Hotel is lovely, Staff were good. With the room, certainly not value for money. I don't think I would choose this hotel again. I have stayed in nicer for cheaper.

Everything was fine with this hotel. The only minus could be that the partition walls seem quite thin.

A luxurious hotel with large, comfortable rooms that is well worth the few extra dollars / nightly rate. Location at the end of Old Town in the quiet middle of all nearby attractions, especially the Holyrood Palace & the scenic cliffs. Only drawback - parking is expensive so book online in advance and save $15/night.

Very comfortable medium size hotel. Very well located far enough of the crowd from down town. At 7mn walking from main touristic areas.

I stayed at the Macdonald Holyrood Hotel in late August, when several festivals were going on and Edinburgh was full of tourists. I appreciated the fact that it was away from the crowds in a fairly quiet area near the Scottish Parliament. The hotel was one of the most beautiful (if pricey) hotels I've ever stayed in, and the service was exemplary. The […] concierage was especially helpful. I arrived in town without a ticket to the Military Tattoo (which was sold out), and he somehow obtained a ticket for me the same day. The waiters in the hotel restaurant were also very attentive and courteous. They couldn't do enough for you. The room was very quiet and peaceful, a real plus after experiencing the huge noisy crowds at the Fringe. On three occasions I needed a taxi, and they called one right away. Large room and bath room, very nice stay. Only gripe is wedding reception - music was loud and it went on until 12:30am. Location is very good too.

Lovely hotel, very clean and bright, close to Royal Mile. Room was clean and large, very comfortable beds. Pool and sauna relaxing. Didn't have any meals here, but close to Tesco express for croissants on a morning ! Would definitely stay again.

Great service from the the moment we walked in On our 2nd night there was a wedding going on. We were on the 2nd floor and above the party - the noise was awful, it felt like we were at the wedding itself. We spoke to Adam, the deputy manager, and he immediately said theyd move us to a suite on the 6th floor. This was 10.30pm but they were aware that […] a lot of the wedding party were staying on our floor and would make a lot of noise on their return. The location is almost in front of the Scottish Parliament - although we'd not realised it was also in front of a large, ugly council estate too. Despite a few somewhat tired-looking items in the room, this was a very nice value hotel. Excellent staff and location.

At the far end of the main street, away from the castle but close to Hollyroad Palace & Parliament. Inside the hotel was a bit worn but quiet, fairly spacious & comfortable. Staff was helpful, transportation convenient, never tried their restaurant.

This was my first trip abroad and I am so happy to say that the hotel was absolutely perfect. The location was close enough to walk everywhere but not congested. Good pubs and restaurants. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful! My daughter and I were very comfortable.

We enjoyed a lovely three night stay from 17th March. The hotel is at the Holyrood Palace end of the Royal mile (just off the actual mile), so a very short walk to the palace and the scottish parliament. Also, very near is Canongate Kirk, where Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall will be wed later this year. Not far to walk to start your ascent to Arthur's […] seat - if that's your thing. My only gripes would be the very firm bed, which wasn't as comfortable as it could have been and the TV could do with replacing with a flat screen that isn't below the level of the bed. We had a lovely four night stay in clean room with extremely comfy beds. Spa and gym facilities were a lovely added bonus. Small walk from all the local sites but far enough away that we were not disturbed by the late night revellers or early morning tourists. Have never slept so well in a hotel before.

The MacDonald is a clean and comfortable lodging for a couple of nights; is situated in a very good location -- one block from a major tourist attraction, but is off on a side street away from the fray of the tourist hotels. Room was surprisingly large (for UK) and very clean, bathroom large and clean with working air conditioning as Americans expect […] it (real air, not just a fan). Only 5 minutes walk to everything interesting. Staff were cheerful and very helpful. The only minor complaints were that they have a relatively old fashion (and tiny) television in each room, we got a wake up call that was not requested, the restaurant was pricey for what it offered and the food of mixed quality, and the mattress on the bed was a bit lumpy. This hotel was in an excellent location, especially for dynamic earth which was just across the road. Staff were friendly and the room was clean and comfortable. There was no jacuzzi in the leisure facilities which would have been good.

arrived late, room not ready, smell of smoke in bedroom, shower changed temp hot to scalding. Couldn't view antique telly from bed!

The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the hotel was great for a one night stay, very centrally located and fab quality.

After scanning various websites for a good value quality hotel I decided upon the MacDonald Holyrood because of its excellent position at the foot of the Royal Mile and its close proximity to Arthurs Seat amongst other attractions. Now I'm not the suited and booted type, but like to think of myself as pretty presentable, so the snobbish welcome I received […] after a 6 hour drive from Birmingham was most unwelcome. The hotel and its facilities are good enough, but the problems I encountered were as follows: Checked online for parking charges when making my booking, which I read at £10 per night (potentially an error on my part). On check in I was told parking had never been £10, but always £20 so I reluctantly swallowed that bitter pill. However on checkout I was presented with a bill for £25 per night BECAUSE I HAD BOOKED A SPACE IN ADVANCE!!! When booking the space I was not told at any time about this additional charge. Spent part of an afternoon in the Health Club and my partner and I were given a filthy look when we each took a COMPLIMENTARY towel to use. Facilities were good, but we were again made to feel like second class citizens on what was our first weekend away together. These may seem like petty incidents, but they went a long way towards spoiling my stay in Edinburgh. The hotel really needs to look at its customer service in my opinion. Lisätietoja

This hotel is ideally located for exploring Edinburgh. Situated beside the Scottish parliament, it offers easy access to the various bus routes around the city. The hotel itself is clean, quiet, and beautifully decorated. The staff are polite and helpful. It also offers an excellent swimming pool to all hotel residents. The only minor fault I can […] find with the hotel is the fact that our room was very hot, and the air conditioner was too loud to leave on. our stay at the Holyrood hotel was a good relaxing break. The staff where very helpful, from the reception desk to the staff in the Spa, everyone had tiime to chat and made my daughter and I feel welcome. The hotel itself is a little out of the main area, but as long as you dont mind a 10 - 15 min walk, the advantage is it is quiet and away from the […] bustle. The bars and eating places around are good value and good food. We got a taxi into town at night, and to and from the rail station, which where reasonable and prompt. We used the pool and spa facilities, which where of a good standard. The treatments where on a special offer, so we both had a back massage, at a very reasonable price. Our original booking had to be changed, due to an accident involving the staff, we where informed immediatley and we where offered a wide choice of optional times, even next day, which shouldnt have been on the offer. The hotel room was of a good size, clean and well equiped,. The bathroom was large, which is often unusual in large hotels. Overall I would return to the Holyrood, and recommend it to others, as long as you realise it is not central. Lisätietoja

The best feature of the Macdonald Holyrood Hotel is its proximity to the Royal Mile. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The staff seemed somewhat inexperienced (in training?) but polite.

El hotel es perfecto para una escapada urbana ya que se encuentra a sólo 15 min. andando del centro de Edimburgo así como de sus principales atracciones turísticas. This is a perfect place for a stayin in Edinburgh for some days if you just take a walk for about 10-15 minutes it's all yours, peaceful and in good standards...and a nice pub and some small shops close to the hotel. Fresh rooms and helpful staff.

Hotel muito bonito e confortavel, com um atendimento excelente, o unico problema e que fica um pouco longe do centro, mas os onibus para se conhecer a cidade passam bem perto. Excelente hotel, recomendo.

De ansatte var super hyggelige og veldig innstilt på å hjelpe til der det var mulig. Hotellet lå sentralt i nærheten av det nye parlamentet, og kun 5 min gange til the royal mile og med gå muligheter til alt av attraksjoner i Edinburgh sentrum. Rommet var stort og rent, og også badet tilfredstilte våre krav. Alt i alt var min mor og jeg veldig fornøyde […] med oppholdet og drar gjerne tilbake om vi skulle ta en ny tur til Edinburgh. Holyrood var fräscht och personalen var trevlig och hjälpsam. Enda minuset var att wi-fi inte ingick utan kostade extra, vilket känns märkligt på ett hotell av den standarden.

Vi besøkte Edinburgh i april 2011 og bodde da på Macdonald Holyrood Hotel. Det vi likte med hotellet var den gode standarden på alt. Rommet, lobby, restaurant m.m. holdt meget god standars samt at sengene var gode å sove i. Betjeningen var meget vennlige og opptatt av å imøtekomme våre behov. Maten på restauranten var god samt at prisene her absolutt […] var overkommelige. Hotellet var lett og finne og lå bar 10 min. spasertur fra sentraljernbanestasjonen. Hotellet lå også kun ett kvartal fra "The Royal Mile" som er hovedgaten for alle turister i byen. Det vi syns var spesielt bra med beliggenheten var at hotellet lå i en stille gate og et lite stykke unna alle pubber og barer. Dette gjorde at alt vi ønsket kun var en spasertur på noen minutter unna samtidig som vi hotellet i seg selv lå i et rolig og område. Dette hotellet kan anbefales på det varmeste. Neste gang vi skal til Edinburgh skal vi bo på Macdonald Holyrood Hotel! :-) Lisätietoja

Fint opphold på Macdonald Holyrood Hotel. Hotellet ligger forholdsvis sentralt til i et meget stille og rolig området. Serviceinnstillingen til de ansatte var på topp under hele oppholdet og vi hadde ingen problemer hverken med innsjekking eller utsjekking. Treningsrommet mangler enkelte nødevendige vekter, men er helt ok. Svømmebassenget er litt slitt […] men ellers helt fint til sitt bruk. Gode og romslige garderober ellers. Meget fornøyd med hotellet, og tar gjerne inn igjen neste gang vi er i Edinburgh. Lisätietoja

Hyggelig hotell med fin pianobar. Sentral beliggenhet med god busstilgang. Stille og rolig med god nattero. Servicen i resepsjonen meget bra. Anbefales virkelig!

Muy buen hotel, en un buen emplazamiento lejos de "ruidos turísticos", buena atención del personal, recepcionistas hablando español. Si volviera a Edimburgo, volvería a este hotel. Un único problema: el wifi debería ser gratuito.

Veldig hyggelig betjening som tok godt imot oss. God service med blide fjes bak baren. Rommene var meget romslige. Resepsjon og bar-området var åpent og fint. Litt lang ventetid i kø for å komme inn til frokost, så vi spiste ikke der.
