"AVOID this place!"
We had issues with this place from the get go. The room wasn't in good shape, and it had obviously not been well cleaned. Our just walking baby pulled a drawer open and it was filled with a previous guest's socks. The room overall was falling apart and the tv was not connected properly, making the picture go fuzzy if anyone walked by it. We also checked […] out a day early, and the manager flat out lied when spoken to about our check out time, probably in order to avoid giving out a refund. "close and afordable"
The rooms were clean and comfortable. The exterior of the building is starting to show need of tlc. Noisy do to proximity to the highway which is pretty hard to avoid. Staff was good, breakfast was good.
This is an older hotel but our room was fine. The bath towels were pretty thin. The room had an older microwave and fridge but they worked fine. There was a small table that you could eat at. Entrance to the rooms is from the outside walkway.

An older hotel, a little rough on the outside, but very clean and well maintained. People were friendly. A good value for the price, and close to the main part of town for a nice walk.

"It is what it is"
the walls were paper thin and the room was a little spartan, but we slept like babies and got to walk around Leavenworth for cheap. So, all in all, win. If the neighbors had been watching loud movies all night, though, it would have been an issue.

My family and I stayed overnight to enjoy the delightful Bavarian town of Leavenworth in December. We chose Howard Johnson because it was reasonably priced even in December at the height of the Christmas rush. We found the room and location clean and quiet. Breakfast includes waffles, cereal, light pastry, bananas, apples, oranges, juices and milk in a small conference room by the outside elevator and the under the hotel parking lot. "Adequate lodging in Leavenworth"
It was a decent place to stay. The hotel is showing a lot of wear and could use some sprucing. The carpet in the elevator is pretty undesirable and should be replaced; it smelled of mildew. Yet an outdoor elevator is obviously going to be more dirty than one you'd find inside. However, the room itself, other than also being rather worn - the carpet […] was fraying, etc - felt clean and it was relatively comfortable. Breakfast was a bit meager, but for the price, it was a good deal and I would stay there again if I were looking for something in that price range. The room was your standard 1970's to 1980's vintage hotel room. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were basic but spacious. Parking leaves a liffle to be desired. The under the hotel stalls were narrow and the outside stalls were under the drip line of the balconies which attracts lots of cigarette butts and ashes. "Great for the Price!"
This is the third time I have been to this location and I will continue staying here on my Leavenworth trips. Rooms are large and clean. Beds are a bit on the firm side by comfortable. The continental breakfast was really good (most hotels continental breakfasts I have gone to are ineatable). "A nice place to sleep."
We stayed here over the weekend, and it was an alright place to sleep. It's not the fanciest by any means, but it was quiet, and clean, which are both pretty important. Our only complaints really would be what seems to be a pretty late check in time of 3:00pm. We called to see if it was possible to check in earlier, and the person said they would make […] a note of it. We arrived early, and the front desk clerk saw the note, but she said she couldn't guarantee it would be ready by 3...which is their check in time. Who knows. The pool was nice, but could use a nice thorough scrubbing on the bottom of it. The only other oddity was there's no one in the lobby after 9pm I think. You have to go next door to the other hotel. To me that makes no sense at all. Why isn't this place staffed 24/7? The breakfast they provided in the morning was nice. Had a good assortment of breakfast items to choose from. "Conveniently located"
The hotel is right when you first come into town. The parking is convenient and covered, and the continental breakfast was acceptable. The only problem I had is my bed was sagging down on one side, which was slightly uncomfortable. Room was so-so, what you'd expect from a moderately priced hotel chain.

THE PLACE IS POORLY IDENTIFIED. THERE IS A HOWARD JOHNSON SIGN BUT NOTHING THAT IDENTIFIEDS IT AS AN EXPRESS INN. THE REGISTRATION OFFICE IS DIFFICULT TO FIND. THE CARPET IN THE ROOM WAS OLD AND FILTY. THE FAN IN THE BATHROOM IN THE AJOINING ROOM WAS SO NOISY THAT I COULD NOT SLEEP. IT ALSO VIBRATED SO VIOLENTLY THAT IT CARRIED INTO MY ROOM AS WELL. This is a nice hotel. The breakfast is okay. the biscuits our really dryed out. I started using bread for the biscuits and gravy. that tasted much better. 3 diffrent dry cereals. bread, waffles, pastries. that is about it for the breakfast. the view from your room is very nice. one thing is it is right on the highway. so if you open your window the […] traffic noise can be really loud. you get a lot of traffic through there. it was nice to have air conditioning in the room when it got to hot. the tv has no guide so you our stuck going from channel to channel trying to find something on. there is an hbo guide. if you get the free paper it only has a guide for 8pm at night. otherwise the hotel was nice to stay in. if I go back will stay at a diffrent hotel. This hotel is in poor condition and needs to be updated. The carpet in the room was nasty and the bathtub was nasty as well. Very disappointed that it had the Howard Johnson name because that is why I stayed there. Won't stay here again.
"Where's the office?!"
I got to the motel in early evening and checked in, got the room keys. My husband came late at night. All lights outside the office were turned off. The office was locked and dark, because the management goes to the neighboring motel after hours (I knew this because I checked in earlier). My husband did not know this, and he walked around the outside […] of the motel for over an hour, trying to find some way to get into the building or at least find the office. "Not for the snobby"
This hotel was great for what we used it for, a place to sleep. I tis not the most refined hotel in all of Leavenworth, but, if all you are looking for is a place to sleep while you are there, there is no better than this for the price and location. We were not expecting the Ritz at this price, just a clean place to sleep in a convenient location...that is just what we got. The room was clean, not the most comfortable bed, but was fine. "Great place to stay on a budget"
We had ten of us staying two nights in Leavenworth, and we didn't want to spend a lot. Howard Johnson not only allowed us five people per room, but they also had a roll-away bed for one of the rooms that helped a great deal. It also helped our pocketbook immeasurably that breakfast was free. This is not the place to go if you are looking for a high-end […] experience. There are a lot of guests and vehicles crammed into very limited space - in fact, when the hotel is full, parking can be difficult. But some of it is covered, from the snow, which is better than some of the higher end lodging closer to town. The room was clean, had very comfortable beds (except the rollaway, which we put a child on,) and there was space for all the luggage. They had a small fridge and microwave which also cut down on costs. Probably my favorite thing was the heat - it was cold when we stayed, but not in our room. In fact, even on some of the lower settings, the room stayed extremely warm. We had to turn it off at night because it was so warm. The cable channels were also a pleasant surprise - many hotel chains are getting rid of some of the channels to save money, but they had all of my kids' favorites. Some down sides - I would have preferred having more space to park my car - the vehicles are crammed in so tight that it is tough to get in and out of the vehicle. And additonal spaces would have been nice, but they did well with what they had. The front desk closes at 9pm, making it necessary to go to the next property over if you have any business needing attention after that. The indoor pool was also located at the hotel next door, which has the same owner. But from what I was told, people staying there were paying more. I also prefer motels in which you can enter the room from an inside corridor, but this one had no inside hallways. Great location. Right in town and close to shops and park for sledding. Comes with breakfast which is nice for families. Service is lacking there. When I arrived, most of the lamps in my room were not plugged in. In my father's room, one of the lamps or outlets was not working. While my room was cleaned during the day, the others in our party who were […] also gone during the day did not get their room cleaned. Not great communication between people at the front desk such that when I arrived after 6 hours of driving I was told that I had no reservation and had to do some footwork to find my room and get a key. "Howard Johnson in Leavenworth - Ok for motel"
We knew that a cheap motel price meant expectations should be sober for what we were getting. When we arrived, the parking spots were EXTREMELY narrow. We had to get all the people/luggage out of the car before parking it because we couldn't get out if we parked with the spacing-and this wasn't the fault of the adjacent cars; there was just small spaces. […] Check in was pleasant and cozy. The staff were extremely friendly and it really made it feel like a warm small town. Getting to the room is a bit frustrating as there is only one elevator in the middle of the hotel that serves the 3 floors. No big deal, those are the kinds of things we expected. The walkways on each of the floor levels are very narrow. When the cleaning maids are out in their carts (which was quite often), it made getting by difficult, especially with a baby stroller or anything else large. The beds were comfortable and everything was neat and clean in the rooms. Very happy with that. They don't have an indoor pool onsite, but they do have one at the next building down that is made available to guests of the HoJo. We didn't feel like walking through the snow 50 yards to get there, so we passed up on that offer. We had a good nights sleep, and were getting ready the next morning when the maids walked in on us without knocking...bad form there. Also, and this is my biggest complaint, there was NO HOT WATER for showers! My wife apparently got a warm shower, but I had a 55-60-degree shower at best. This is not ok when the weather outside is 20 and snowing. I shivered and then got out as quickly as possible after cleaning. Other than that, I would come back again. Nice little quaint spot. We arrived on a Friday evening by train from Seattle with our grandson for an early November adventure. Though a bit away from the center of the town, the walk proved fun and gave us an opportunity to see things we have not seen on previous visits. "No complaints with this hotel"
We have stayed at this hotel before. We have no complaints. They use the best shower rod and curtain; it does not float in and stick to you while showering. We would stay at this hotel again.
"Very Disappointing"
I was expecting a nice rewarding experience at this hotel but was very disappointed as was my wife. The condition of the building & room was adequate but have seen Motel 6's in better conditon. The room had a portable heater in the room. The bed was really well worn and uncomfortable, felt like I was sleeping in a rut. The toilet rocked back and forth […] and was not secure to the floor. The refridgerator made noises that kept me up so I had to turn it off. The maintenance personnel smoked cigarettes outside of their rooms and did not maintain a distance recommended by state laws. The hotel was conveniently located. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. My only dissatifaction was with the cleanliness. There was a dirty towel hanging in the bathroom upon our arrival.
The Howard Johnson in Leavenworth was clean & confortable for our overnight stay August 22. Beds were nice & the staff was friendly. The only problem was the shower went cold then hot several times during both the wifes and my shower. Other than that our stay was very good. I would recommend this hotel for its value & location.
