Petite Auberge, a Joie de Vivre Boutique Hotel - San Francisco

The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. I drove to the city and choose to have my vehicle valet parked. While I paid a bit more than I would have finding a parking garage on my own, the convenience of parking in front of the hotel doors and dropping off keys was well worth it. My vehicle was always ready for me in the morning after giving advanced […] notice. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the room at check-in as well as each evening when I returned. While the room itself was very comfortable, with a nice mattress, sheets, and plenty of space for 2 people, other hotel guests created some distracting noise. The guests in the room above us would walk around endlessly for hours and their floor was very squeaky. Despite this and making a call to the front desk for an alarm clock in a vacant room to be turned off, I was able to get a good nights rest. The hotel is located less than 2 blocks from a boarding area for the famous Powell Street cable cars. This made it easy to get down to Union Square for dining and shopping. Catching a ride up the hill goes all the way north to Ghirardelli Square with great views of the bay. A quick switch at California Street will get you into the financial district and near the Ferry Building. So in terms of navigating the busiest parts of the city, Petite Auberge is in a great location. Surprisingly it is far enough from Union Square that there isn't much street noise outside the hotel which I was pleased about. If you plan to do activities around Golden Gate Park, or the western side of the city, long bus rides and a lot of walking will get you there, but I would recommend taking a car for the day. My favorite part about the Petite Auberge was its complimentary fireside evening wine and hors d'oeuvres. These were delicious and made a great appetizer, saving us money at the restaurants. We stayed at the Petit Auberge for three nights and loved it! The room was small, but cozy; offset by the larger shared space downstairs with couches and a fireplace. It feels just like a bed and breakfast. It is in a perfect location-close to shopping and restaurants in Union Square, near the cable car lines. It was an easy walk fromn the Bart Line, […] which we took from the airport. The breakfast was very good, more than I would typically make myself at home and so convenient. It was very nice to have bottled water, pop, apples, cookies, tea and coffee accessible all day at no extra charge. We loved the complimentary wine and appetizers from 5-7pm as we met two great couples, one from Australia and one from Colorado that we socialized with each night. All of the other guests were very friendly as well. We found that if we got there late (after 6) there wasn't much left of the appetizers as they didn't replenish them. But there was usually enough wine to enjoy a glass. We primarily went to socialize with the other guests. The hotel was in a quiet area, but it is a city with street noise. They provided a white noise machine which cancelled out some of it. And a garbage truck came by every morning at 5:30am which was pretty loud! But just wear earplugs. Great place for a long weekend in the city. Close to shopping, dining, entertainment. We recommend the rooms with a fireplace - goes perfectly with the S.F. fog. Complementary soft drinks and bottled water is a nice touch. Parking is a problem and valet parking is expensive. Well located for access to transportation and sights and theaters. Inexpensive and friendly, pretty well-maintained. An old property re-done in "B&B style" it lacks many modern amenities and comforts, but a great choice for those on a budget.

Reasonable price, good central location, very nice staff. They need to get fitted sheets that will actually fit the bed, other than that a nice place to stay.

This quaint small hotel offers attentive service and lovely rooms and spaces. We enjoyed a delightfully french sweetly-appointed room with fireplace. Breakfast was delicious with fresh fruit, potato-sauage bread and other good things to eat. We highly recommend this hotel.

This is a very cute little boutique hotel. It is in an older building, so the floors creak a bit and some of the doors are stiff, so if that will disturb you, this isn't the place for you. The wine reception in the evening was fun and we met some of the other guests and found out a few things to do. The breakfast in the morning was great. The first […] morning they had quiche and the second morning there was homemade biscuits and gravy. This is not your usual stale pastry continental breakfast. Our room was on the second floor (which is where you enter the building). The wallpaper was a bit over the top for me, but the bed was comfortable and we really enjoyed the fireplace in our room. We recently stayed for two nights and had a room with a fireplace. The room was nicely appointed. The shower had good water pressure (important to us). We didn't take advantage of the evening wine and appies, but can tell you that the breakfasts were quite substantial and choices were plentiful. The location is great and puts you a short walking distance […] from Chinatown and Union Square. You can pick up a cable car only a couple of blocks away, so it is very convenient. Great location, needs updating, but it didn't matter because the price was very reasonable. Excellent breakfast. We felt right at home. Some street noise but that is what you get on a busy SF street in the Nob Hill area. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Upon checking in to the hotel, I found it locked with a sign posted to go to the hotel next door to check in. The staff member there was very pleasant, but that was pretty much the extent of positive experience at Petite Auberge. Walking to my room, there were carpet stains at the entrance to pretty much every room...they appeared to be reminiscent […] of the "after effects" of a frat party if you know what I mean. Entering my room, things did not get better. The website photos made the place look like a charming French chateau. However, in reality the antique looking furnishings on the website ended up just being old, broken down furniture . The floors creaked with every step. The toilet did not work properly. There was no closet to hang clothes, no amenities like an iron, etc. The TV was small and the remote control did not work. The bath towels were small and paper thin - about what you would expect from a Motel 6 or Econolodge. The bathroom was small and cramped, with only enough room for a toilet and shower...the sink was actually installed in the room itself. The room was small and cramped, and every square inch is plastered with dainty flowered wallpaper. The one surprising highlight was a fireplace in the room that turned on with a switch. Unfortuantely, the pilot light for the fireplace - which is always on - was turned on so high that you had to listed to a loud whooshing sound all night long. Petite Auberge has a free breakfast available each morning, a very nice touch. The food quality is average to okay, but there is a nice selection including oatmeal, quiche, breads, granola, juice and coffee - much metter than a standard continental breakfast. Overall, the Petite Auberge is a dissapointment, it is old and tired. I expected much more from the Joie de Vivre chain, which can usually be counted on for quality. A really cute hotel, within 2-3 blocks of Union Square and the cable cars. The room looked out to a solid brick wall next door, which some may not like. However, it we didn't mind it at all. In fact, it made the room that much quieter from all the noise you usually get from being in an urban area. Petite Auberge in San Francisco is a querky place to stay - good position and very comfortable without being luxurious.Great value with breakfast included and wine and hors d'oeuvres every evening. A sociable place to chat with your fellow travellers.

Wonderful Oasis...a bit of country french flavour...great breakfast, snacks in the evening and even a fridge stocked with water and sodas to quench your thirst at night. I would definitely stay here again. Its really very warm and cozy. My room even had a fire place and that was a welcomed treat. Loved it!

Our room was quaint and very clean. They forgot to give us soap, but were very prompt in bringing what we needed. The hotel is very charming. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. We ended up using the hotel's valet parking - it was only a few dollars more than what we were told was available down the road. You will have to wait for your car, we waited about 20 minutes in the morning we were leaving. My husband and I have stayed at the Petite about 6 or 8 times, and each time we love this little hotel more. The fireplace means the most to us, then there is the great breakfast Patrice prepares each morning. They also serve wine in the late afternoon along with a salad, fruit, cheese, pasta, and a special dessert all of which is home made by Patrice […] and others Andy takes care of all the luggage and always has great suggestions about seeing San Francisco proper. The front desk personnel are all new now that they have a new manager. Everyone is still very pleasant and always lending a helping hand. If you enjoy staying in small boutique hotels, this one is very nice. It was very comfortable, the staff was extremely helpful and pleasant. We had a fireplace in our room which, believe it or not, came in handy the last week in July. The breakfast was very nice, not just danish and coffee but eggs, breakfast meat, fruit, quiche, and assorted breads […] and rolls. The cost for valet parking was a surprise, but the staff was accommodating whenever we needed our car. The trolly stop wasn't more than a couple of blocks away. Everything my wife and I liked about the hotel was overshadowed by the fact that we could not sleep. The small room assigned to us was close to the front door of the hotel and right next to the elevator. We requested another room but were told they were sold out. The provided white noise machine at its loudest volume could not mask the bangs and crashes […] of luggage being loaded on and off the elevator and the front door slamming shut. The luggage cart was always parked outside our room leaving little room to pass by in the narrow corridor. The creaking of the old wooden floors above was minimal compared to the other noises but did not make sleeping any easier. We suggest they convert room 22 into a closet. Lisätietoja

Enjoyed our time here greatly. Helpful staff, good food and interestingly decorated rooms ... which were a possible drive to go see SF!

we chose the Petite Auberge for convenience and all the reviews we read were good. the hotel surpassed our expectations. It is not a big modern impersonal chain which is what made it so special. The guests actually spoke to each other in the breakfast room and in the afternoons at the free wine reception held in the lobby. The breakfast was varied […] and substantial and plentiful. water and soft drinks were available all day and night. the rooms are not very big but the are spotless and comfortable. 建物自体は古いのですがよくメンテナンスされています。逆にエレベーターが旧式だったりして楽しめます。上の階の足音が筒抜けなのが残念ですが、それさえなければ場所も便利（ワンブロック先をケーブルカーが走っています）ですし、サービスも抜群だと思います（朝食や、ディナー前のハウスワイン等のサービスもあります）。 何より、部屋で暖炉に当たりながらゆっくりできる時間がすてきです。宿泊をされる際には、是非暖炉付きのお部屋をお薦めします。

Mycket mysigt hotell, inredning med blommiga tapeter och öppen spis på rummet. Bra frukost, det finns ägg, gröt, fil, frukt och rostat bröd, sådant uppskattas av mig. På eftermiddagarna serveras tilltugg med vin, trevligt tillfälle att prata lite med de andra gästerna på hotellet. Rekommenderas!

Super service - very friendly staff ! There is some noice in the morning from the streets, but it is a big city and it must be the same at all hotels. Very nice breakfast. Small and very cozy hotel. Would absolutely stay there again.

We had a small room that wasn't exactly state of the art, it compensated all that however by having lots of charm. The hotel is conveniently located a short walk up from Union Square, Chinatown and the cable car downhill to Fisherman's Wharf. A very friendly and helpful staff and decent breakfast make this hotel good value for money in San Fran. This hotel is close to Union Square and to the public transportation service. The hotel offers free tea, coffee and drinks overnight during the stay. The decoration "French style" is nice, and the overall confort is nice too.

Trivsamt och mysigt I fransk lantstil! Personlig inredning. Större rum med egen öppen spis. Bra och vänlig service. God, "hemgjord" frukost och dryck att hämta för gratis. Pricken över I:et var vinbjudningen med snacks på kvällen där man fick samtidigt möjlighet att snacka med andra hotellgäster. Nära till det mesta men ändå lugnt.

Die Angestellten und der Service sind sehr gut, da gibt es nichts auszusetzen! Um 16.00 Uhr gibt es einen Snack wo man die andren Gäste kennenlernt, sehr heimelig. Zimmer war etwas klein und Sicht in einen Hinterhof, aber in einer Stadt wie San Francisco und zu dem Preis gibt es nichts auszusetzen. Zustand des Zimmers war nicht mehr ganz auf dem neusten […] Stand (ältere etwas knarrende Böden, kleine Dusche/Bad)... Wegen der Lage und dem Preis ist die Petite Auberge aber absolut zu empfehlen !
