Ameritania at Times Square - New York

Tosi hyvällä paikalla, vain kulman takana Broadwaysta ja Times Squaresta ja myös keskuspuisto muutaman korttelin päässä, helppo käydä aamulenkillä. Muuten aika perus hotelli.

Their computer systems are messed up. The room I booked was a two double bed. They have me a single double bed. I had a lot of time wasted in trying to have them understand this. This fault was their computer system they said and they had not other room where my children could sleep. The extra bed they gave was tiny and not in a condition that any one […] could use. The 2nd day onwards was fine......in the sense of the room. The other problem, 3 different people in the hotel bell, front and staff gave us 3 different answers about their breakfast times. Let me just start and say we are not people that expect much . We understand things can get messed up sometimes so we are understanding of mistakes but I felt like the Ameritania was not trying at all . To start we arrive at 4:30p for a 3:00 check in and our rooms were not ready along with about 5 other couples seeming quite upset that it was taking […] so long to get our rooms . After waiting till 5:00 to get our room we made our way to the really slow and stained floored elevator . Our floor had heavy fumes of paint . Our rooms were nice and clean but small ( even though a deluxe ) . After being in the room 3 minutes a random engineering worker opens and enter our room claiming "he was looking for the wi-fi" . In the morning they had a basic continental breakfast in the lobby , which we were asked for our room number . We ate in the lobby, but when we went to see the dining room there was a small sign off to the left side headed Contenental breakfast. Then below in literally fine print 10.00 per person . We got the charge taken off after complainging but i dont think most hotel guest saw the sign . Then on the way back to our room at 9:30am the housekeeper yelled down the hall what time are you checking out? You don't know what time you're checking out? This was a first for all 3 of us. The hotel is within walking distance of nearly everything you need to be by. The area is pretty safe, just be wary if you have children, we did pull up beside some shady characters. The hotel staff were all friendly and happy to answer any questions we had. The room was small - duh, it's New York. But the bed was extremely comfortable. One issue we […] had was that the windows are VERY thin and there were two construction sites across from us, they would start around five in the morning every day. I would just recommend ear plugs. Otherwise, it was clean, well kept, recently renovated and safe. It was a pleasant stay, and we ended up spending the first night we arrived just in the hotel eating pizza. It was an overnight stay for me and my husband. Pretty much as I expected based on reviews I read. I was disappointed with room. We were told we had a king bed but it turned out to be a king bed platform with a queen mattress. We kept hitting corners, painful. We were in New York from 12/25 through 12/31. We stayed at the Hampton Inn on 8th Ave for the first three nights, and at Ameritania the last three nights. The reason we switched to the Ameritania is because our plans to visit some friends in NJ fell through, and the rates at the Hampton were going way up. I wish we would have found the Ameritania earlier […] and stayed there the whole trip. The Ameritania rates were one-half the cheapest nights at the Hampton Inn, and were one-third the expensive nights. The Ameritania was just as nice, more convenient, and the staff was wonderful. The Ameritania provided a great experience. The door men/bell hops were wonderful - they interacted well with our kids, joked with them making it fun, and even learned their names by the second day. They were very helpful with information and excellent local restaurants. I cannot say enough good things about how welcome they made us feel. The door men also suggested how to easily get out of Times Square to JFK on New Year's Eve. They arranged a car service, which charged less than the taxi cab that brought us from JFK into the city (I paid the commission rate but it was still expensive with the tolls). I only mention this because others have posted negative comments about the car service suggestion by the door men. As expected, the car service was a much nicer vehicle and clean. The driver was a native New Yorker, spoke English, helped with luggage, and took local roads through Queens to get from Times Square to JFK in about 35 minutes in a mess of traffic (all things that the taxi driver was not able to do). On top of it all, the car service driver was blown away when I paid him the same as what the taxi driver got for the trip in. So we stayed at Ameritania during new years eve and couple of days more...it was just perfect:) the location of the hotel was the best! 5min walking distance from Times Square and Central Park. The hotel's staff was really helpful and supportive. (kind doormen & great bartender) Our favorite doorman was Mourad:) We got a lot of help from him! A cute boutique hôtel. it is unfortunate that the renovations they are doing are not of the best quality. I was in two rooms. They moved me from my original room as the renovation noises were unbearable in in the first room. They even offered to help me move my luggage. Both of the rooms looked great, although they claimed the first room had a king […] sized bed and it was not. Hopefully the management will do a very though review of the workman ship before the renovation is complete. The carpets were not layer well, bubbling up and no fill well in door ways. All of the bathroom fixtures were loose. Overall the staff tried to be very helpful and the hotel is trying to make the place look great. I think the owners are lucky to have such dedicated employees. Just seems like they need to step in to insure the contractors fix the discrepancies in their work. The Ameritania is a great find centrally located near all the happenings in New York. Time Square, Broadway, and David Letterman's Studio minutes away. Many choices of eateries and you can walk to all the sights and sounds in a New York minute! Awesome Awesome Great Rate! LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION!

Check in with Emerald could not have been better. I was quickly upgraded to Room 805 upon request which is a corner King room. Room was clean every day. Bed is a mattress on a platform. I can see why some wouldn't like this but i found it comfortable and not an issue at all. Impossible for a hotel to please everyone when it comes to a mattress. Bathroom […] very modern and clean. Construction inside hotel minimal and across the street is significant, but I never heard either nor was bothered by them. (leave for work at 7AM and no noise up till that point. No noise after 7PM either) EXCELLENT location! Go out door and turn corner on Broadway and you are looking down the street at Times Square. Easy walk! Dave Letterman next door. Only issues I had with room. The toilet was installed too tight to sink so when you sit down, you are up against the sink. Again, just a product of maximizing space in a NYC hotel room! The other, as others have stated is the lack of TV channels. Has the 3 major networks, some news and a couple cable. No DSC, TLC or other major cable. No reason a hotel should not have better TV! (did have nice flat screen) I was staying on business so I enjoy relaxing at night watching some TV. (wifi is $10/day also) Neither should be a dealbreaker for staying at this clean, well located hotel. Those of you complaining of small rooms, if it is an consolation, this is NYC and it is the norm unless you spend significant more $$$ per night. Be nice and ask politely for an upgrade at check in!! Been staying here for 14 years now. Was redone last year and it's as gorgeous as ever with the kindest staff! It's my home away from home in NYC !

I originally booked the least expensive room and found it to be just too small. They comped be a larger room for one of the three nights I was there. The front desk personnel were ok but not overly friendly. This hotel is newly renovated and the condition is quite good. There is construction across the street that starts at 8 AM with jackhammers every […] day including Sunday. Very loud and difficult to sleep in. I had a comfortable bed with four fat foam pillows. I asked if they had any feather pillows and was told they did not. The only ice machine they have is in the lobby so you have to come all the way down just to get ice. This was a last minute booking a week before Christmas. Location couldn't be any better... in the middle of everything. Staff was fun and very accomidating. Loved it.

I stayed at this hotel with my two kids- ages 7 & 8. It was a trip to the city to enjoy ice skating in Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Times Square, and Ripley's Believe it or Not. The hotel's location is PERECT! It's located near all points of interest! There are great places near to eat and Starbucks across the street. The people working at the […] hotel are very friendly and did not hesitate to give us a late check out. The room is VERY SMALL. The room has been updated, but poor choice of carpeting. I read all the reviews and expected to hear noise from the construction across the street. However, we stayed in room 522 and didn't even hear a nail being hammered! The room was very small with only a foot of room to walk around the bed. The elevator was VERY slow! The stair wells were incredibly small and dirty.

Very spacious room, clean, courteous staff. Only downside is the construction noises across the street, but it was definitely a great hotel!

Not having stayed at this boutique hotel before I was pleasantly surprised to find an updated decor in the room I was given. The room was very clean, recently updated with a flat screen TV and a very nicely outfitted bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and the staff was very easy to deal with upon checkin/checkout. We had a great experience with Ameritania. The staff was very helpful, the room clean, the location was great. I would recommend Ameritania and stay there again.

This hotel is great. Location is perfect for the weekend trip to NYC. The room was very clean, updated and quiet. The room size was small but the locations made up for that. The lobby and bar area was filled with a wonderful staff.

The construction noise on the street right outside my window was unbearable and lasted sometimes until 10pm. They're supposed to have pay movies...they did not...re-doing their system. Of the few channels they did have...at least half were so snowy you couldn't watch them. The toilet clogged...no ice available, except in lobby...the list is endless. […] Hated this place. There was still construction going on across the street, but they did not start early on Saturday morning; and even when they did, we hardly heard them. We were in a renovated Deluxe room on the 2nd floor, and the windows must be well sound-proofed. The hotel is very elegantly designed in a modified art-deco. The lobby is really quite beautiful, in […] a rough-aesthetic kind of way, and our room was clearly thoughtfully decorated, in a way that made it look and feel bigger than it really was. It would have been nice to have a refrigerator (e.g., minibar or plain fridge). We had our own coffee maker but if we hadn't, that would have been disappointing too. But the room really was pleasant to be in. My biggest complaint -- or almost-complaint -- concerns the bedding. I am extremely allergic to feathers and down. My wife saw the label on the blanket saying "at least 70% down" so we called the front desk for a replacement blanket. The receptionist talked to the manager and reported back to us that, according to the manager, none of the bedding was down. My wife told her about the label, and they backed off, and gave us woolen blankets. They were prompt and friendly, but had we taken their word for it, I would have suffered a bad asthma attack -- not a joke. We also noticed that one of the elevators was broken for most of our stay, As we were on the 2nd floor, this was not a problem. Despite these glitches, I found the hotel a delightful place to stay. Make sure you get the correct parcking garage which the hotel validates. The hotel was not clear on which one when I inquired and as result I paid 3 times as much!

Though they are still working on a few kinks in this newly remodeled hotel, I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to be near Times Square. Modern and stylish with friendly and helpful staff, I enjoyed this boutique hotel and plan on staying there again soon.

We are trying to use the Ameritania hotel consistently for our company trips to New York City. Whilst the overall feel is ok there does seem to be a little lacking. Some of the front staff are really very friendly whilst others do not spontaneously greet or seem friendly. I did not have a facecloth in the bathroom and when I asked for one I was told […] that unfortunately they are all dirty? The following evening I had to ask again and this time, after a lengthy wait, two were delivered to me. Small things that make a difference. We will continue to use the Ameritania for now because the location is good and most times the rates are acceptable. Very nice hotel. Not a lot of frills but the rooms were nicely decorated, it was clean, quiet and in a convenient location to walk around and enjoy the sights. Very nice, helpful staff. Will definitely stay there again. Only complaint was the very limited number of TV channels but who watches tv when you are in NYC?

Under renovation as well as construction across the street until 6pm makes for a noisy stay. No drapes on the window just a slat blind that did not go down to sill. Terrible mattresses for new ones.

I went with one of my best friend and the only available room, was a standard room, which it's a small room and small bed (I guess it's good for a couple, not friends) About the noise from the construction in front of the hotel as I read other reviews, it DIDN'T bother us at all. The staff is very friendly and ready to help you with anything! I hate […] not having free wireless, but there's a computer you can use for a better price or there's the Starbucks across the street. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION I stayed in this hotel a few years ago and knew I would go back mostly because of its location. In my opinion it needed to be renovated and its biggest issue was the elevators, very slow and they would get stuck. i recently went back and now the hotel has been renovated in the lobby area, the rooms and their bathrooms. Maybe by then they have made a better selection on the room service menu which was very poor in choices and the elevators will be better. Hotel was clean, room was way better the expected. Room was on the small side but it was clean, very nicely decorated, and in a great location. We were very happy with our room and the service, we would go back again.

Staff were doing their best, but 1st 5 floors under construction, impacted our 6th floor room. Only 1 elevator available, noise, dirt & debris from construction. Lack of hot water a couple of days. Couldn't seem to get face cloths, tho lots of other linen. They gave us a small credit to compensate, and were very nice. But...

The location was great. Very central to all of the NYC sights. Staff was friendly. The double double room was clean, sufficient space. Beds were very comfortable. The standard room that our parents had, however, was TINY. Would not recommend a standard room.

The hotel is perfectly situated near Broadway, Times Square, Fifth Avenue, Central Park and lots of good restaurants. The concierges were very helpful during our stay. The new design is very modern and attractive although the finishings aren't well done and the heater didn't work. Some renovations were still taking place while we were there. The lifts […] can be slow but apparantly that's typical for New York. The main problem with our stay was with our reservation which was made 6 months earlier. As we were asking for 3 rooms with a different number of children in each, we placed a phone booking via hotels.com. The subsequent email confirmation indicated exactly what we requested with 2 double beds in each room. The cost of the rooms varied depending on the number and ages of the children. However on arrival, reservations had obviously not taken this into consideration and put the blame on hotels.com but I don't know who's fault it is. Only one room had 2 double beds. One room had one king bed for 3 adults and another was too small and in a very bad state (not renovated) for 3 adults and 1 child. As the hotel was full, they suggested giving us rollaway beds however the rooms were too small to open them. We had to make do the first night and after a lot of insistance the next day, managed to change rooms or get an extra room for those who didn't have enough beds. I know it mentions that bedding can't be taken into consideration but the number of occupants should be. One last point, on checking out, I was advised that all was OK and that there was nothing to pay. However my Visa card has been debited for $17.99 and I don't know why. Lisätietoja

The room and the hotel are great. The service very good. Clean etc but be warned construction M-F and Saturday starts at 6am. If you are a light sleeper you will hear it.

Stayed in this hotel in 2010 and it was fine. Just recently stayed again in 2011 and all rooms have been competely renovated with all new room upgrades. Very nice and modern. Perfect location for all sites and close to subway line.

The new bathroom and rug meant this snug hotel room was most comfortable. Maid-work was good but incomplete -- our drinking glasses and ice container were ignored. Good value.

This is a great hotel for the money. Super nice!!!

I was warned by other reviews that the room was small and didnt have a closet otherwise would have been quite the shock. Staff was attentive and room was clean so served its purpose for an overnighter.
