Catamaran Resort and Spa - San Diego

My family really enjoyed the tropical atmosphere, calm surroundings of this hotel. The staff was friendly and the the hotel is very kid friendly. My kids loved to go see the ducks, fish and birds as soon as they got up every morning. The location is also great, close to tons of restaurants, the beach, the bay, sea World, downtown, etc.

Stayed just the one night while I was down in San Diego. I made the reservations more then a month in advance for one room with king sized bed and one room with double beds. They gave us two double bed rooms instead. They did work to get my companions the king sized bed I requested and confirmed in my reservation but they wound up putting us on different […] floors. My room was ok. It seemed like it was for someone with a small family as it came with a 1950's stove, a toaster, microwave and a fridge. That was nice because it kept the drinks I had cold all night without going down several floors to the only ice machine in the building. The bed was comfortable, and the room was clean. The door to the balcony was broken, as the latch would not raise the catch on the door and you had to manually pull it off to open the door to have your view of the parking garage outside your room. The clock in the room was broken, it ran fast, and you could not correct the time, or change the alarm. The decor was not bad. The overall look of the place was very nice, and it is right on the water like they promised. Overall, it was an average hotel. The little things needed to be better, but it served its purpose. This was our 1st time @ Catamaran and were amazed about how great the location is (if you are going to SD to spend time on the beach). You can see the lifeguard tower on Mission Beach from the front enterence to hotel and are a < 10 min walk to the Crystal Pier on Pacific Beach. Lots of cool shops and small surfer bars everywhere. My wife and son loved our stay here. The room was older, but large and kept up very nicely. We enjoyed the large pool and hot tub. The environment was simply beautiful. If I ever go back to the San Diego area, I will make sure to stay here again.

We had an excellent time at the Catamarran. It is a beautiful resort. We were a bit concerned at first because we went with our two younger boys and we did not want them to be lound or disturb other visitors, and when we first drove up we thought it might be too fancy for a family trip. But there were many other families with young children, and it […] was a very fun atomosphere for kids with ducks and birds everywhere. The hotel was nestled between Misson Bay and the ocean (only a block away), so we spent all of our time at the beach or walking the boardwalk. Checking into the Catamaran Resort and Spa in San Diego was more difficult than it should have been. Since there are only four parking spaces available for "Registration" that always seemed to be occupied and the circle drive at the hotel entrance was also usually occupied with vehicles, finding a place to park was difficult The remaining spaces that […] are available near the loby entrance are labeled for "Valet only". Don't let me be misunderstood, there is plenty of parking at the hotel behind a gated entrance which is available for a fee of $13.00 per night that I did not see documented on the site. After dragging our bags into the lobby to register, I was asked to fill out a form with all ot the information that I had already provided on the web site. I was then instructed to drive around and park in the parking structure. Since there was no offer for assistance with our luggage, we dragged our bags back outside and drove around to the back where the parking structure was located. It does not appear that there was an elevator that serviced the parking structure, we had to carry our lugage down the stairs of the parking structure. The rooms were clean and well kept. But the hallways to the room was dark and worn. Normal activities in the adjoining room were easily heard. Some normal conveniences like soda machine and ice machines were located on the first floor. We stayed at the Catamaran because we were chaperon's for our daughters' high school formal held at the resort. We live less than 30 miles away and it ended up being the perfect venue for their formal event and a great place for us to relax and enjoy a successful event. The room was very comfortable and the sitting on the balcony off our room made for […] a perfect view of the bay. We enjoyed a fabulous dinner in the hotel restaurant. fantastic location and you don't need a car! I already had one rented and only used 1/4 tank because we walked every where or rented bikes or took the trolly. The grocery was in walking distance as well as the beach. Parking is $13 a day so add that to your expenses. the bus can even get you to sea world and the padras games and to the zoo..... the […] hotel grounds were wonderful and so much fun for kids. great pool and you can walk across the street to the ocean or just out the back door to the bay beach where you can rent bikes and boats and play volleyball. room service food was good and the spa is so fabulous you have to go! the down side to the hotel is the actual room. VERY VERY outdated and not the place you want to spend your time. everything is old including the towels and the bed is incredibly hard and uncomfortable. they need to do some serious remodeling of the actual room. if you are a couple looking for a romantic get away and staying in your room ..... not the place you want to be. great for family and children of all ages. if you have two parent family make sure you give each other a break and go to the spa while the other watches the kids. the restaurant is a bit overpriced so make sure you ask for a microwave Lisätietoja

We found the resort last minute on Hotels.com and did not know much about it. What a pleasant surprise!!! The grounds were so beautiful, the staff was very accomodating, and being right on the harbor so the family could enjoy beach activities right out our door was great too! The resort was beautiful inside and out, liked the location 1 block from pacific beach, room was nice, lobby and sitting areas beautiful. Things I did not like, parking $13, curbs were not stroller friendly.

Great location and amenities

Really happy w/ our stay at the Catamaran. Hotel was booked because of a conference, we had book online thru hotels.com and they provided us w/ a free upgrade to beachside room w/ extra room. Last minute request for a crib was met within 15 minutes. Check-in staff very accommodating. Pool and hot tub are nice and the kids had a blast. Extra perk for […] kiddies: free arcade room! The Catamaran is close to where my daughter lives in Pacific Beach. It is close to the beach, has excellent dining nearby and what's not to love about visiting San Diego?

Very nice hotel. Beautiful pathways & gardens throughout. Location is great. Many restaurants in walking distance. I-Hop for breakfast was a great way to start the day. This is a wonderful resort and spa. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Close to the beach. Easy acess to rentals and good recomendatios from conciere desk for scenic locations to visit.

Our room had an amazing view of the bay which was great and t he kids loved that. The hotel in general was older and not in as great of shape as I expected. We had a huge bug in our room which set the tone for the stay. However, the overall hotel offers a lot for kids and is not bad if you are looking for things to keep them busy.

Unique tropical setting, manicured grounds, Exotic birds & fish, great views from my 12th floor bay/ocean view. Walking distance to everything. All the amenities. I will stay there again.

We loved our stay at the Catamaran. Beautiful place. Service was excellent. Room was perfect. Our room was next to the koi pond. We visited with the ducks and Lacy he black swan. It was our first wedding anniversary. We will not forget it and we will be back.

Our stay was wonderful. The only complaint we have is that the double beds are too small for 2 adults. 2 queens make better sense for a family of 4.

Amazing bayside view across from Sea World

this hotel was great. it had a really great location. we went to san diego with our 2 boys, 2 yr. old and a 4 yr. old. they had so much fun. we rented a sailboat and bikes right on the hotel bay. we were walking distance to the beach right across the street, and they offered complimentary boat rides in the evening for us and the kids. it was really […] nice. we were pleasantly surprised when we found that our room also came with a kitchen. and we were able to enjoy some time alone on the balcony over looking the bay and the firework show from sea world. The hotel is in good locatio in the bay and a couple blocks from the beach. It is a litle bit old but well maintain and provide good service. The housekeeping team is friendly and detail oriented. If you stay on the tower the elevators are to slow. In overall a good experience.

A great location on the Bay and close to Mission Beach. After spending a day on Mission Beach, coming across the street to the hotel was a welcome relief - quiet, comfortable.

We wanted to visit San Diego for 2 days and stay in resort for 2 days , I wished I stayed 3 days instead. There is a kid program in resort with Parrots, Parakeets and Koi fish ponds, wood duck and cute duckling families, and a pool , all exciting for my 8years old. Great hotel location close to beach and just next to the laguna. Stayd at the Tower. OK room, cleaning not good and rooms need and update.

I really enjoyed the Catamaran. We stayed in a studio room in the tower, and it was excellent. The grounds were also wonderful, as was the view, and the location is perfect: on the bay, two blocks from the beach, and easy walking distance to many restaurants. I am already eager to go back next summer!

The best part of this resort is the grounds, which are lush and tropical. There are many little ponds and streams stocked with fish, and a number of tiny ducklings. The drawback of this hotel is the price, especially the price of the restaurant. The location is excellent. Perfect location and accommodations for our family. I loved the kitchenette ~ which helps so much when you're traveling with small children. Also loved the small balcony ~ which allowed a fantastic sea breeze into our room.

Close to everything you need: food, on the bay and the ocean was across the street.

this hotel has it all. Close to the bay and the ocean beaches. Close to attractions like Sea World, Navy Pier, USS Midway Museum and Crystal Pier.

While the hotel's promotional photos and videos try to promote a hip, Hawaiian style resort, in reality it's just a tired, overgrown old place that's feels worn-out. Families or couples attracted to an upscale, tropical resort will also be disappointed by the surrounding, run-down surfer village of Pacific Beach.

Our first room was the lowest price offered and we were put in a room that overlooked the top floor of the parking lot. That room wasn't worth even the price offered. When we called down to the front desk about upgrade availability, we were put into an awesome suite that walked right out to the beach (the extra price was worth it even though it was […] 40+% higher). I LOVE THE FEELING I'M AT A TROPICAL RESORT.

Our recent stay at the Catamaran Resort was pleasant overall, but there were some concerns regarding the management of the hotel. First of all, my wife and I were there to enjoy the last weekend of summer: Labor Day weekend. The hotel was full of guests. Service at the retaurants was exceedingly slow at all three meals. When we asked the staff what […] was going on, their reply was that management had cut back on staff. Why on earth would you cut staff before one of your busiest weekends? Well, we shrugged that off. Our last day there we decided to layout by the pool and enjoy the ambience and pool bar before our trip home. We waited for the bar to open to no avail. In addition, the pool attendant that had been there all weekend handing out towels was nowhere to be found and instead of the nice green & white striped towels that had been handeding out, they had a stack of cheap white bath towels. Finally, my wife went to the front desk to inquire about all this and was told by the manager: "We didn't staff the pool area today because Sunday was the end of the weekend." Well, as far back as I can remember 3-day holiday weekends end after the third day, not the second!
