Clarion Hotel Historic District - Williamsburg

Convnient but dirty. Clogged sinks and showers. Very noisy at night. Friendly staff however

In all fairness, I may be a bit of a hotel snob and the Clarion may be just what it is suppose to be for the price in Williamsburg. Staff was great but my room was a little dingy for my taste.

This hotel is needing attention in certain areas, but the staff was always friendly and helpful when contacted. I called room service 4 times on 2 different occasions and never got an answer. Finally left a voicemail to the random voicemail that I was fed to, and never got a response from that either. Called the front desk to ask about it and they […] said that perhaps "they couldn't hear the phone over the noise in the restaurant." She offered to walk down and ask them to call us back, but I declined since we had given up and already called for pizza delivery. Both days, breakfast buffet was poorly staffed and often mostly empty food containers. Oatmeal tasted burnt, like it had been on the steam table too long perhaps without water. Staff, when they appeared, were friendly and competent. 4th floor hall smelled dank, like mildew. Entrance doors at the side and pool were left unlocked well after dark or propped open. A bit concerning security wise. Door key regularly took about 10 swipes to unlock our door. Pool was arctic and no towels were left for swimmers, after being admonished by signs in our room not to take bath towels to the pool. They double charge me for my stay, Don't let the Lobby fool you; it is dirty inside. I found a bug on the towels.

My daughter, a student at ODU, and I met at this hotel for a planned getaway day/night trip as I live in Northern VA and Williamsburg seemed to be a perfect meeting point for several reasons. We checked in, dropped our bags, and headed up to the Outlet Mall. We returned to the hotel, freshened up, and asked for directions to the town square for dinner […] as neither she or I were familiar with the location. We were given incorrect directions from the hotel clerk which threw us off our path for about 20 minutes...long story short... we found where we wanted to eat and had a nice dinner together. Upon returning to the hotel, it was nothing but noisy as the walls were paper thin. I woke up several times during the night as our room was right next to the ice machine and it was extremely loud and utilized all night. The next morning I woke up to the ice machine...big surprise..tried to go back to sleep but couldn't. Went to take my shower and just get out of this place....but here is where it completely went downhill....no hot water. I let the water run for ten minutes...no change. At that time my daughter and I were so annoyed with this experience we decided to check out and get out of there. As I checked out, the same clerk who provided incomplete directions asked how the stay was. I politely explained to her the night was very noisy as the ice machine is very loud...she shrugged her shoulders and said, "ok". No apologies, just "ok". I then told her the room had no hot water, again...."ok" was her response. I felt like I was dreaming....she didn't seem to care our experience was so bad. When I said to her..."don't you care we had such a bad experience here"? All she said was, "someone else complained about no hot water...they let it run for about 10 minutes and it warmed up a little". Very economical price with decent accommodations and facilities. Excellent location.

Excellent location for visiting Colonial Williamsburgh. Room was a little tight and right next to active railroad.

We were dissapointed in this hotel. Starting with the lack of warmth or professionalism behind the front desk ( unusual for Williamsburg) to their lack of knowledge of the hotel ( we were told that no small refrigerators could be had in the dog friendly rooms - but liuckily there was a permanent one in the room already- staff didn't know?) The decor […] and furnishings were very dated with cracks in the walls and waterspots on the ceiling and wood rot ialong the base and top of the bathroom door - Perhaps it was because we were staying in a dog friendly room? THe room was clean. One of the two double beds in the room was terribly in need of a new matress - very worn springs. About a 15 minute walk to the Government house in historic area. Great if you are a jogger. Quiet, pleasant. Not fancy but nice. Very good for the money.

From a dirty bathtub to a broken iron and coffee maker to an indoor pool with a broken heater that was too cold to even put a foot in and a staff that didn't do anything to remedy most of the issues - this place was terrible. Hotels.com damages it's reputation by even marketing this place.

the hotel bar was open until 2:00 am. This caused first floor noise and traffic. Also a cock roach was found in the bathroom floor which we left to see if the cleaning crew would remove. It was still on the floor that evening when we returned at 11:00 pm. The manager was not available that evening or the next morning. We stayed tthree nights. Have stayed here twice and have no complaints at all with the hotel. As with any aging hotel there are some rough spots in decor, but not at an unacceptable level. Location is very good close to restored area of Williamsburg and other venues. Bush Gardens just 2 miles down the road. Very large inside pool in good condition.

We made a reservation on line in July for October for 2 nights and requested a king bed and not an end room, these rooms are smaller and very little room to move around. Called inSeptember to add another night and reconfirmed the king bed and no end room and was told everything was fine. When we got there, they tried to give us two double beds. We would […] not accept this and showed them confirmation from the original booking and after 27 minutes of discussion we got our correct room, of course they had to take someone elses room. They said they don't get correct information from on line bookings, of course I disagreed with this and showed them the paperwork. As far as I am concerned they don't match up the rooms from bookings made on line. We also waited 27 minutes for a manage who never showed up to talk to us nor contacted us later. The clerk did a good job in the end, got us the correct room and gave us a free breakfast, wouldn't give us a discount on the room. Went to the hot tub and it was luke warm and no way to turn it up. Went to the bar and was told they couldn't make drink that needed a blender that the lid was missing from the blender and most likely wouldn't be getting another one. We have been coming to Williamsburg since 1998 and always stay at The Clarion Hotel, formerly Four Points. The hotel staff was always efficient, pleasant, courteous and very helpful. I enthusiastically endorse The Clarion. Our cost for 6 nights was much less than the 2 nights we paid for a hotel in Connecticut where we attended a wedding. I've been to my share of average hotels, this one is no different than all the other ones. But it is clean! The employee manning the front desk was really helpful getting us checked in at 10:30 at night and recommending local restaurants that would still deliver at that time on a Sunday. He even called them for us and checked that they were still open […] and delivering. I would stay there again because of the service and the proximity to Colonial Williamsburg. Lisätietoja

At first our room was dirty with dog pee stains on the towels, but as soon as we brought the attention to the front desk we were moved to another room and the service was great! The pool and jaccuzi was not very clean seemed to be alot of mold.

The location was awesome! Within walking distance to the historic area - priceless! We didn't have to waste time finding parking. The hotel was great for the price - clean, great customer service, nice pool. I've stayed at a lot of places over the years in Williamsburg - I am looking forward to staying here again!

This hotel was great!!! It was very close to Bush Gardens and downtown Williamsburg. The Bar downstairs was amazing and the staff was fantastic. We are planning another trip to Williamsburg in Oct and plan to stay at the same place.

Upon arriving we were addressed by name and rudely told that we were "the last people to check in" (it was 7:00 pm after a day at Busch Gardens). We were then given a room key and directed to where we would be staying. However, once we opened our room door we were greeted by another guest eating dinner in her pajamas on the hotel bed. The hotel had […] double-booked our room. Thankfully the guest was very kind and the situation was not nearly as embarassing as it had the potential to be. Within walking distance of Colonial Williamsburg and a short drive to Busch Gardens and Water Country. Had a GREAT experience!! Friendly, helpful staff. Nice rooms. Will definitely stay again.

Excellent condition

Everything was ok. Front desk staff was a little frustrated with another guest who showed up with more dogs than anticipated, but they were doing the best they could under the circumstances. If the teenagers didn't quiet down by 10, I was going to complain, but by 10 they were done running up and down the halls.

I was very dissatified, first they put us in a room on the first floor down in a corner. It looked as though we were down in the work area for employees. Then when we open our window (thinking we were gona have a nice view) all we saw was rusty steps, trash cans and the back of a building. So we had to keep the windows closed gloom and doom feeling. […] We did however went to complain about it, they moved us to another room and then we had to keep killing insects (2 stink bugs and then a wasps). I really could not relax because i was affraid of another insect scare. I used to clean hotels so im not just nick pickn, It was other things too but in my view, just dont stay at this hotel. We reserved our room over a month in advance for a Saturday night stay. We checked in right at 4:00pm and were placed in a very, very small king room. I asked to move but was told there were no other king rooms available. I was shown a double room which was significantly larger (more like a normal hotel room) but we wanted a king room so we stuck with […] the small room. The hot tub was not very hot, but warm enough, didn't try the pool but it looked clean. No breakfast or any other amenities except free parking. Restaurant/bar downstairs but we did not venture out. This hotel is good for the price and location. The staff was friendly and the service was OK. The first room we received the beds were not made. The second room a few lights didn't work. The location was excellent (walking distance to Colonial Williamsburg and only a couple miles from Busch Gardens), the hotel was fine, not fancy, but decent. It wasn't dirty, which is important, but the TV didn't work so well and the bathroom was very small. The staff was friendly enough and I would stay here again for the cheap price.

We were very disappointed to find how downhill this property has gone since changing from a Sheraton to a Clarion. We always brought our dog and were always given a nice large room on the fourth floor. The front desk said they were full and only had first floor room. The parking lot was almost empty and NO lights were on in fourth floor windows They […] stuck us in a tiny tiny room in an alcove near exit. It smelled and was far from clean. This property used to be a Sheraton and was a good hotel, but now under a new name it's poorly maintained, has significant odors throughout the hotel and the staff is very rude. Only good thing is the friendly bar staff.
