One small caveat was the hidden fees associated with the valet parking which should have been combined so the price of parking is clear at the outset ($43 for parking plus "garage tax" of $7--just say parking is $50!). Decided to spend a little more money and stay at a nice hotel close to the Mall. Was defintely worth it. Very nice and helpful staff, and the room, though it was the cheapest one, was really nice. booked and payed for a junior suite. The suite they put us in had pipes that were so loud running next to the bed all night. couuld not sleep. asked to change rooms and got moved to a handicap standard room right next to the service elevators that they use all night. never got moved back or even offered to move me to a suite throughout our stay. Also […] check in is at 3 pm and our room was not ready until 4:30 pm. Not at all impressed with their customer service skills. will not be returning to that hotel. "Fine hotel, well-placed for DC"
The hotel is well situated, less than a quarter-mile from the White House, 15-20-minute walk to the Washington Monument, the Holocaust Memorial Museum, and maybe 30 minutes to the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. The McPherson Square Metro station is less than two short blocks away.There is a very good Italian restaurant a block away, a Pret a Manger […] and two Starbucks close by. There are a pricey restaurant and bar in the hotel. Our room was large, comfortable, well supplied--except there was no coffee maker. One has to go down to the bar in the morning for complimentary coffee. The bathroom was large and featured a bath and separate shower. The king-sized bed featured down pillows and a great duvet. We were pleased to find that the hotel was clean. The staff was extremely friendly, going above and beyond to accommodate our stay. The front desk manager sent a personal note to our room with complimentary evian and dessert upon learning of a birthday of one of our guests. The Sofitel is typically great. Whatever the reason - this stay was not. The hot water ran out on my room (#222) each morning.... The internet was slow-as-molassas - so much so I couldn't effectively work. Late night blasting radio music on one night preventing me from sleeping, and greatly affecting my effectiveness the following day. "The best hotel I've ever stayed in"
I honestly cannot think of a single thing about my stay at the Sofitel Washington DC that wasn't exceptional. Clean room, modern comfortable bathroom, comfortable bed, friendly staff, large LCD TV in the room, and well priced for a luxury hotel in the middle of the city.
