Vizcaya - Sacramento

This is not a hotel; it is an old victorian home!Very very very old and dirty bedrooms. I would stay away from this one if you want to sleep in Sacramento.

This is the 2nd time I have stayed at this hotel. Very friendly and comfortable - privacy is nice too.

Upon arrival (due to picture on web site) we went to the door for the pavilion, which was locked. It wasn't until a little investigating did we find the actual hotel (an old Victorian). The front door was locked, which seemed unusual. We were let in and asked to wait in the foyer for someone to check us in. Charming property. Quaint 4-5 room inn at hotel prices. Old world charm, antique feel. I think we were the only guests...so it felt like we owned the place! If you are a couple looking for a B & B feel in Downtown Sacramento...this is THE place to stay! Not a place, however, that I would stay with a family. A pleasant surprise and a very romantic venue. A very old mansion near old town sacto on atree lined street with decorations from long ago. I would stay their again

Arrived at nearly 1:30am. Nighttime Innkeeper was very polite and responsive to our needs! Bed was very comfortable, hotel was beautiful and the bed and breakfast feel was great! My girlfriend had problems with the blow dryer in the room (the electrical current was waving in and out) and the bathroom was tiny, but all in all it was a very pleasant experience. A lovely, older mansion in a quiet and interesting part of Sacramento. A very comfortable place to stay with hot coffee in the afternoon and lots of restaurants nearby within walking distance down the leafy, tree-lined streets. A really beautiful hotel with kind staff, and I can't wait to return!

The facilities and room were very clean and comfortable. Staff was very accommodating. Nice neighborhood.

A unique and elegant experience not unlike a European converted manor house. Quiet and clean; the staff went out of the way to make us comfortable and welcome. The bath wasn't functional but our room and bathroom otherwise well appointed with tasteful period decor. Nice breakfast in calm and bright setting.

This is a old house in Sacramento that should not be called a hotel. It has old furniture, very small TV, old and stained carpet, no registration desk, no magnetic keys. The "hotel" parking is for 5-6 cars, and no more than 4 rooms on the second floor. The air conditioning control is on the hallway, and it controls all the rooms. I would like that hotels.com […] publish real photos of this so called "hotel", not some private events photos from their mansion, so eventual customers are aware off what they are spending money on. The hotel is unique with its look and style. I am a salesperson and I would not recommend it for business. There are no elevators which isn't a big deal except when you have 5 bags to haul in. Parking is free but pretty much non existent. The one thing that completely ruined it for me was the amount of fragrance in the room and on the sheets. I couldn't […] sleep all night because of the overpowering smell of perfumed detergent on the sheets. It was head-ache inducing. The bathroom in my room was very large and cute. Double shower heads. But like I said NOT the place for a business trip, not convenient enough. They are set up for weddings I think. Oh and the place is empty after 10 at night. The hotel was like a bed and breakfst. It had beautiful, large bathroom with soaking tub and heater. The grounds were very beautiful and so convenient for wedings there.

Our second stay at Vizcaya. We originally picked it because of its closeness to our daughter's house. But the staff are very accomodating, the rooms are comfortable and there is free wifi. We would definitely recommend it even if it is a little out of your way.

We spent one night at the Vizcaya during the off-season (early February). Check-in process was a little awkward as there was no registration desk and you're left standing in the entryway while paperwork is gathered. The house is old. The carpet in the parlor area was old, worn, and "buckled". Chairs for "relaxing" in the parlor area were appealing to […] the eye, but once sat in, it was obvious they were very broken down - and UNCOMFORTABLE. When we checked-in, we were offered an upgrade for a very nominal fee. The upgrade was to a "suite" - in the Carriage House - with a wood-burning stove, a 2-person soaking tub and a double shower. The room itself was small and dated, with a hodgepodge of furnishings and decor. There was a small fridge and a coffee maker in the room. There was a small table with white wicker chairs, however the wicker chairs were broken down (I felt like I might fall through one of them) and had bed pillows for cushions. The bathroom was quite large, but the advertisement of "Italian marble" causes you to expect something a bit more elegant. The only place where there seemed to be any resemblance of Italian marble, was the floor tile. All the other tile around the tub, shower and walls was your generic white tile (with quite a few areas of dingy grout). The "soaker tub" was actually a jacuzzi tub whose jets didn't work - hence a "soaker tub". The double shower was nice, but it took a long time to get hot water. The switches for the fan and heater in the bathroom did not work. The bathrobes were old, rough, and torn. My robe's pockets were almost completely ripped off. The Continental breakfast buffet was extremely limited. It consisted of orange juice, milk, water, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, fresh fruit, granola, a few containers of yogurt, packets of oatmeal, hard-boiled eggs, string cheese, plain bagels, english muffins, bread (toaster was available) and what looked like overcooked and dry scones/biscuits. This is a cute B&B, and cheaper than many of the surrounding hotels. That being said, I was pretty disappointed with the decor and setup of the place: it was straight out of the 80s. The curtains and linens were of the cheap motel variety. The best part of this hotel is the location in midtown Sacramento. The rooms are a little dated and the carpeting is to be desired, however, the beds are very comfortable and the bathroom was very clean. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. I stayed at the Vizcaya during a business trip and am I ever glad I did! The Vizcaya has comfortable rooms with huge bathrooms and great complimentary snacks. This is a decent B & B. Rooms are a little dated, as others have noted. So if stained carpets and chipped paint bug you, don't go here. But it is clean and comfy and offers the B & B charm. A litle out of the way in residential area.

A wonderfully unique experience. I've always wanted to stay in a bed and breakfast like this. My room was lovely, large, with stained glass and lots of turn of the century embellishments. A big comfortable brass bed and the bathroom was huge with a really really big soaking tub and a separate shower. The carpet was not in great condition, they should […] just get rid of it and have wood floors. The pillows weren't so great either. And parking can be difficult. But everything was clean and fluffy. Absolutely beautiful inside and out. Our room was amazing, the outdoors were beautiful, and a very quiet neighborhood in downtown Sacramento. Breakfast was wonderful, the staff gracious. Definitely recommended!

I know that this is a historic hotel but the carpet is in bad shape and the room was not very clean. Would have liked to have muffins or something for breakfast. The breakfast is too late if you have business or don't sleep in late. Staff was great and the grounds are very nice. great value and breakfast too!

The only thing that took some time was to get the hot water to the shower head. It is a very nice place and in an excellent location. Near to all downtown venues and restaurants. I'd definitely stay there again. I received an excellent rate also.

Never having stayed in a bed and breakfast for a business trip, this was truly a pleasant surprise. The grounds were very pretty and well maintained; the room was large and comfortable. This is an old charming hotel in a neighborhood of old Victorian homes. Great price for the room, very satisfied with the breakfast. We would definately stay there again.

If you love historic buildings then you would enjoy this old Victorian. The room was extremely large with antiques and very clean. However, the carpeting, walls, and furnishing had a good amount of wear but then it is a historic building. You ring the doorbell and someone answers the door to let you in. They register you at the entrance and then take […] you to your room. You are given two keys, one for your room and one for the front door. If there is a function or activity occurring on the property (#1 place in Sacramento to have your wedding)then parking can be a bit of a problem until 10 pm when the parking meters on the street are no longer enforced. The experience is like going to someone's home to stay but no one is around. It was different but if you are ok with staying in a bed and breakfast type of an environment, then you will probably enjoy it. It was very quiet and I liked that. The Vizcaya is a very nice bed and breakfast in a pleasant residential/retail neighborhood. The room itself was nice enough, but each room didn't have its own thermostat and to the best of my knowledge no air conditioning. Thus it became rather sweaty as the day heated. The room was small, but the bathroom was enormous with a large bathtub (unfortunately, the jacuzzi action did not work). Complimentary snacks and full breakfast at this hotel make it an even better deal.

I booked this Hotel for our Director and she was very pleased! Great room, great staff...she had nothing but positive feedback. We will book there again when ever we have something there.

The hotel was clean and our stay was outstanding. The full breakfast was nice and there was a variety of food to choose. The staff was very pleasant. I would recommend this hotel to others.

More like a bed and breakfast, for the price this hotel exceeded our expectations. It was a quick cab ride to Midtown, so very convenient as well.

This has the look and feel of a B&B but the modern convenience of a hotel. Nice place to stay during the week. Looks like a great place for a wedding on the weekend.

We stayed in this hotel for one night. The room was spacious and well furnished with complementary water and snacks. You don't have the feeling of staying in a hotel but more in a cozy inn or B&B as there are only 9 rooms. This is not your normal hotel!!! This is a very nice hotel for a couple looking to stay in someplace more home like. The people were great and extremely helpful! Good breakfast with excellent coffee. Very nice room, great tub with a strong shower and plenty of hot water! Shampoo/soaps selection was appreciated. While the host offered suggestions for dinner, menus from the area would have been helpful. Great restaurant within walking distance.
