The rooms are just ok,,,,funky smell, but I think it was bleach....staff is very nice....breakfast was not very good...

We spent the weekend in Monterey to relax and hang out. The hotel was an excellent place to use as our home base. It is withing walking distance of the mall which has several really nice restaurants. The facilities are not a 5 star hotel, but that would have cost ten times as much! The room was clean and roomy. The bed was comfortable. The refrigerator […] and microwave made it really nice too. The breakfast - cereal, toast, juice, coffee, and bananas - filled us up just fine. The owner was extremely conscientious and helpful. He went out of his way to make our stay great. Rough. Bathroom is from the 70s, as are the decor and bedding. It was clean, but not too comfortable. I wouldn't go back to stay for that price.

The rooms have laminate flooring and very thin walls. I could hear every footstep, door, snore and even the sound of the utensiles against the plate of the people around me. I got very little sleep and was disapointed. Also, I couldn't get useful wifi reception from my room.

This is a hotel with some miles on it. The rooms remind me of Motel 6(much used), although it is a Howard Johnson. The people running it were very nice and helpful, but the rooms are not well maintained in the rear section, where we were (older section). Higher priced (I would assume) rooms in the front section looked like they were in better condition […] (newer). The customer service was wonderful! However, the photos are MUCH better than reality! The blankets had some stains on them, and there were only three towels in the bathroom. The walls were paper thin, we could hear everything going on in other rooms.

I got in late and left early, so my stay was fine. Nothing special about the hotel, but a great price, especially for the area. The room was big, and the bed was firm, I was there for a morning round of golf so it was fine for me by myself, I wouldn't necessarily bring my wife, although she is a trooper, and we have stayed in much worse in our yout […] h! Good. I did think it was priced a bit too high for the room we got. I think a more reasonable rate would be about $125 for that room.

Adequate for an overnight stay. Coffe maker didn't work and the room could use a little facelift but other than that it was o.k.

very nice hotel in Monterey, CA...just about a mile away from the beach and the downtown wharf area. The hotel manager was very friendly and accomodating. We plan to stay at this hotel again and would recommend it has well.

Smelt like curry, continental breakfast toast and coffee/orange juice, not satisfying!. Bathrooms were disgusting. Shower curtain not even connected to wall. Stay away!!

We were satisfied with the location. The hotel is older and in general is basic. However the manager was very responsive and friendly and the room was very clean. We would stay there again. The breakfast was also good, having a good selection of foods for the limited space available.

Comfortable and clean but I had issues with how small the breakfast area was. It was a tiny counter right in the reception area, and there were no places to sit down with your food, so we had to walk all the way back to our room with our hands full of food. Rather dumpy. Exhaust fan in bathroom real noisy and you can hear the other rooms fan too. There are better but it was a busy weekend in Monterey and most hotels were full. Will not go back.

This hotel is perfect for a one night stay. The continental breakfast was in the lobby were you check in and there were no tables. No convenient.

The only positives about our stay was the price and the location of the hotel. The negatives... The bathroom floor and shower had hair. The electrical outlet was missing the cover, the knob to the heater was also missing, and the curtains were held closed by two office binder clips. The walls were paper thin so he got an ear full of our neighbors playing […] house. Then at 1 am the guys upstairs decided they were going have a rap competition until 2:30 am and when we contacted the front desk to complain no one answer until the 3rd try. The same neighbors decided to wake up bright and early the next day and it sounded like they were moving the furniture from one side of the room to the other. Hotel was OK, but it is old and not very well maintained. The first room I was assigned (#103) had a bed that sagged in the middle; I was given another room with a much better bed. I reported several issues to the front desk when I checked out after the third night: Electrical outlets were so old that they wouldn't hold the prongs of the plugs in the […] outlet. The toilet tank flapper valve needed replacing... this caused the tank to refill about every 5-10 minutes. The light over the table had a motion sensor switch and would step up the brightness to the max and then shut off... unusable for reading. The sink in the bathroom was slow to drain. I didn't spend a lot of time in the room, but I was disappointed in the maintenance. Also, it wasn't clear to me when I made the reservation that it was non-refundable. The room was OK except for a bed smell and a sink that was leacking badly. We told the desk about it and they should have sent somebody during our stay outside for the day, but only when we mentioned it is still running then somebody came and fixed it.

The location is on hotel row, across from the mall. It is within a couple miles from all the main Monterey attractions (fisherman's wharf, aquarium, cannery row, etc.). The room was large and clean. It had a small refrigerator and a microwave. The breakfast was a little better than average - waffles, sweet rolls, English muffins, orange juice and coffee. […] You did have to bring the food up to your room as there was no place to sit. The bed was comfortable and the heater worked well. The first room I got smelled like smoke because the person next door to that room was outside their room chain smoking. This hotel is great! The room is nice with a frig, microwave and coffee maker. The front desk guy was very nice and helpful. Its less then 5 mins. from the beach and only two blocks from the mall, witch has great restaurants and a theater. We ended up staying 2 extra nights here.

We stayed at this hotel for a few nights to get out of town. Do some sight seeing and what not. Hotel was great, only down fall was the night girl. She was SO rude, didn't care if we were comfortable or not, and when we talked about upgrading our room, she need very uninterested and said "that's a very expensive room" inplying we did not have enjoy […] $$$ to pay for it. So, other than her (the indian woman maybe mid 20's early 30s), we had a nice time. Bed was very comfortable as well. We didn't expect much because of the great price but we were happily surprised to be given a microwave, blow dryer, and refrigerator. They also offered a continental breakfast with waffes, cereal, tea, and hot chocolate. Fairly small hotel but only a very short drive to downtown and aquarium as well as 10 min to Carmel. Only negative thing was that […] when my boyfriend and I got there she to me that i was booked for 1 night until I told her that I had my receipt in the car. So bring your receipt! The stay at this hotel was fine. Room and beds were clean and comfortable. The hotel staff were helpful. I have to make one complaint. The card key for the room worked only about 1 in 10 times. They re-charged the card key but that didn't help any.

This motel was convenient to Highway 1 but not to Monterey attractions. Breakfast good, close to shopping mall, quiet and good service. No internet PC for guests, wireless available.

The Motel was very disappointing. A toilet plunger came with the room and was used, the bathroom sink faucet barely trickled water, carpet was dirty, and the well worn old room was in dire need of updating. Not recommended.

Nice staff, shame about the condition of the room. It all felt slightly grimy and there were fingermarks by the door handle, not sure if it was grime or wear. Frankly, it was depressing. The toilet cistern overflowed which finished us off. We left a day early.

It's OK if you just want a place to stay for a night or two. Skip the breakfast and go .5 mile to The Wild Plum Cafe and Bakery. Excellent food there.
