It was not worth the money. Very loud especially during the early morning hours. The only positive thing I can comment on is the location.

Old world appeal. Wine and cheese late afternoon and Sherry in the evening. Delightful charm. Plan to return soon.

Location is perfect for walking around downtown Charleston. Also loved the novelty of the sherry nightcap and wine/cheese meet and great. However, if you are looking for a loud, party hotel, this is not for you.

Loved the hotel, but our room had a very strong bad odor which was not pleasant. we thought maybe new renevation.

Having lived in Charleston for a number of years, I have just stayed at the Anchorage Inn for the first time. It is a convenient, interesting place which also provides super-convenient parking in the City Garage just out the back door. I'll definitely be back!

Very nice place, loved the wine and cheese reception, great way to meet people. Breakfast was very good. Staff very friendly too!!

The Anchorage Inn is a beautiful hotel and I'd recommend it to anyone. The location is ideal and we were so close to everything we kept the car parked in the nearby parking garage and walked everywhere. The staff was friendly and accommodating and the little extras with the turn down service, continental breakfast, Sherry in the evenings and wine and […] cheese in the afternoons make the stay even more enjoyable. I couldn't have asked for a more special stay. Our room was beautiful and the bathroom was lovely. The Anchorage Inn is the perfect place for a romantic getaway. We can't wait to go back! Great location. The room could use a facelift - cracked tiles in the bathroom, the carpet on the steps needed vacuuming. The breakfast was decent, better than most continental breakfasts. The staff was pleasant. Overall a good place to stay - can walk to lots of great restaurants, the market, etc.

situated downtown you can walk to many different eating spots and shops,just park your car and forget it.delightful breakfast in the morning you cant go wrong

We really enjoyed our stay, room was very nice, comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful. The wine social was an excellent place to meet people and much appreicated. Will stay here again in the future for sure1

Staff didn't seem to want to go out of their way to make us feel welcomed- We were there 5 days. We think bad supervision is at fault. Indifferent service was the norm.

We stayed for 5 nights, but never felt very welcomed. Some staff OK but majority indifferent. We think poor management is the cause. For the price per night it was not a good value

Inn has really gone downhill since our last visit several years ago. I don't remember it's being so DARK, especially inside rooms. We went to the "wine and cheese freebie, but they were filled and there was nowhere to sit. Would never recommend this hotel!

The Anchorage Inn of Chareston was an unexpected delight. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful. We were arriving from a cruise and found it within walking distance of the ship. Breakfast, wine and cheese, and sherry before bed were available. The atmosphere plus the location of the inn were added bonuses. My boyfriend and I recently stayed at the Anchorage Inn in downtown Charleston. We greatly enjoyed the hotel and the amenities provided. The complimentary breakfast hit the spot and was just the right thing to start our day, and we had a fantastic time partaking in sherry nightcaps while playing board games in the library. We missed out on the afternoon […] wine and cheese simply because we were having too much fun exploring. Our room did not have any windows, but we spent a great deal of time outdoors exploring downtown, the Battery, Angel Oak, Ft. Sumter, Sullivans Island, Isle of Palms, Mt. Pleasant, and Awendaw. Room could have been cleaner. It was very damp with mold on ceiling. rooms had no window!

Anhorage Hotel is in best location in historic downtown Charleston. It is within walking distance of all the attractions. There is parking behind in multi storey which was $12 a day. We noticed some rooms did not have windows (!) but we were one of the lucky ones so overall we rate this hotel for price and location.

Loved the location in heart of historic Charleston, rooms had great character. Staff was very helpful and made great recommendations for us as first time visitors.

The hotel location was just perfect for walking everywhere we wanted to go in the downtown, historic area. The room was very comfortable, clean, and attractive. The staff couldn't have been more accomodating. We will stay there again when visiting Charleston.

We stayed in a cozy little room that was very clean, but unfortunately it was right next to the front desk on the lower level and we could hear every single conversation in the lobby. The only problem I found was the water stains in my room's ceiling and a bit of a musty smell. My sister's room next door did not have stains. Otherwise, all was perfect. Very nice people work there and the Library was a good place to meet other guests for Sherry and cheese and wine and breakfast.....which all came free with the hotel.

I thought I booked Vendue Inn when I placed the order on Hotels.com. Unfortunately the day of our departure I called Vendue Inn to let them know that we will be arriving late and found out that I actually booked Anchorage Inn (directly across the street from the Vendue). It was 100% my fault and a mistake that I will never make again. Upon arrival […] to Anchorage (around 10pm) it was dark and empty inside. We really thought that we were the only ones staying there. There is a desk that sits by the stairs where you check in. The hotel was only lit by small candle-like lamps on the side of the walls making it seem very creepy inside. The first room that we were given did not have any windows at all. However, after reading the reviews on the hotel (after finding out my booking mistake) I knew to ask for a different room. The hotel staff was kind enough to reassign us to a room that did have a window. The bed quality is the same as at a Holliday Inn; there were just two pillows and they were very flat; the sheets and blanket were very cheap. The breakfast was worse than at a LaQuinta. At least at LaQuinta you can make your own hot waffles. At the Anchorage Inn you were given cheap pastries, cold waffle corners, cheap refrigerated bagels, sausage gravy that didn't have any sausage in it, three types of cereal, canned fruit salad and yogurt. Now, I've read the hotel management address other reviewers' criticism of breakfast saying "most people rave about our breakfast". I'm not sure who would "rave" about this breakfast unless you are not used to ever having breakfast at a hotel. Try going across the street to the Vendue Inn for their breakfast. Now that's first class breakfast! The chef makes it for you, with choices of omelets and belgian waffles, and other amazing choices. Plus you have staff that serves it for you. The inn is older, which is to be expected given its location, which was excellent for visiting the historic district. The ammenities were lovely and the staff quite helpful. Would recommend staying here. Only downside was no window in our room and it was hard to regulate the temp in the room.

Great location and very cool and inviting for hot August days--enjoyed wine reception and breakfast.

Let me just say, after reading some of the reviews on hotels.com I was worried about staying at Anchorage Inn. We were pleasantly surprised and would go back, although with a couple of minor adjustments. As a preface: I have stayed in roach motels all the way up to 4-star resorts and everything else in between. I'm not really picky, but do expect cleanliness […] and a few other standards at most hotels. THE STAFF: They were OVERWHELMINGLY nice and eager to help. About anything, anytime. I was quite impressed. No one was aloof or unfriendly or unwilling to help. Whoever wrote reviews about that in other postings - I can only *hope* you were being truthful... because we encountered the exact opposite. PROPERTY: This is an INN. Not a hotel. It's in a really old house-like building. It is a bit dark inside, and there is an odd smell eminating from the rear of the inn that after a couple of days becomes a little gross but the amount of time spent back there (for us) was so minimal - it wasn't an issue or dealbreaker. Yes - the windows face inward toward the lobby. There are two levels. We stayed upstairs in room 10. It was extremely quiet inside the entire time. THE ROOM: As mentioned, we stayed in room 10. Very small. But, to us, that's ok. We aren't planning on doing jumping jacks or having a band perform in the room. It was ample enough for us. Big flat screen LCD. Nice bathrooms - appeared to be remodeled. Granite countertop with nice flooring. I was impressed with the offerings of Bath & Body Works soaps and creams. Most places offer some el'cheapo, never-heard-of, gonna-dry-your-skin, stuff. When we got settled I removed my shoes. The carpet was sticky. It took me two days to realize why. The vents in the room didn't work .. so there was 0 ventilation for all of the shower's condensation against the room's cold a/c (which, btw, the a/c ROCKS! so cold!). i visited Charleston with my daughter who will be going to College of Charleston. I loved the location of this hotel and found the room to be OK for me. I reserved 2 rooms, the other for my daughter. She told me she had brown water coming out of her shower one day. I did not see brown water in the shower, but the water pressure was pitiful. Pity since […] the shower was really nice and I was looking forward to a good shower. There's a lot of options in the area - that's the reason I can't say I'd recommend this one. The staff was very helpful in making recommendations and inquiries about things we wanted to do or see. The room was quite nice and the fact that it did not have a window facing outside was a plus for us on a street with a lot of activity.

Comfortable inn with great amenities. Very close to lots of good restaurants and sightseeing. Staff is helpful. Nicely appointed rooms with lovely gathering places as well.

Initially, The Hotel was great...but after site seeing, dinner and drinks, I went to bed in a quite comfortable room. Until I heard the deadbolt unlock at 5 AM, then the door lock sounded like it was being forced to open. Apparently, my soon to be ex-wife, drove to the hotel from Georgia to see if i was with anyone and the Night Clerk was gonna let […] her in my room without verification or notification...after the stress, I never even stayed the entire night and left at 5:30 AM to go home. We loved our stay at The Anchorage Inn. Its the perfect location within walking distance of everything. Plus it is beautiful and clean and historical like the rest of the city. Would definitely stay there again!

A charming small hotel 1/2 block from Cooper River pier with views of Fort Sumter--neat during the 150th Civil War anniversary. Very helpful staff. Adequate, help-yourself, breakfast . We would have preferred a "prepared to order" type. We could have used a step stool, block and tackle, crane, to get into the high, four poster bed--but our struggles […] added to the quaintness.
