Overall pluses: the location was extremely convenient, staff were very good, free parking and nice breakfast (not the ordinary cheap frozen bagels, but actual pastries from a bakery, etc). The only minus: while clean on the surface, our room smelled fairly bad. We could tell it used to be a smoking room, and has never been fully deodorized. It was great. The only thing missing is a pool at the hotel... I recommended it to anyone who need to be close to New York and doesn't want to spend to much.

You get a solid night's stay here, in a very convenient location. No frills, but solid. And for like a third of the money of the hotels down the street.

Our stay was good. Everything was as expected and very affordable was at the mouth of the Holland Tunnel. Perfect for getting in the City easy.

I have only praises for the staff (especially front desk) of this hotel. They let us check-in hours before check-in time. We arrived at 7am, and checkin time is not until 2pm. They informed us that we could eat free breakfast, use their (small) lobby, restroom and park in their lot if we want to go to the city. Then they worked hard to get our room […] ready and after only 10 mins, we were able to check-in! They were also very helpful with directions to the train station, The PATH train station is about 15 mins walk and will take you directly to WTC or 33rd street in NYC. Very convenient. The hotel was perfect for us, we drove up from NC and chose the Holland Hotel because it was within 10 to 15 min walk to the path (needed to be in NYC a lot) and right next to the Holland Tunnel!! It took seconds to drive into manhattan!! Hotel was clean, comfortable and the staff was amazing!! Will defiantly stay here again!!

Reception staff was friendly and helpful, allowing us to check in early. Room was clean but slightly dated. Short walk to the PATH in a well lit area. Had a nice selection of fresh breakfast pastries, fruit, etc. Great place to stay if visitng Manhattan on a limited budget.

We arrived to a loud obnoxious customer. The staff tried to settle her. However we had an easy check in. Continental breakfast was good. It was good, the only thing I think could be improved would be the lobby area. It is very small, That is where they do the breakfast and it gets very crowded, too hard to move around. Think they need to find another space for breakfast.

To start I appreciated the free parking. It was very well lit and close to the lobby entrance. Check in was easy and fast. As I walked down the hall to my room I noticed how everything was clean and well maintained. My room was nicely furnished, comfortable, very clean and quiet. The free breakfast was good. The only merit is the location of the hotel. It is located just other side of a underground tunnel conneting Jersey City and Mahattan. However, it is not deserve to recommendation. During the night, traffic noise continued and the lights of cars passed the curtain of the window. The breakfast is served from 6:30. But the seving place is front of the reservation desk. It is so small space that only four persons could stand together. I seemed to be a way of reducing cost for the management. If you just spend a night alone, it can be a good place. This is a great hotel for travelers that want quick access to NYC without the NYC prices. Our stay was for two nights. The hotel was very clean and tidy, and the staff was courteous & professional yet not intrusive. Check-in and check-out were a breeze. The only reason I am giving this an "OK" rating is because the bedding is not 100% cotton and therefore not comfortable. Otherwose, it is clean and comfortable, without the frills,which is reflected in the price. Handy location.

There are many good things about this hotel. First, the location. It is SO close to NYC without paying the NYC price. There's the Newport Center Mall less than 5 minutes walking distance and a fun place to get food when you're back at your hotel or do some mall shopping. The Path train to NYC is just as close and the hotel staff is very helpful about […] directing you. Just remember on your way back to the hotel from NYC, take the Journal Square train-there are two Path trains from NYC and no one told us which to take (Hoboken or Journal Square). You want Journal Square & then get off at Newport Mall. The hotel was extremely clean upon check in. They let us check in hours early, too. It's an older hotel but in excellent shape, no chipped furniture or peeling paint, carpet like new, great beds, quiet, good working microwave and mini fridge, nice water pressure.... The only cons: some people complained in reviews about the tunnel noise. We slept with the window open (yes even in January we found the hotel warm) and the noise never bothered us, but we are city lovers. The only other con...our room was wonderfully cleaned after the first day but the second, we were completely skipped for no reason...took awhile to get fresh towels brought up to us and our trash needed emptying after that. That's the only reason for a lower 'quality of staff & service' rating. Again, this was a wonderful choice for our family and we will definitely stay again! Lisätietoja

We stayed for 3 nights and found the hotel to be a perfect base for a trip to NYC, at a fraction of NYC prices. Also, my partner is a smoker so it was great to find an affordable smoking room. The hotel decor might be somewhat dated but it was certainly clean, and having a refrigerator and microwave in the room was great. The breakfast is limited but […] again, it's great to have it provided at all. The staff without exception are extremely friendly and helpful. On our first night we were directed to a very nice neighbourhood bar called Hamilton's, only a short walk away to a lovely place where we had a great meal (& half price beers on Thursday nights!). On our last night we tred Dorian's, between the PATH station and the hotel, and enjoyed that very much as well. In short, I would definitely recommend the Holland Hotel as a base for visiting NYC on the basis of price, convenience and easy access by public transport. Thanks for another great find, hotels.com! It is a good hotel with good breakfast. It is near a big mall with court food, clothes store and cinema. It has train to NYC only 10 min ride and it cost 2.25 dolars and it is all night (PATH train). Is all what you need to visit NYC at a good price. Service is OK.

My boyfriend and I recently stayed here while visiting New York. The city was too expensive, and knowing we weren't going to spend much time in the actual hotel, I found the cheapest thing in Jersey City. Don't be fooled, this place was awesome. The staff was very nice, the hallways smelled like a garden meadow, and the room had everything we needed- […] big bed, tv, big bathroom, fridge, and microwave. Our room overlooked the Holland Tunnel entrance which we were more amused about than anything. Durin the day the traffic going in was fine, but it did get a bit noisy when we were going to bed. We were so tired from walking around NY all day that it didn't bother us. With free wifi and parking right at the hotel, the price compared to other cheaper places was worth it. Since we didn't stay at a place with a NY skyline view, we just drove a couple miles to the pier and took pictures. Also, it's only a couple blocks to the path station which was very convenient. Whenever we visit New York, we like to stay in Jersey City near the PATH station. The Holland Hotel is a 10 minute walk to the station, so we can get to Manhattan in a few minutes. The staff is friendly and the breakfast selection is pretty good. Hotel is located a few blocks away from Path Station in Jersey City and it's also right next to the Holland tunnel in case you want to drive in to the city.

Great front desk service and the location makes it really convenient for keeping your car out of Manhattan while you cruise around on the MTA / walkabout. The only thing I would recommend is picking the side of the hotel that faces away from the Holland Tunnel traffic. When I made these reservations I was afraid it would turn out to be a run down and tired out "motor lodge" from the 60's. It had that old design on the outside. I was really surprised how many practical ways they have improved their rooms with all the things you would expect from a high end hotel. Amazing comforter, bed, pillows. Windows that open safely, […] clean, calm and modern decor, no crazy patterns from earlier decades. Great shower head and hot water. Super nice and helpful staff. Well organized and fresh coffee and food. Very, very clean. They should be very proud of themselves. They obviously take a lot of pride in doing the best possible job for their customers and making sure their customers are comfortable. They invest in our comfort. Yay for them!! How refreshing. I've stayed in plenty of high end places and I can tell the owner/managers of this place have been studying those places and bringing that extra comfort down to an affordable and accessible level. I booked a smoke-free room. The smell of smoke was unblievable! I was in N.J. for a family funeral, so I was forced to stay the night due to lack of availability of hotel rooms in the area.
