"Good surroundings but don't expect too much"
Paying such a low price i didn't expect much for the room. And I was right. The Albany actually has two different types of rooms which are old and refurbished. We got an old room. The room was small. It was not really dirty but mildews and broken tiles in the toilet didn't make us feel comfortable when having bath. It was dirty if you are judging it […] with a hotel standard. Some stains are found on the bed sheets. The stay wasn't really pleasant. Comparing to other hotels in Melbourne city, this one is far away from the downtown. The heart of the CBD is small that if you are living in the downtown, you don't even have to get on the tram to different spots in the city. But as South Yarra is a residential area, you have to take a 10 min tram to the city from Albany. The good thing that the Albany has is that the surroundings are quiet and safe. It also gets a beautiful park nearby. And the fabulous Royal Botanic Garden is just a few min walk from the hotel. 7-eleven, subway, mcdonald's are easily found near the hotel. Lisätietoja
"Close to trams"
Quite enjoyable. Limited car parking, but was able to park in the hotel. Bathroom needed some repair but was clean.

My husband and I have a pet dog. This was why we chose this hotel. Then we found except this reason this hotel is a very good place to stay.

We had a 2 nite stay. Our initial room was soooo old, and dirty (marks and stains on bedding), the bathroom door is see-thru (not great when u are sharing with other people), you can hear EVERYTHING that is going on in the room next door, air con wasnt working and there was the TINIEST window - that really didnt let any air in. We were told at check […] in that we had been upgraded - I'd hate to see what we were staying in before the upgrade !!!!! When one of us complained we were moved to a refurbished room - this wasnt too bad! "Reasonable Price but run down"
The hotel is in a lovely location, just minutes from Botanical Gardens & 20 min walk into centre. The staff are pleasant & helpful, but the hotel itself is in need of upgrading (up for sale with vacant possession!). The food was not good & internet connection/ facilities were poor.

Its very old and tired, parking is bad too. The rooms were clean but so 70's not funny. For a few extra dollars go up market a bit.

Good location, but was disappointed to find out it was actually a Motel. My room faced onto the Carpark, and I had cars and people walking past my room all night. Service was pretty lacklustre, had to wait 5 minutes to check in while the staff member served at the bar and chatted up a customer.

Everything for me was great, booked in at new years eve for a place to stay. I wish the pool did not shut a 10.00pm as i wanted a 1.30 in the morning swim, and the buttons on my remote were just pathetic. if i pressed the buttons any harder, i would have crushed the remote in my hands.

Hotel is about a 5 minute walk to St Kilda Road trams and a 3 minute walk to Park Street tram. Rooms are basic but comfortable and clean. Room we were in requires some maintenance but hotel is slowly updating each room as time/bookings permit. It appears to be quite popular with its 3 carparking areas generally full for the duration of our stay. Breakfast […] is not included but basic breakfast is offered withabout 15 items on the menu. Hotel does provide wi-fi internet access in lobby area but you need to pay if using broadband internet via cable in room - cheaper to pay for 24 hours than by the hour!! Overall, this is my second stay at this establishment due to price and convenience. The only negative this time was the fact that because of changes to my plans, three bookings were made, but they could initially only find one. The hotel has seen better days b I guess this is represented by the price so it can be forgiven. However the maintenance of the hotel should be upkept. My husband was locked into the foyer WC for 45mins. After yelling and knocking he was released when I managed to get the receptionist. Later in our room the TV would not work and after we complained […] about this and the WC the receptionist moved us to another room. As a gratuity he offered us free movie but we couldn't even get the Foxtel to work in this TV never mind the movie. When we did get some snowy motion from the TV we couldn't hear it anyway. Situated in the cosy and wealthy area, with the tram to hectic city central just nearby. Convenient, nice and very good service.

We stayed at the Albany hotel during a 3 day conference in Melbourne. The value for money was great! The location of the hotel was very convenient..It was only a 5 minute drive to the convention centre. The rooms were average - bathrooms were clean. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to a conference in Melbourne's convention centre.

Not so comfortable with the room temperature which was on 'fixed' setting to heat during the second night. There was water dripping from the ceiling. There is a spa bath that does not operate. The room feels more like a motel (room no. 74).

"Queens bigger than Sydney!"
Recently stayed here for 1 night only. Chose the hotel because of the close location to Chapel St and the city. Hotel staff were very friend and accomodating. Rooms were cofortable. I have stayed in over 150 different hotels all over the world and can honestly say that the "queen" bed in the room was the largest "queen" I have ever seen!! It was ridiculously […] big, and the best bit was that it was comfy!! If you ask me what makes a hotel, it's not the frrebies, or the robes or the television or even the breakfasts. It's the bed. "Dirtiest room I've stayed in, in a long time!"
The hotel is in a nice area but the room I had was terrible. stains on the bedding, a broken toilet, grubby looking towels, a bathroom suite that looked well worn and about 30 yrs old. The pictures on Hotels.com are obviously from better days or better rooms. I could never honestly recommend this hotel to anyone.

I unfortunately was given a single queen bed, for two male adults (there for work), eventhough I requested two single beds. The hotel is really nice. It was clean and comfortable. The location is excellent! Very close to the city and St. Kilda beach. The decor was wicked - very different! Oh when in the room, look for a door handle - that's where the amentities are! (fridge, kettle, tea and coffee stuff)

The Albany Hotel is located in a nice and quiet part of Melbourne, very close to tram routes and if you are feel like going for a stroll there are some lovely parks and the city is only a 20 min walk away, as is Chapel street. The hotel itself is in need of an upgrade, it's very outdated and has very thin walls with rather noisy plumbing (we stayed […] in a standard double room). Oh, and keep an eye out for roaches. Every night when my partner and I returned and turned on the light we would see a few little roaches scurry away out of sight. Needless to say, a roach hunts occurred before any sleep was had. On a brighter note the rooms were nice and warm, which was crucial as we visited during winter, the housekeeping was done regularly and well and there was free Internet downstairs. A sweet, funny little hotel, just off Toorak Road, not far from St Kilda Road. Great colour scheme, love red, black and white. Friendly staff and quiet location. Perfect for a weekend or overnight getaway.

I was pleasantly surprised with my stay. The staff were really friendly, the location convenient, and the rooms small but comfortable. I've noticed people on here saying the water pressure wasn't very good and I didn't have that problem at all - the shower was great! I'd definitely stay here again.

certain positive things about the hotel were the low price in comparison to the competitors,nice surrounding area of south yarra,and the standard room was what you would expect for that price. bad things were : 1mm thick walls, i could hear everything that went on in the room, fans in the toilet being turned on during the night, and even the 'activities' […] of the neighbours.. from 7 am you could hear workers and trucks around, but i guess this would be a common problem in melbourne since most of the city is a building site..the hotel is 10 mins away by tram from the city, or a 40 min walk, so bare that in mind. overall i found the room acceptabily clean so i would recommend it , however take with you a set of earplugs Lisätietoja

UK pounds don't buy much in Australia anymore. Hotel is an hours walk from the airport bus terminal (none of the little shuttles go this far). Small shops and McDonalds nearby, pleasant residential neighbourhood next to the botanical gardens, is about half an hours work to the city. Got complimentary early check-in but room opened onto car park and […] was noisy from morning to night (curtains stayed firmly shut). Not a place for couples. There was no separation between the room and the toilet save some shaded glass so there's zero privacy. Tea / coffee making provided, one open cupboard, an alarm clock and fridge but no heating that I can remember. Free internet in the lobby if you can get on the machine. A shuttle is available back to the airport for a few dollars more than the airport bus. There’s a roof pool and bar but it was shut by 9pm when I checked it. Stayed at The Albany for a week, and it was a very pleasant stay overall. The staff was very warm, helpful and knowledgeable, from giving clear directions to the places we intend to visit to suggestions on car rentals. Parking was a little difficult when we got back to our room after 10pm however we always found a park near by on the street. The hotel was situated too far from the city centre but that was our fault as we didn't know Melbourne too well. The room was clean but the decor was very tired and needed upgrading. The staff were very courteous and helpful.

I recently stayed three nights at the Albany Hotel for a visit to family living in the area. On arrival I found the Albany staff to be very professional and responsive to my request for a room upgrade, after viewing my allocated room on the ground floor. I was very happy with the new larger room on the second floor, very comfortable king size bed, large […] tv and leafy outlook. Breakfast at the Albany was a highlight and I greatly enjoyed their corn patties, slow roasted tomatoes, mushrooms and spinach minus the eggs (as I am allergic). The single origin earl grey tea was another plus!! Free internet was also a bonus. We enjoyed our stay in a superior standard double room. The room itself was a little tired but the bathroom had clearly been refurbed and was lovely. We had problems with the key to our room repeatedly but staff did their best to help. Location is excellent and it is a nice quiet neighbourhood near to trams into the city but also close enough to walk […] if you are feeling active. "The Albany, Melbourne, for something a bit diff!"
Chose this hotel because of its close proximity to venue i needed to attend and reasonable room rate. I loved the quirky retro-ish decor, room was comfy and clean, in a quiet neighbourhood, close to cafe's/eateries, public transport, parks, and easy 20-30min walk into the CBD/Chapel street/NGV. The room had a few minor superficial blemishes (what hotel […] room DOESN'T!!), my only real concerns were that the taps over the wash basin were a little loose, which i found disconcerting, and the venetians did not close completely flush, so you could see people walking past your room, and those passing by your room could see in a little; if you are shy, i would recommend getting changed in the bathroom with the door closed. Also, if you like to unpack, there is little functional storage space. Lastly, the iron/ironing board in my room could use replacing as a matter of safety. That said, i would definitely stay there again if rates were reasonable. I didn't have much interaction with staff other than at check-in/out, staff i did deal with were pleasant and friendly. Although i didn't take advantage, (no room in the suitcase for gym gear this time, lol), i also loved that you were allowed complimentary access to Genesis (gym), about a 10-15min walk from the hotel (aka pre-workout warm-up!), and reading the hotel's compendium was most entertaining (it will definitely make you re-think Melb taxi's!). Lovely hotel in a fantastic location.Staff were friendly and willing to assist with any queries and client needs. Next time I visit I will ask for a room at the back not facing the main road of Toorak Road as was disturbed by the street noise of vehicles as totally unused to traffic noise. Otherwise was a great htel to stay.
Neither the shower or the bath were useable the first night of our stay. Following my complaint to the manager next morning the shower was fixed and worked perfectly the following evening. Unfortunately the bath tap which didn't work was not fixed. The bed was very comfortable!

We arrived rather late so the available parking was already gone and it was pouring down. First impressions very old, very quirky, pink and red paint black and white sort of early sixties. The lift was very old but it did work, staff were very pleasant, the dinner menue was very basic but found out the next day the dinining room had not long been taken […] over and was going to improve, the breakfast menue had already done so i had the best srambled eggs and my husband had french toast with bacon and maple syrup. Bed was very comfy with crisp white linen, the shower albeit old was full of pressure and hot, limited room to hang clothes as it was over the fridge! but if it's a short stay it would be okay.
