We rented a room at this hotel for one night, during labor day weekend, because it was the closest & cheapest hotel near the Mezzanine. We were impressed with how unique & interesting the interior was decorated- very retro. The rooms were nice & comfy- but no AC, which didn't really bother us. the hotel had to be crowded but I didn't really hear anyone […] around too much, although most of our time was spent outta the room. When we made the reso through hotel.com hotline the girl made sure that they would that room to park our 14' truck and trailer. She recommended that we call the day before to remind them just in case. We did and the girl at the front assured me that she would let the valet know to leave enough space for us. After driving for 14 hours from Phoenix to […] San Fran the valet was shocked when we pulled up and said, "I wish you guys had let someone know you were coming." Wow. Super annoying. After 30 minutes of trying to get the thing parked he suggested we take as much stuff as possible up to our room. Are you serious?? It's a 14' trailer full of our stuff. He suggested that, at the very least, we move the items in the car to the UHaul so that the windows don't get broken out. We'd noticed an a lot of homeless on our way in, but that's went I realized the neighborhood was FULL of straight up CRACK HEADS!!!! Two other hotel employees reminded us that they were not responsible for goods stolen from the parking lot. When we got the the rooms they were mostly clean and the room was actually really cute. I guess if you don't have a car it's awesome, which if you are just vacationing you don't need a car at all. The public transportation is great. We stayed at this hotel because it was the departure hotel for our trek in Western USA. We arrived blearly eyed from London late on a Friday afternoon and, having booked a family room, were allocated 2 rooms. We asked if this was correct and were assured that it was as that was the allocation on the system. We thought nothing of this as we had booked […] Family Rooms in the past and been allocated two twins pretty frequently. The rooms were clean and comfortable but that was probably the best it got! Having gone out for dinner we came back around 9pm and went to bed. There was a lot of noise in the hotel, quite a lot of shouting and general noise - largely of suitcase wheels etc. About Midnight both rooms received calls from the front desk asking if we had ordered pizza as there was a delivery but the delivery guy wasn't sure who had actually ordered. We hadn't and weren't happy to be disturbed. One room got a second call about pizza 20 minutes later even though it was clear we still hadn't ordered any. About 1:30am the phone rang again. It was the office saying that there was a mistake with the rooms and that we should only have been allocated one and what were we going to do about it. The answer was given that it was 1:30 in the morning not a lot was going to be done and we'd have to talk to them in the morning. The caller then asked how the room was going to be paid for as he couldn't settle his accounts. He was told that we would have to deal with things in the morning as 1:30am was not a suitable time to be calling the room in such a manner. The next morning we went to speak with the desk and were met initially with confusion and then with aggression. There was an error on the computer system which had allocated us 2 rooms and whilst this was not our fault the hotel management made it clear that they expected us to pay for their error. The pros: my room was huge, the docoration was really nice and original. So the room itself was perfect ! Nevertheless the location is not really good: not too far from the transportation but a lot of homeless people in the neighborhood and I didn't feel safe. Choos a hotel the north of market street, and try to avoid Market St itself. Other inconvenient: […] my room door lead directly to a nice but noisy patio. We picked this hotel because we had stayed there before years past and remember it being close to ATT Park for the baseball games. It was within walking distance to everything we wanted without being outrageously priced. The seperate patios, roof top deck and open roof pool are great. Make sure you ask about air conditioning, we found out the hard way […] that not all room have this. Thankfully it cools down in the evenings and we could leave the windows open. I had a bad experience with check out though. I left an item in the room and immediately called back after checking out and asked if they could leave the item at the front desk. When I returned later to pick it up apparently only the main housekeeper has the key to the lost and found and I was unable to retrieve my item. We just stayed here one night to go to a concert at the Warfield a couple of blocks away. It's a good location and the room was adequate. The service in the lobby was lacking; I say that only because there was one guy to do the 'checking in' and he was occupied with one guest for 15 minutes as we waited and the line piled up behind us. Stayed at the hotel for 4 nights-they screwed up our reservation for the last night so we had to switch rooms. Called us when we were out in wine country for the day to break the news. I was not very pleased to say the least. The hotel is right on a busy street and with no air conditioning and the windows open it is very loud very early in the morning! […] Somewhat convenient for location and is easy to walk to places if you are brave enough to walk through the ghetto. The last night of our stay in San Fran we moved to out to a different hotel by the airport. Thankfully we did as we were watching the news we saw that there was a shooting a block from the hotel that injured 5 innocent bystanders! We walked right by where it happened everyday! this is an excellent hotel the room are great, well furnuished and very clean the hotel has a swimming pool which is heated and the bar on site is very good with freindly staff the only down side is the surrounding area, the streets are full with drug addicts and homeless people sleeping on the pavements not at all a pleasent sight

Pro's -Nice decor, good quality furniture and comfy bed. -Very clean. -Staff are helpful. -1.5 block walk to streetcar line. Con's -Most rooms face the central courtyard - where smoking is allowed - and because non of the rooms have air conditioning you have to leave your windows open... you get the picture. -No free breakfast. There is an attached […] diner, but at nearly $10 for a tiny portion of eggs and bacon, it is quite overpriced. -No fridge in the room. -The surrounding neighborhood isn't the best. The hotel staff were friendly, the room was clean and we had a room off the street meaning there was no problem with noise. For the price and location, I would say that this hotel is pretty much perfect. 5 minute walk to BART and MUNI and about 15 mins from Union Square. Seriously! What more could you want.

Due to the mixed reviews on here I was a little apprehensive of my selection to book this hotel. Comments suggesting it was in the "hood" were mistaken. To clarify, the new Federal building is kitty-corner to this property and the courthouse is across the street. Like any big city you'll see homeless and pan-handlers, nothing different in San Fran. The […] room was very comfortable (with the exception of the pillows). The room was very clean and tidy and the cleaning staff did a good job of making it up. The only comment I'd make about the cleaning staff is that they are LOUD! Because of the design of the hotel, the rooms end up facing a courtyard (cool design) however the housekeeping staff don't seem to realize that the sound echo's quite loudly. The front desk staff were courteous and advised me where NOT to go " the real hood". Overall a good hotel for the value. Within walking distance to all must see/shop/ eat places in down town San Fran. Great staff. My cell phone was dead, i had lost my charger, a staff lend me their's....forever greatful! Close to public transportation to all the other places to see in San Fran. Fun decor in room and in courtyard. Gym!

I was very pleased with the overall quality of the hotel, the rooms were well equipped and nicely designed, the overall atmosphere worked right into the artsy-feel of San Francisco. I had no problems with the neighbourhood, though there are a few homeless people around, they would never bother you and should not be a concern. I did not feel threatened […] at all by any of those staying on the streets. Ultimately, if homelessness really bothers you, you may not want to stay in this hotel. However, in my room (204), you could hear every single suitcase that was being dragged along the hallways (we were beside the elevator). This would sometimes wake us from our sleep. You could also hear thumping treadmill in the gym (also beside our room). Internet speed is acceptable only if you plug in (and still was a bit on the slow side). The hotel is easily accessible via public transport (a block away from the BART Civic Centre station, a MUNI bus stops around the corner from the hotel, and only a 10 minute walk from Union Square). The staff are very helpful and will provide advice on travel within San Francisco should you ask. They're also very responsive to any complaints (my safe didn't work and they sent someone within 10 minutes). So while I enjoyed my stay overall, ear plugs are a necessity. Lisätietoja

1. Hot, and no air conditioning! 2. VERY loud; I called down 3 times during the night to have security quiet a noisy group of people. I finally asked for ear plugs. 3. Bad value for the cost. 4. Bad part of town. 5. Bought continental breakfast-old, stale croissant. I was told was fresh, was cold (partially frozen) in the center and stale. Definitely no frills/thrills. Just your average motel in the heart of SF. The staff are very knowledgable of the surrounding sites and tourist attractions, but offered preferred advice on using public transportation rather than you driving your own vehicle to get around, stating that parking was just too expensive. It can be the case, however not entirely […] so, so long as you watch out for yourself and look around first at the different parking lot options. Had mostly party-goers as booked as a lot of our neighbors were out in front of their room or in the courtyard till 3:00am or so drinking/talking loudly. Well the courtyard definitely didn't help the volume control any. Oh well, that's what you come to SF for any how. We were there for a wedding. Valet parking only, extra cost (of course - it's SF pretty much any/all parking you pay for). Lobby small - staff filled with smiling faces. Elevators were small - prettying one family at a time. When i got to room, had a "Wet Paint" sign at the doorstep. They had just repainted the door and were working on ajacent room doors as well. The paint fumes took a while to discipate. Was fully booked so not able to change to another family style room elsewhere in the complex. Rooms definitely smaller than shown in pictures - but functional. In-room bathrooms were definitely small/tight. Suggestion - have some consideration for larger/big boned persons - not always meaning obese persons. Beds were ok - a little on the firm side for my taste, but that's just me. TV use - a little complicated at first with all the pay-per-view offerings and room charge access and such. No AC - room can get stuffy. Ceiling fan helps though. For it's location and easy access to most everything in SF, great for the 1/2 night stay. Especially if you just want somewhere to crash after partying. this hotel in south SF city caters to international travelers. lots of them. the gym is small and not great. the wireless is underpowered so I plugged into the wired connection and it worked fine. the thing that bugged me was that you have to pay for parking which I felt should be covered. also, the maid service was marginal.

For being my first time in San Francisco, this hotel was the best, nice, comfort and cleanless. But overall resterant was a little expensive for a meal. Other then that really nice hotel, and workers treated me and my family with care and took us in quick loved it, thanks to all workers at best western Americana Plus.

Well, I was expecting a traditional, predictable Best Western and this location blew me away. If you have an appreciation for interior design then you will not be disappointed. Loved it. Loved the decor inside our room it looked very swanky/retro. The pool was heated which was also nice. I would definitely stay here again when I go back to San Fran.

When we arrived the room we were given did not match the description I had read. The staff was very accommodating and gave us a room that worked well for our family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Some of the staff was helpful with finding places we needed to go, but others didn't give me the right directions which made my trip not that great. The hotel was clean and comfy...good for me and my daughter. Not many food places close though, a burger place located in the hotel but expensive.

Retro rooms were not only fun, but clean with rare attention to detail. Neighborhood was fine. The walls are very very thin, so there is lots of noise. Bring ear plugs. Very pleasant stay.

I would not return to this hotel ever AGAIN! I was lied to by Hotel.Com and the staff at the hotel (front desk)!! I book a room with 2 queen size beds. The front desk said they don't even have any rooms with queen size beds, only 2 regular size beds!! I was told they had a restaurant in the hotel as well This was also Wrong!! They had a small hamburger […] cafe next to the hotel, but not part of the hotel! Only hamburgers, nothing else! The hotel room was like a MOTEL! The doors were on the outside! And no air conditioners in the room either! Only heaters!! And the heater made so much noise, I couldn't sleep all night! When we arrived, the room windows were open! We were treated very very rudely by the front desk girl! She was on the phone and didn't want to bother to give us directions to restaurants around. There were none! Hotel is very clean if a little tired. A good 3 out of 5 but the service was great! Neighborhood seems to be struggling.

San Francisco--If you are looking to get the cities best experience this was a good location with a good price. We didn't rent a car this time and used all the public transportation that was available. Very accessible staying here. The hotel employees were all very helpful with anything we asked. Rooms are retro and clean with a nice outside pool area. […] All kinds of restaurants and shopping within walking distance. We were very satisfied with this hotel. If you've stayed in large cities you are familiar with the homeless on the streets this is not any different around this hotel but that is very normal in large cities especially in the warmer climates. Enjoy our stay, it was my little sister (5yrs old) & niece (6yrs old) first time in San Francisco and they loved it. The hotel staff was pleasant they offered board games for them to play while we were in the hotel room. Most important rooms were clean, when we go back we will stay here again!

2/3 of the lights in the room worked, That's good enough for government work is it not? It is a better ratio than the number of windows with functioning weatherstripping. The bed was nearly 50% as large as anticipated. King? No. That was a full. At best. Bathroom transplanted from lilliput. Linens changed only upon request. Overall, this is a nice hotel. On my second stay in three years, I had forgotten that even though it's a mere three star, they REQUIRE that you use the valet parking service, at 20 bucks a night. However, the service offers unlimited in and out priveledge, so, except for the cost, it works fine. The wireless internet in my room was hard to connect […] to, and was slow, even though it had a strong signal. Other than that, everything was fine. I really enjoyed staying here. I don't think the beds are super comfortable, but this is a Best Western after all, and not a fancy hotel. My friends and I stayed in the Family Room, which is the equivalent of a small suite. There were 2 double beds and a living room area with a sofa bed. A good amount of room. Nice new TV. There's no AC, but there […] is a heater (when you come in the winter). There's also a ceiling fan that works really well in case it gets too hot. Everyone who works here is really nice, from the receptionist to the valet. The service desk is always understanding and accommodating. Guest parking is an additional $20 per night, but that's a really good price for the city. The only complaint I have is that the floors are pretty thin. You can hear people walking outside, and if someone's running... oh boy. haha But other than that, I'm really happy with how accommodating this hotel is - decent prices, great service, clean facilities, unique looks. This was a great value hotel. The room was very up to date and comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. It was in a good part of town, close to transportation, restaurants, and shops.

The hotel was very close the where we needed to go from the hotel. We were able to walk there. The hotel room was very nice, clean and comfortable. I have no complains except we had to pay 20 bucks for each car, but I understand that's just San Francisco.

This hotel has a great vibe, although it was very bustling with guests. The rooms and décor were very fun. It is close the lots of fun stuff, but the neighborhood itself was a little sketchy at night. We had to leave 1 day into our 3-night stay due to a family emergency, and the hotel staff was so helpful in getting our plans changed. They didn’t charge […] us for the nights we didn’t stay, which was a total surprise to me. The staff was nothing but kind and courteous to us. This was a good hotal for a short city stay. Near to public transport connections to get to all the sites. Reasonably priced food is available at the hotel and nearby. The area the hotel is in is okay but it's not a downtown hotel. It looks like an old motel that has been remodeled.
