Hampton Inn Santa Cruz - Santa Cruz

Hotel was okay, but the location (especially if you have very young kids) was not okay. There were a lot of transients in the parking lot, which made us very uncomfortable when coming back at night. They were also blocking the precious few parking spaces.

Great front desk, nice free breakfast, no gym but you can go to Gold's Gym for free a mile away, room is modern and clean. IHOP or Denny's next door is convenient. Not close to beach - 15 minute drive, but right off the freeway, near many interchanges.

What a restful night!! It was such a welcome relief to find a hotel that was perfect after a long day's drive. The staff was so courteous and welcoming, easy to ask for references for places to eat, sights to see. Loved this hotel. I would stay again. Well priced and great location.

Expensive for what it is. In a marginal neighborhood. Convenient to the highway. But it was clean.

I found the staff working extra hard to be accommodating and polite. My bed was comfortable. I would have been happy if the rug had been cleaned as I like to walk around barefoot. My actual problem is with hotels.com. When I made the reservation, I asked about an ocen view. They told me the hotel didn't charge extra for an ocean view. The hotel is no where near the coast line as far as a view is concerned. So my suggestion is to call the hotel directly to find out how close they are to the ocean. Convenient location, comfortable rooms. Friendly and helpful staff. Get down to breakfast early as eating area is small and gets crowded.

My 2 friends and I were made very welcome, and given very helpful info about the locality (especially restaurant info) by the staff member who was on duty when we arrived.

I'm a new SF resident and I was excited to stay here with my boyfriend while on a little getaway outside of the city for my birthday. I ended up having to take him to the hospital before we were going to leave, and I called the Hampton to tell them that I was going to have to cancel because of an emergency. Now, I totally understand the 24 hour cancellation […] rule and wouldn't mind just paying for the room, but the way it went about upset me. They rudely interrupted me and unprofessionally asked what had happened to him and why I had to take him to the hospital, and when I said it was a personal issue, she scoffed at me over the phone. I asked if there was any way that they could simply move the reservation to a later date, and I would pay a fee if need be, and they said they weren't able to, and I had to pay full price for the room without staying there.
