Howard Johnson Express - Arcata - Arcata

We stayed over night here while on vacation in California. The room was very nice and comfortable. Everyone we talked to at the front desk was very helpful.

didn't occur to me until we got there they save the party room for the cheapskates

the description and pictures did not quite tell the real story of this place. it was outdated and partially clean. I will not stay there again.

We were very pleased with our stay. The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. It was close to several restaurants that we could walk to.

I usually stay in the Quality Inn just down the road from this hotel, but I was with a large group and this one had a better rate. No I see why....the plumbing was bad, the toilet never flushed completely, the water in the shower and sink ran out brown and the room just looked run down. We booked 2 rooms for 2 nights so we could go to the Humboldt State open day on 4/13/12. When we arrived the night manager told us one room was in the back and one up the hall at the street side of the hotel. I told him the second room was for our underage daughter and he moved her to a closer room. She was still 3 rooms away but it was much better […] and I appreciated it. Upon arrival my employees trying to check in after a 7 hour drive had to deal with a disgruntled hotel manager.. He said without the credit card that was used to book the rooms he was not going to let them in. He told them that it was posted online that you need that same card number... Hotel was comfortable. Breakfast was nice but the small room to eat made it difficult, along with the signs to not take waffles to your room. We disobeyed and did it any way since we didn't want to eat standing up.

While checking out HSU and getting my daughter ready for starting college - I have stayed in about 6 different hotels in the Eureka & Arcata area in the past few months Howard Johnson Express in ARcata is by far the best of the bunch. The staff were very helpful but the bed was very uncomfortable plus the view out our window was weeds.... Need better quality towels and pillows! We did not take advantage of the breakfast but it looked good.

My non-smoking room smelled faintly of smoke, just as you enter the room then it's not noticeable. It's a short drive to either HSU or downtown Arcata, but not walkable. Room was quiet and staff courteous.

We got in at 10:30 on a Friday night and left about 11:00 the next morning to see the local sights. We just needed a hotel to sleep in for the night. Our reservation was ready to go when we arrived, which was great, since we were tired and just wanted to get into the room and go to bed. TV did not work? bath room lights tripped the breaker for some reason so no lights at night? other than that hotel was nice.

Spent four nights here while vacationing around the coast and redwoods. Nice hotel, quiet, clean and comfortable. I would recommend staying there.

Great place to quickly stay the night. Nothing extravegant. The breakfast was ok, small room to dine in though. I'd stay again if passing through.

Hotel water pressure was low and the water was warm not hot.

The Howard Johnson Express in Arcata is very nice. It is on Hotel row with several other hotels. A few restaurants near by however not a huge selection. I definetly recommend going into downtown Arcata as the restaurant selection is much wider. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. However the walls are very thin. I could hear my neighbors talking […] late at night and hear their TV very early in the morning. If you are a light sleeper this may not be the hotel for you. This is an excellent hotel for the price. We visit Arcata about twice a year and always stay at this hotel. It is my wife's favorite hotel. The employees and staff are always friendly and helpful. Hotels located a few miles from downtown and HSU. Not within easy walking distance, but close by car. Hotel was noting fancy, but was clean and as expected. For an overnight stay it worked well.

We love the Howard Johnson Arcata. Very nice people managing and very nice employees. Room was comfortable and convenient. Debbie went out of her way to straighten out problem with reservations.

We really like this hotel. We stayed here during our daughters orientation at HSU and it was very close to the school and all the city had to offer. The staff were all very pleasant the the rooms were clean. We stayed for a total of 4 nights and I can't complain about a thing! I highly recommend staying here!

NIce and basic - nothing fancy but we weren't looking for fancy. LOVED the fact there is an inhouse washer/dryer. Close to food and freeway. We would stay again - just don't expect fancy. Room was clean and adequate. Staff were excellent and great customer service.

Outside of the hotel had recently been updated, however in the room- mirror frame cracked, handle in shower fell out at slightest touch, furniture was well worn. Good location, bed okay, we weren't in the room much, so overall okay.

The room was clean, comfortable, and nicely located. The staff were friendly, and helpful.

I rented this room for New Years Eve!! Everything was fine! Actually pretty quiet for New Years! Only thing is, I wanted a suite...Pretty small for a suite!!

Prima hotel, prijs/kwaliteitverhouding was goed. Locatie ten noorden van Arcata, dus niet zonder de auto naar het centrum. Geen gezellige lobby of restaurant maar als overnachtingsplek een goede keus.
