Clean modern hotel in a good location - the subway station is 50m away and you can also easily walk to the old town. Stayed in the samllest roon facing the interior courtyard and was satisfied. French balcony and a sufficient bathroom with a shower and marble floors. hte only two thing i didn't like was that the internet was not included in the price […] - and 120minutes would have cost too much I think in these modern times. Also just one narrow closet for clothes. But - would come again - especially if there would be a bargain price. The hotel is in a good area...cute little park directly in front, some decent restaurants nearby, a fun walking trail down by one of the bodies of water. The hotel itself was OK. Friendly staff. Room very small but clean. Carpets in hallway need a really good scrubbing.

I rarely write reviews, but the Rival was just so outstanding that I felt I had to do it. I spend a lot of time on the road and in some of the world's best hotels. The Rival is as good as any of them. It's super comfortable, in a great location and the staff is warm and helpful. It helps that the wifi is provided free of charge (I'm increasingly annoyed […] with charges for access). Between the lively bar area and the live theater to the list of DVDs from the front desk, you can tell that the owner of Rival set out to make a hotel experience any movie lover would call heaven. I have stayed here twice now, and on both occasions the hotel and the staff were excellent. The staff were always friendly and willing to help. I can't praise the hotel and staff enough. They really are "second best to none" (the title of a song they recorded a few years ago).

Loved it,great room , good beds , lovely bathroom with underfloor heating. Excellent buffet breakfast. Quiet location on a leafy square but near the underground and walkable to other areas of Stockholm. Recommend.

The hotel is in a great location, only 10 minutes walk to the old town. The staff were really friendly and helpful and spent time showing us the best places to go and booked us into a little bistro around the corner from the hotel for dinner which I definitely recommend. Expectations for the Rival are high, and it measures up. The rooms are well designed and comfortable, including the bed and bath features. Coffee and tea (and cookies) available on the 4th floor for everyone. The breakfast is highly touted and lives up to its high praise. The staff is splendid, always willing and able to help. They even recommended […] Swedish films, with English subtitles, to borrow (from an extensive list of DVDs mostly American). The bar is lively and a cool place to have a drink.The hotel is situated on a pleasant square, close enough to the major shopping area of the Sodermalm section of Stockholm, with some pleasant shops nearby. You're also in walking distance to the Old City. Several good restaurants within a 10-15 minute walk. As overpriced as the city is, the Rival gives good value! Easy enough access by the T; the taxi from the Central Station will cost you $20. Probably not for families of more than 3 or for those who don't like to walk. Lisätietoja

Superb hotel and great location. Room and hotel finished stylishly and to a high standard. Staff very helpful and made you feel welcome. Bar and restaurant both worth a visit. Menu was expensive but the food excellent quality.

These guys dont play to not lose, they play to win, very impressed with the vibe that has been created. Very modern without being souless, the service was freindly without being intrusive. I choose this hotel because of its very high customer ratings, the food is excellent and has a real regional and national quality to it.

Breakfast and internet were included in our stay--this is a must when we travel. Rooms were nice with the added touches of the free DVD library and music CD's.

Good location; friendly staff; expensive drinks like everywhere in Stockholm. We were initially in a room with no AC but they moved us to one with when we asked.

From day one, we realized the great value in our stay here. The location is convenient to local transportation to all of the city. The hotel is clean and includes restaurants, a bar, free coffee, free internet, free movies, and helpful, friendly staff. We would return here and recommend this great hotel to friends.

A well maintained and unique hotel across from a small park. A very short walk to the subway provides easy access around the city and the Old City is just a short walk across one of many waterways.

Stockholm is a beautiful and truly a on-foot city. Such a nice city would be enjoyed also by staying in Rival which is not a chain hotel. Rival hugs you when you enter though it is a hotel without any luxuory. It is in a residential area but 10 min walk to old town Gamla. Restaurant is satisfactory, main courses limited but very tasty. Wine is rather […] expensive in Stockholm. bar is so big and cheerful depending on the day (fridays and saturdays full). Rooms are comfortable, delux room is bigger than standard. King bed is truly a king size with a minimalist style. for Bathroom needs a touch even in Rival as new look faced bathrooms provide more fresh and clean feelings to anyone. Rooms have free dvd and a collection of films. Stockholm is not a cheap destination as one would find another hotel cheaper than Rival with breakfast included. I also stayed in Hilton down the road and both are fine hotels without any excessive luxuory. Certainly visit vasa museum and try the fish restaurant "Ruby Grill Fisk" in Gamla just behind the Palace. If you go to Stockholm for a short period of 2-3 nights then stay in Rival. Loved the Rival when I stayed here 7 years ago and glad to find it largely unchanged - since they pretty much got it right first time. Not exactly self-consciously hip although I suspect some of its customers are - don't let this put you off though, as many different types of folk have clearly discovered this hotel's attractions. The Rival is different, […] yes certainly stylish, in a decisive but not in-your-face way. It really is a design hotel where somehow the design just works. The half of your room with the bathroom and closet in it is red, the rest is blonde wood - works. You can see the bottles in the bar through the frosted glass wall as you enter the restaurant - works. Abba pictures on roller blind - works (yes honest). And so on. The Rival just has a unique and appealing feel throughout. It's also remarkably quiet (at any rate in the courtyard-facing rooms like mine) despite a boisterous bar etc. on Friday & Saturday nights. Just inspired. Only drawback for Stockholm is no water views - but plenty of the best are close by. Restaurant is pretty impressive too - a little pricey, like most in Stockholm (though less than some). Breakfast is exemplary - cooked dishes if you wish, plentiful salmon, croissants, amazing Swedish crisp bread, honey, quality meats etc. etc. Conveniently close to Mariatorget Tunnelban (subway) station, which is only 3 stops from the airport train terminus. We had an excellent experience. Staffing is minimal and almost invisible but the Hotel is amazing. No room service available but a very nice breakfast is provided. Very stylish in the midst of Visby's medieval setting. Great location. We would definitely stay there again.

Very stylish and funky hotel about 10 mins walk from Gamla Stan. The restaurant is also excellent and has a great buffet breakfast. The staff were very friendly and accomodating, allowing us to check in prior to the normal check-in time. I would not hesitate in staying there again.

The staff was great. They were very friendly and greeted and acknowledge me immediately everytime if would leave and come back to the hotel. The rooms were not your standard cookie cutter hotel room. They were very chic and unique. I would definately stay here again.

We loved this hotel in its peaceful setting, yet within easy walking distance to major sights. In addition, due to national holiday when restaurants were closed, we ate at the hotel and had one of the best meals of our trip. We will definitely return.

What a wonderful hotel! Beds were really comfortable and they had a pillow menu. We stayed in a Deluxe Double with both a bathtub and walk-in shower. Loved the Shower! Breakfast buffet was great. Rival Cafe attached to the hotel was great to have for lovely baked goods, however, there was complimentary tea and coffee on the 4th floor with cookies. Very pleasant Hotel, staff very welcoming and attentive. The room was a little on the small side for me but comfortable nevertheless. The location just south of the old town (10m walk) and the main shopping centre a further 10m walk was just fine. Though on a Friday night, this is a popular club/restaurant/bar area, we did encounter quite a few loud […] inebriated people doing things you may not care to see on the street.
