Great location in front of the beach and next block from Copacabana Palace. But hotel really needs upgrades. Too old. Price too high for hotel condition. Good breakfast.

I love the location of the hotel....the staff was very nice and helpful...The rooms were oceanfront and big...The hotel was very "RETRO' a nice way to say old, but I will stay here again. The only thing I did not like was the fact that there was no hotel parking...in other words I was on my own when I had to park my car

Staff (specially Daniel) was great and extremely helpful. Location was perfect, not only is it right in front of the beach but is also conveniently located close to restaurants and night life. Rooms (I stayed at a room facing the ocean, which made for a great view of Copacabana beach) where spacious, however the decoration leaves something to be desire, […] the sofa in it was old and the bed was pretty hard. We did not mind much since we spend most of the time outside but with such a great location and service is unfortunate that their rooms are not in better condition. Breakfast was not abundant in its offering but it did have options and was good. They also provide towels and umbrellas for the beach. I traveled with my 2 girlfriends. 3 women stayed in this hotel. All of us are from Los Angeles, CA. The hotel is in a great location if you're only looking to stay close to the beach. Our hotel room overlooked the ocean which was amazing. It was wonderful to wake up to and it was close other hotels. However, if you're looking for more activity during […] the day on the beach, I recommend staying in Ipanema. But it's not necessary. If you're going to spend the day on the beach, you can take about a 30 min walk to Ipanema, hey you're on vacation, so you have the time. We enjoyed the walk. Also, turned out that this hotel was right next to a bar that looked to serve as a hub for call girls. No biggie for us, just would have been nice to know. The hotel is great, it was clean, the staff was friendly, and the Breakfast was really good. I you end up staying at this hotel, you won't be disappointed ( i was pleasantly surprised since I had read the reveiws before going). The hotel is right across Copacobana beach! As in you just need to cross the street. The hotel's a bit dated though, you could feel the age. And there were problems with the Cable TV during my stay here (but this is the cable tv provider's fault, not the hotel). But you just cant beat the location. And the room is HUGE! Hotel is very old and in need of serious internal upgrading. Great location and friendly staff that all spoke good english. Room was clean and all services worked but was very tired.

Check in was poor because there is only one staff, and he was busy handling a case where two men booked a room directly from the hotel website but the hotel was not able to find them a room. So we wait for long time. Breakfast is ok but not enough seats.

This was our 2nd visit at this hotel. We had a great experience during 2008 with an ocean front view near the top, BUT this time we were greatly disappointed. It's like we stayed at a different hotel! This time the hotel placed us at the bottom floor near the elevator. The room insulation was poor in that we could hear the elevator chime every time […] it opened. I could even hear the neighbors THROUGH THE WALLS!The front desk couldn't even move us to another room! We probably could have avoided this with an ocean front room, but this should not have to be the case. Every guest wants to have peace and quiet no matter where they stay. It also didn't help that the shower knobs were stuck and had to get fixed by maintenance. There were also a floor panel or two loose. Even worse was that the TV remote control had dead batteries! There were so many things going wrong that we thought we were getting Punk'd! There were some positives though. During the morning before we checked out, the breakfast was very nice, and the next shift manager was very polite in offering us umbrellas, towels, and looking after our bags even when we wanted to stay at the beach longer. So I am mixed in my review, yet still disappointed. The first day we arrived was pure hell, but the 2nd day customer service was better thanks to the different shift workers. I think we will take our chances with another hotel next time because I just can't afford to fly to far to Rio and risk ruining our vacation. Lisätietoja

Very good hotel for someone traveling on a moderate budget. Extremely well locate and well kept. Internet worked well (at some moderate cost). Good restaurants nearby and taxis available 24H.

Hotel is going through some much needed renovations. The rooms are very large although dated. Plenty of space to spread out with a living room and separate bedroom. Right on Copacabana Beach, you can't beat the location. Once their renovations are completed it will be a top notch place.

Other than the fact that the cold water were not working in the shower, and that I had a small cockroach in the toilets...it is an old outdated hotel that needs to be renovated.The stuff is very friendly and helpful and the location is great, but I would look for other options for this price

I travel the world and usually I am very generous in my reviews. That said...Very few people speak English (including the front desk) They charge 100 real ($50US) if you have a visitor..even for an hour for wine on the balcony. Of the 3 elevators...only 1 worked. The water never got hot. I never had to turn on the cold in the shower. They charge 5 Real […] for ice. I had ant like bugs for 2 days in my bathroom. The furniture and the room is from the '60"s. The hotel is right beside the beach, has the craft market beside it, has a good breakfast and the staff were helpful and spoke English. However the hotel room is one of the worst (for the cost) that I have ever stayed in (and I have travelled to over 40 countries and stayed in a variety of types of hotel). We recently stayed at the Lancaster in Rio.The location was perfect.The staff were helpful and friendly and spoke enough English to get by.They upgraded us to an ocean view without charging us extra.The breakfast was very good and had a good selection to choose from.I kept everything in my room and never had a problem.....I left with everything I came […] with.The maids did a good job with clean sheets and towels and we always had hot water.I would definately recommend this hotel. We were greeted well when we got to the hotel and happy with the room we did not pay for 5 star so we did not expect 5 star but overall it was clean and in a good position, The staff were very helpful we had trouble with our trips that we had booked and the staff helped us to sort it out. The only problem was there are no chairs or table on the balcony […] to sit and relax with a drink or book, for just a small cost they could supply these and it would make such a difference, and it could do with a lick of paint on the front of the hotel to blend in with the Copacabana palace hotel which is only 6 buildings away just by doing these two things could put the hotel a few placing up on the ladder. The staff was very helpful and spoke English. This was a good location for getting to any place in the city. The Metro is three blocks away and buses stop two blocks away. We were on the top floor (12) and there was very little warm water. Sometimes it did not come out at all. I would stay there again.

The hotel.com confirmation stated checkin was at 12 noon, the clerk just laughed when we showed him, and said it was wrong. The hotel is in a great location, but very badly in need of some updating. The sheets were clean, but the carpet, walls, bathroom etc felt dingy and were in poor shape. I would not stay at this property again.

The hotel is in great need of remodeling. The lighting in our room was poor. We preferred not to open the blinds because our room looked into the dilapidated buildings behind the hotel. There was mildew in the shower and we were afraid to shower without flip flops. The room was a good size as it included a sitting area but the beds were uncomfortable. […] This place felt more like a motel rather than a hotel. Pictures can be so deceiving. I stayed one night at this Hotel in November 2011 after staying at another hotel nearby the night before. The room at the Lancaster, while more expensive, was very unkempt with a door lock that literally fell out of the door as I inserted and turned the key to enter the room. The paint in the room was peeling off the walls and the bathroom was filthy […] with no hot water. While the location of the hotel overlooking Copacabana beach is very nice, it is not sufficient to justify the price for the room given that nearby hotels charge less and are much more appealing. This was my 2nd stay at this hotel. Hotel is right on Copacabana Beach about a block from the Copacabana Palace. The hotel is in a safe neighborhood with drugstores, coffee shops and restaurants nearby. Public transportation is easy to get to. Most tourist spots take just one bus. The location of the hotel is very good across the street from Copacabana Beach . We had a ocean view room the room did not look like the pictures on the internet it was bedroom only no sitting area, little tight in the room. convenient taxi stand outside the hotel. Hotel restaurant was only open for breakfast. Helpful, friendly, English speaking front desk staff. Room was old, but quite large. Nice view of ocean with balcony. Overall, a nice, fairly inexpensive hotel for the location that could use a little updating.

I took a group of Americans for a 2-night stay in Rio. I chose this hotel for the location, price and other reviews. It is an older hotel. But the staff was extremely friendly, spoke English and knew what busses to take around town. Breakfast was typical Brasilian with breads, yogurt, eggs, sausage. I had to call them to come clean my room, the hot water didn't work for a morning, but the staff was really helpful resolving issues, gave me lots of good advice on what to do with my spare time, etc., they upgraded me to a 12th floor facing the beach for no extra cost. I would recommend it.

I am not really a fan of the copacabana area but was only in town for 1 night for a meeting on Copacabana so booked into the lancaster othon. i checked in early, manager didn't bat an eyelid. The porter, i think his name was Daniel, grabbed my bags and whisked them to my room. Elevators felt a bit old but maintained so didnt worry too much. Corridors […] were sweltering but room had AC unit so no problems really. Room was small but had all i needed, bed, shower, TV. Free upgrade to Ocean view was a sweet touch too. Breakfast was typical brazilian fare so no complaints. fresh bread and fruit. I went to my meeting and was late checking out, again management were VERY understanding. Only complaint is not the hotels fault at all. A nearby bar seems to be the place working girls ply their trade. This is an excellent location if you are on vacation but a little more difficult if you are traveling on business. The computer area is good but does not have a printer so if you need to print directions, boarding passes or information, it is not possible. The breakfast is excellent, staff speaks english very well and is very helpful with local information. […] I was impressed by the quality of the breakfast and even met the nutritionist who was checking temps of the food on the buffet. Fruit was fresh and plentiful, breads were home made and delicious. The room was comfortable but dated, I did have a separate sitting room and bedroom with queen size bed, pillows were small but comfortable. If you can, get the ocean front, these rooms have a spectacular view. Bathroom was also dated but nice shower with lots of hot water. They do not provide wash cloths, so bring your own. There is a taxi stand almost in front of the hotel which has taxis 24/7, this is really convenient as you never have to call a cab, just go out front. The booking qualifications that are listed here are not met by the hotel. Checkin is not as stated. Internet is not free, as stated. Double rooms are merely two twin beds pushed together, very uncomfortable. Breakfast is standard, but nothing super special. The location is decent but nothing worth putting up with the poor quality and high price.

The Lancaster Othon Travel is relatively inexpensive in comparison to other hotels in Rio. The hotel is in a nice location on the beach in Copacabana, the hotel staff is friendly, the rooms are nice, big and clean. The free hotel breakfast is very good. On the downside however: * They didn't have free wifi like they stated in the website * Because […] its an aging hotel the elevators sometimes don't work. I got stuck in an elevator for 15 minutes by myself. * The bathrooms sometimes don't work. The bathroom overflooded during my stay and the bathtub leaked, so everytime I got out of the shower there was a puddle of water on the floor. * Also, make sure to bring your own hair dryer. and upon entering our hotel room, our impression was 'this is great'. That impression remained throughout our 8-day stay at Lancaster Othon. The thought of our Copacabana beach view stays with us to this day. The staff was friendly and helpful and the front desk personnel spoke English when my Portuguese failed me, which was often! The breakfast buffet […] was great - something for everyone; eggs, rolls/breads, cakes, cereal, great fresh fruit, cold meats, yogurt, juices, coffee/tea. We often didn't eat after breakfast until dinner. Location was great as, of course, it's right across the street from the beach. Also, it was a few blocks from the metro and a few blocks from buses that serviced the whole city. A good selection of restaurants up and down Av. Atlantico. There are also numerous gift/souvenir shops nearby. Everything was very good and we had a great time.
