"Hard Mattress"
Everything was perfect but I prefer a little bit softer mattress.
Clean and comfortable room. Even coming from I-80 the drive was quick and easy. Breakfast was nice, with waffles, omelets and plenty of food. Would definitely stay there again.

Nice place to stay. Clean, comfortable, courteous staff, close to turnpike. Decent breakfast. Perhaps a little over-priced.
"Hampton Inn Portage Indiana"
The Hampton's lobby is right near double-doors which means a chilly experience. The hotel's complimentary computer and breakfasts are served in the lobby. The breakfast was magnificent! An "A+" for the wonderful breakfast. However, a "D-" for the swimming pool. It was FREEZING cold during our trip in December. The front desk just said it wasn't "warming […] up" properly eventhough it was supposed to be a heated pool. Our kids loved the visit to the Outdoor Wilderness shop only 2 minutes away by car (you can't walk it). Very close to the wonderful shop full of bait & tackle, camping gear, and a display of taxidermy animals which felt like a visit to the zoo. Incredible. We spent 3-4 hours there!!! Coming from the city (Chicago), this was a decent weekend getaway but next time we'll try the Best Western just steps away...... with NEWER furniture and BETTER swimming pool which is heated and includes a basketball hoop!!!! "Clean and affordable"
Staff was friendly, room was clean and price was affordable. Seemed to be a friendly neighborhood area. No problems whatsoever for our 1 night stay.

"Very nice hotel!"
It was a wonderful stay. The front desk staff were very friendly. The room was very clean, comforatble, and quiet. The breakfast was very good with a nice selection of food. The pool area was clean and comfortable. And the price was very reasonable! I'll stay there again if I have need to stay in th earea.
Don't like the smell of smoke or cigarette in our room. Other than that, it was fairly clean. The service at the breakfast counter and front desk was excellent. The smiles and all around sunny disposition of the lady at the breakfast counter was a great way to start the day. Told my kids that she be a great, lovable grandma.

"Excellent place to stay"
The staff was very friendly, the room was clean, the beds comfortable and the hot breakfast was wonderful. The older lady who made the breakfast was so helpful in giving me a tray to take some food upstairs to my family. We will definitely stay here again.
"Hampton Inn Portage - Quality Service With A Smile"
The best part about this hotel is its employees. There is an older lady who does the breakfast who is wonderful and smiling all the time. The houskeeping staff took great care of us and were so friendly. Clean and well maintained. Only one negative was the pop machine on second floor was really noisy but that is a minor.
Room smelled bad & upon arrival there were long black hairs all over the bathroom floor.

This was such a surprise we were so so so happy to have such a nice room and it was so much more than we expected!!! We have 2 small kids and to they have a hard time in new place's but man did this feel like home!!! I would stay there again!!! We wished we took our swim suits cuz there pool looked so nice. In the am we got a free breakfast SO SO […] SO good eggs and waffles my kids were like YUMMY !!!! The only downer is it was hard to get back to the toll roads and the new flat screens were being put in the day we checked out ( LOL the hubby was all bummed out when he heard that) But one of the best we have stayed at on our 4,000 mile trip. This hotel was clean,comfortable and convenient to Chicago....only 1.5 hours to sightseeing destination in Oak Park .

This hotel is conveniently located right off the highway. Check in was quick and the room was just as we expected. The bed was very comfortable and the room had everything we needed. The continental breakfast had a surprising variety of choices, and it was a very good (and free) meal. The only negative was the small size of the pool and lack of a hot […] tub. "Short but sweet"
We arrived around 1am and found our room clean and neat. We had to leave early the next morning but enjoyed the complimentary breakfast (many choices) and good service. Location just off interstate was very convenient.

The hotel was clean and well maintained. Our room was clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. Staff was very nice and helpful and the breakfast was great. Will stay here again when I'm in the area.

"Never Again!"
I was looking for a hotel on my way back to Chicago from drinking some wine in Michigan and decided Indiana would be a perfect half way point. I came across this hotel and thought “how bad can a Hampton Inn be?” Boy was I wrong! The friendly staff was the only positive thing the hotel has going for it! The hotel was empty practically but for some reason […] my room was at the far end of a hall on the 3rd floor. While walking down the hall I noticed how old the carpet looked. Upon entering my room I quickly noticed it was run down. The bathroom had way too much hair on the floor for me to except. The tv remote had only one button that worked, the channel down button. I should have called down for a new remote but it was after 9pm so I figured why bother. The bed was horrible! Could feel the wires around the edges of the bed when I sat down. Pillows were fine. I woke in the morning and decided to just head home and did not shower. When I got home and went to climb into the shower I noticed some bumps under my arm. BEDBUG BITES!!!! "4th of July Visit"
Enjoyed every part of the stay except the fact that we inquired about fireworks display. The lady at the front desk said they had been the night before. So we went in for the night only to hear them about a block away a little later on. Sorry we missed that!

Staff members were friendly and helpful. Close to Michigan City & Portage-- beaches and shopping
We thought it a strange location for such a nice hotel, but once inside it was good. Passing by front desk or the maids we were always greeted with a smile and a " hello, how are you today" The breakfast area lady was very nice and helpful and the food was good too.

"Inexpensive, but has drawbacks"
Wasn't very clean. Hair on the floor in the bathroom. Pool was nice but small. Beds weren't very comfortable, they moved like jello when someone on the bed moved the whole bed would shift and wobble. Breakfast was very good. Waffles, omlets, sausage, fruit.
