Completely satisfied!! "New Years visit to VA Beach"
Our start to finish experience at the Barclay Towers Resort Hotel was excellent. However, we were taught a lesson about leaving valuables in your vehicle overnight. Our vehicle was broken into and a GPS unit, Ipods, and various chargers were liberated from us. The moral of the story: If you want to keep it, take it with you to the room.

"Barclay Towers Resort Hotels - Best Honeymoon area"
I was trying to find someplace last minute for my husband and I and when it got close to our wedding date it was pretty hopeless, but then I found this hotel and the both of us enjoyed the thought of the amenities. Even if I had seen a few reviews that made me skittish elsewhere, I still went with it, and boy was it worth it: we ended up calling it […] our apartment by the end of our honeymoon, and were talking about budgeting for our whole family to head over for a family trip. I plan on surprising my parents with a small weekend trip for their anniversary. I will admit, the only thing we had trouble with was the driving to get there, because it is right off Atlantic and it was the opening night of the Holiday lights. If you're heading there during a busy time, I suggest getting onto Atlantic Avenue 3 streets up and slowly maneuver your way over to the hotel, instead of coming straight down the road to get to the hotel directly. The only other portion was the wireless internet was having trouble on our last full day of stay, but thankfully they were able to get it fixed by the next day. Other then that, the pool is heated, the rooms come with amazing comfort to make it feel like home, and the kitchen is fully equipped with everything we needed, even soap for our dishes! The balcony was amazing, we were lucky to have the 5th floor, and we were so happy to know there was guest laundry. Sadly we never got to use it so I cannot guarantee a review on that, but we were just happy that the ice machine and elevator which we were near were quiet from the room. The only time we heard people was when someone was checking out. It was a quiet and lovely stay, and we both enjoyed it tremendously and hope to go again sometime once the new year rolls around. The hotel was located off the boardwalk, which is what I wanted. The hotel staff was very pleasant and responded to my concerns immediately. The room was comfortable and just as advertised, with an ocean front facing balcony.

the room look out dated and also had a old smells to it.. we stayed in this hotel for two day black friday to sunday.. no one ever came to clean the room. also the bath tub barely drained water so there was a ring in the tub from friday till we checked out.. microwave was broken and the stove was a little out dated as well.. we like to do the long weekend […] to VB. i would never ever stay at this hotel again and would never recomend this "motel" to anyone.. The Barclay Towers was great! The hotel is a little old compared to others on Virginia Beach; however, you don't notice the age compared to the quality of the room.
