Grand Royal Lagoon - Cancun

Great placement: walking distance away from Hotel party zone and buses to downtown go just by. Amazingly cheap!

Everything very cheap, 10 minutes from nightlife clubs, very close to shops and bus stops to downtown and main attractions, near ferry for Isla Mujeres, friendly people. For the price u are paying u cannot pretend more.

air conditioner not working and too much noise from next room

I enjoyed my stay. The people there are really friendly and helpful, the rooms are simple but nice and clean. About a 10 min walk to the beach.

I liked very much this hotel, I stayed here 3 nights after a Congress. It's a quiet clean budget hotel with all the basic needs: peaceful environment, comfortable bed, shower in room, supermarket nearby, kind personnel, air cooling system. No breakfast.

worst stay we ever had

I stayed at the grand royal lagoon for three weeks in february. Could not have had a better time. After our taxi driver stopped twice to ask other taxi drivers if they knew where this hotel was while circling the area of some very nice hotels, we parked in front of a small rundown building on a dirty side street. Features: outdoor pool (too small to do much in, too deep for little ones), a/c (worked well, in our room at least), an outdoor snackbar […] overlooking...a lagoon, and frienly enough staff who spoke enough English to deal with. Stayed 3 nights at the Grand Royal Lagoon from Jan 11 to Jan 14, 2012. Great view at night from the garden across the lagoon. Rooms are very clean but beds are hard and the fixtures (i.e. sink in the bathroom) are worn. Location is easy walking distance to shops and bigger hotels and the beach on the hotel strip. Cheap hotel to stay, but the location is not so good, you have to walk 10-15 min to the action area or take a bus. The room we stayed was good except the noise from outside was really clear.

Pros - Relatively Cheap, so-so location (10-15 min walk to street where are all the clubs are, bus stop 2-3 min away from hotel, NOT in a shady area though!) Cons - Bed bugs!! Toilet did not flush properly - a guy came and 'fixed' it but we didn't notice much of an improvement, very little hot water available, cannot use (very small) pool after 9 pm, […] so called in-hotel cafe not so appealing, 15-20 min bus ride from the major beaches. Wouldn't bother staying anywhere else in Cancun. Only here for one night but it was decent enough, good value and the breakfast was great (and in a great outdoor location overlooking the lagoon).

If you want to really save the money then it is okey otherwise i would recommend something better than this.

I stayed at this hotel for almost a month, and found it to be perfect for my needs. It's pretty quiet, with a nice clean pool and a little bar. It's 15mins walk from Cancun's main clubs (Coco Bongo etc.), with buses running regularly along the Hotel Zone or downtown for 7 or 8 pesos There's a small shopping strip just around the corner, with a great […] sandwich place, supermarket and laundromat. The room is cleaned daily, and comes with air conditioning, cable TV, a safe and a fridge. The bed was kind of hard, but that really seems to be a theme all through Mexico. Staff are friendly and helpful, and they mostly speak at least a little bit of English. While I was there, the cistern on my room's toilet broke and flooded the bathroom, but I simply told reception and it was fixed and cleaned up within an hour and a half. Obviously it isn't anything like the five-star all-inclusives further down the Hotel Zone, but if you're not the kind of person who needs to be pampered 24/7 and would rather roam Cancun during the day, this is the place for you. The place seems more like a motel than hotel. Room service is good. Breakfast is ok but the servers only spoke Spanish. One receptionist was great the other was horrible. the smell of the hotel was so bad that we came put our staf in 10 at night and go back from the party at 3 in the morning and we left him we coud'nt stay there

Located right off the Main drag you can jump on the bus ($8mx) to get into the crowds of tourists and shops in Cancun's Zona Hotelera. Quiet, safe, really clean, air-conditioned rooms with a refreshing pool. Lovely. They have a small, convenient bar on site and it much cheaper than to go to the stores. Around the corner from a coffee shop, mexican breakfast/lunch […] spot and a grocery market. The hotel staff are extremely helpful and genuinely kind and courteous. The staff at the hotel was extremely helpful, we never had to ask more than once for anything we needed. The room was free through a promotion and was used for out honeymoon, It is not a hotel we would have booked for something as important as a honeymoon but the service was excellent. Convenient, friendly, cheap and much better than some of the other, more expensive hotels nearby (I stayed at 2 other slightly more expensive hotels nearby and was much more satisfied with this one). Nice bar and resident crocodile!

It was a good cheap and small hotel. It was only 15min walking distance from the Congo Room area and Hard Rock Cafe. It was within my budget at the time. The hotel staff was great!!!. K

Very basic hotel, polite staff, good for those people on a budget. Very good price and location is great. Very close to bus stop, walking distance to grocery. Good for people like us who just needs a bed/room to sleep in and change then explore the city. Not much amenities. Has a small swimming pool that will entertain the kids.

The Hotel was actually pretty nice for the price that I ended up having to pay. Room was pretty nice, older furniture and fixtures but in descent shape, Pool looked nice and was cleaned daily. I use to live in Cancun 3 years ago and i was wondering how was this hotel .This hotel is look the same as an local hotel but his one is in the Hotel tourist Zone. Cheap food, cheap beer, everything very close. laundry, market, souvenir, club etc by walk distance. Staff is friendly when you tip good ! You pay for what you have. It was a saturday night, during spring break, and I needed a clean room for the night before going to the airport in the morning. It was clean, no bugs, and the breakfast included with the price made it. The ceiling in the bedroom was leaking pretty bad, and he showed me it when I got there. If I was using it for a vacation hotel, no way.

Super friendly staff. Near the bus stop or about a mile walk to the main bar scene with Coco Bongos, Carlos and Charlie's, DadyO, Bulldog, Hard Rock, ect. On the lagoon side, so no beach, but the main public beach near all the bars was very nice. I would definitely stay here again as I felt very safe in the area and the price was fantastic.

For first time travelers out of the country, it was just what we needed to enjoy the whole experience. It was so enjoyable and relaxing, my 11-year-old son and I had the time of our lives. When we left Cancun, we then stayed at an all inclusive resort in Cozumel, don't get me wrong it was very nice, but we had a much better time at the Grand Royal Lagoon. […] It was reasonably priced and the staff was very pleasant, my son even made friends with one gentleman there, he assisted my son in cracking open his coconut he found. We never had fresh coconut before it was delish. During our stay we enjoyed being close enough to all of the local shopping and activities, yet, far enough away to absorb the weather and experience. The first room that we were given was at the front of the hotel and had more than a few leeks in the room with water dripping onto the bed. I went down to reception to complain and they moved us to another room, this was OK. Maybe this is just what happens when you prepay for your hotel room. We can only comment on our room, other rooms were not available for us to change or upgrade. Our room was facing the road and the water pump pressure system for the hotel. This combination made our room fairly noisy. The air conditioner would have been noisy in all the rooms because they were a window version. The American breakfast was confined to […] two choices, scrambled eggs or pancakes, either one was not very good. The internet connection was very poor, were we would have to go to the lobby or pool area to get an acceptable connection. The bed was a king size, but had a very poor mattress. The good news was that the small outdated rooms were kept clean daily. This room was very reasonably priced and in the end we got what we paid for. Shabby. Door key to our room didn't work. Hard bed. Good home cooked breakfast included. Glad we were only here 1 night before we moved to the beautiful Moon Palace.

This hotel was really nice. The room was clean and were cleaned daily. The staff was really nice and spoke English. It was in a quiet neighborhood. Check in time is at 2pm and it is strictly enforced.

We stayed for one night before catching a flight back to US. It was OK.

We scoured the web for good rates over New Year's. Most of the all-inclusives right on the beach were out of our range, but this place was a short walk away and super-cheap. The ceilings were a bit dusty, the tiled floors looked a little grimy (they could do with a bit of Tilex), and the beds were a bit hard, but none were serious turn-offs for the budget traveler. The bathroom was clean enough, and the shower was seriously hot and strong. All of our needs were met by the friendly hotel staff. The included breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs with bacon, some toast, and a few slices of fruit. The rest of the menu was mediocre. It's a short walk from the more prestigious all-inclusive resorts in the Hotel Zone. Really not out of the way at all. The surrounding neighborhood is a bit quiet, but not at all dangerous.
