The Roger - New York

Really enjoyed our stay at this boutique hotel in the heart of Manhattan. The staff were very helpful and friendly and our room was spacious, clean and well appointed. Great location and easy to get to sights, subway, shops and restaurants.

The hotel is well-maintained and the staff are amazingly helpful and friendly. I was traveling for business at NYU and it was one of the less expensive options, closer to a subway and only 4 blocks' walk to the med center! If you're used to luxurious hotel bathrooms, however, keep looking. The one in my room was no bigger than 4'x3' excluding the shower […] - it's hard to believe it met building codes. If you have lots of toiletries, be prepared to use a desk to store them on. The corridors are also very narrow. The decor of the hotel and the rooms was nice, Euro-style efficiency furniture and lively jewel-tones. My room was an inside room (ie, view of another wall with little natural light), but that didn't bother me as they hide it nicely. Ask for a view, though, if you're spending any amount of time in your room. Yes, one of those with multiple windows overlooking the ESB. Expect a good sleep - the beds, linens and temperature were perfect for an atypically cold and rainy April. Morning is a bit tougher - no coffee maker in the room, no paper. You just have to get dressed and walk across the street to the small deli (or to the breakfast buffet on the mezzanine). The service fee was not mentioned when I checked in, nor was there an explanation of what it included, but it was disclosed to me when I booked so it did not catch me by surprise. I believe it's for local phone calls and WiFi. I travel frequently and have found that even full-blown resorts that do offer services for 'service fees' are starting to let them go. I would prefer a $20 higher room rate than pay for services I don't/won't use. This is not a good city-hotel business model and will be infuriating if you're out all day and only use your room to sleep, shower and shave. Really, who uses hotel phones any more? I'd rather pay a reasonable Internet fee for the one day I actually needed it. The rest of it was money out the window. (And is subject to increase without notice, btw!! The hotel staff was friendly and knowledgeable and always ready to help. The rooms were very nice, and i had a great view of the city. Fantastic stay

1st room was freezing cold and within 10 minutes of a call to the front desk to remedy the MANAGER came to our room with keys for a new room that was much larger (and warmer!). No questions asked. That kind of service will keep me recommending the Roger Williams. Only downside...$19 "resort" fee mandatory..includes Net access and free local calls (really?). […] This fee left a bad taste in my mouth but manager's helpfulness and staff friendliness outweighs in a positive way. As I have visited New ork numerous times I have stayed in many hotels and I can safely say I was mighty impressed with the Roger, would defeintely recommend it to anyone and will certainly consider it when I visit the Big Apple again.

Loved the "Roger"..We will definitely go back sometime. Thank you so much to Catherine for the complimentary bottle of Champagne. What a nice surprise. The beds are extremely comfortable and NO BED BUGS!! a real perk. The bath rooms are a bit small..get in an get out. LOL Overall LOVED IT and location is great.

The front door and desk staff are very nice and friendly. - The Bathroom is very small - The Heating / Air Conditioning are loud and could not keep the room at a comfortable temperature. - We were charged an additional $19.00 dollars upon arrival; The description on the bill was a service fee. (?)

Lovely hotel, not a big box brand. Small bathroom, but clean, good water pressure. Nice stay.

Hotel was clean, had windows that opened, and fabulous sheets. I'd stay there again.

a small cosy hotel conveniently located in mid town. our only gripe is that the room was small, really small and the bathroom tiny. you couldn't swing a cat in it - barely room for one person! hotel decor looking a little tired, chipped furniture, marked walls etc. needs updating badly. staff all wonderful though which made up for alot.

The hotel is located in a great location. It is easy to access Manhattan which is great. The only drawback is the room service. We ordered a hamburger well done and it was terrible. The bread was stale and the burger was over cooked and had no flavor. Also, you cannot order breakfast for room service. You have to go to the mezzanine for the buffet […] which is an inconvenience. Had a great stay at Roger Williams. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Only two small complaints: it got really hot (even though it was < 30 outside), we tried the a/c but it just blew hot air so we had to crack the window open to cool off. No huge deal though. The other small issue was the room was a bit on the dusty side. My allergies flared up […] a little bit, but I'm pretty sensitive to that stuff so overall this wasn't a major complaint. Lisätietoja

My boyfriend and I traveled to NYC for two reasons. One we wanted to indulge in and take in the Christmas spirit that NYC had to offer and it was incredible! Second reason, it was our anniversary and when we arrived at the hotel we were assigned a superior room. The room was Ok but very warm and not a lot of ventilation. In addition there was a problem […] with the sink in the bathroom. My boyfriend immediately called the front desk and explained our dissatisfaction with our room and the fact that we were celebrating our anniversary. The gentleman immediately came up and showed us another room with a terrace and a view of the Empire State building! We were THRILLED!!!!! They were so accomodating and pleasant! We changed rooms and were so happy!!!! We had a great view from our terrace and fully enjoyed our NYC experience even more because of this hotel. The hotel is in a great location, not too far from all of the attractions. We enjoyed walking about and loved the service at the hotel!!!!! Very, very pleasant and helping staff!!!!!!! I usually try to visit NY once a year but this is the first time I've stayed at the Rogers Williams. I've walked by the hotel before and thought that I'd like to stay there but it was a bit expensive for one person. Luckily, I got a deal online. This is a wonderful hotel. I don't know if it qualifies as a boutique hotel but it certainly felt like one. […] The service was friendly and attentive. I never had to wait for assistance and everyone seemed eager to help. The room was lovely and spacious for a NY hotel room. I was concerned about visiting this year because of the bedbug media hype - well, my concerns were unfounded. I never saw any evidence of any bug of any sort and my room was very clean. My only complaint, and it's not really a big deal, is that my room was warm. The heat wasn't on but the room was hot. I mentioned it at the front desk and they said they would try to do something. I think they tried something, though I don't know what they could have done since the heat wasn't on but the room seemed a bit cooler on the subsequent days. It was still pretty warm but not unbearably hot as on the first day. Also, there was an attachment in the shower that didn't work but again no big deal. The only other thing was that the safety box was on a very high shelf in the closet and I had stand inside the closet to barely reach it. But it wasn't a big deal. I managed to stow my belongings without too much exertion. I would definitely stay here again and recommend this hotel to all my friends. Lisätietoja

We were in NYC to attend a friend's wedding, 2 night stay for Nov. 13 - 15. We were very pleased with the location, close proximity to the 4-5 train as well as F train lines. We were able to take the train everywhere we needed to go. We rode the bus from DC & it was within reasonable walking distance of our drop off location at Penn station. The price […] on hotels.com was very reasonable deal compared to other similar hotels & location. The only complaint (very minor) was the long wait to get the elevator & we ended up taking the stairs to our room on 4th floor on a few occassions. Also, our room keys were deactivated after the first night, so small nuisance of having to get new keys. An excellent hotel. Good friendly staff, clean rooms that are well furnished and larger than average by NYC standards. Ideal location too.

This hotel is in a great location, within walking distance of most mid-town locations. I was really impressed by the modern decor and cleanliness of the room.

And the minus is the very unclassy addition of a hefty, mandatory service charge on leaving the hotel. That is what sticks in my mind, rather than the overall pleasant experience.

The room was tiny and lovely. Had everything we needed and more. The lobby smells musty, so I was worried because of mold allergies, but the room was great. Clean and surprisingly airy for a small room. Nice little patio, sunset moment. I was very comfortable with my 9 month boyfriend...would have been less comfortable a few months ago (TINY room, living […] sort of on top of each other, and bathroom small and therefore RIGHT there). Would stay at this hotel in a second! The staff was extremely friendly and very helpful. Hotel was nice and clean. Loved our experience at The Roger!! Location is very convenient, but it was not easy to find the hotel at first time (especially when you are for the first time in NYC). The hotel is clean, people are nice. Rooms are pretty small but it is expected.

The staff at Hotel Roger Williams was most welcoming, patient, and friendly. Our accomodations were contemporary, yet warm and comfortable. Great breakfast! We will absolutely stay here again on our next visit to NY.

The Hotel Roger Williams was a pleasant surprise. The common areas were immaculate, sophisticated and classy- everything I would want from a boutique hotel. The staff was beyond friendly and the location of the hotel- one block from the 6 line of the subway and only a few blocks from Penn Station- was perfect. The one and only complaint I have was the air vent made a constant noise anytime it kicked in so any tv watching had to be turned up. Aveda toiletries were great. The mezzanine lounge was chill and low key yet comfortable and the constant downtempo bossanova vibe was exactly what I wanted from a weekend jaunt to New York City. Hotels was great!! Was there with my 16 yr old granddaughter....she LOVED the hotel. All staff there were as nice as we have ever encountered. Would stay there again in a "New York Minute." Truly, for us the hotel was perfect, great location and everyone working there made us feel important!!!

Everything was great, lounge, food, room and location.

Although my bed was very small for two people (a double bed that felt like a twin), The hotel was nice and service was good...I did not sleep at all because I thought I would slide off the bed.. (my boyfriend and I are not overweight!) If your man is tall and heavy set you are definitely in big trouble..The bathroom is two steps away from the bed and […] it came with a shower stall no tub...which I expected from other reviews. It's very good Hotel to stay in the Big Apple, and it's a sheap hotel too, There are a Metro Station near (1 Block) and the Penn Station (Bus, Metro and Rail) is a 5 blocks away.

This was my second time staying at this hotel. The first stay exceeded my expectations, but this time it was just so-so. My issue was with the check-in desk. I reserved a deluxe room, but when I arrived there were no deluxe rooms available. I was told, "go do something" and they would work on it. I also had to prove that I had actually booked the deluxe […] room, which was rediculous. The matter was eventually solve two hours later. I'm a travel agent and have stayed at a lot of New York Hotels, all larger than the Roger Williams. I really enjoyed this hotel, the rooms were very comfortable with very nice bathrooms. The hotel is convenient and not too far from major attractions. Overall, this hotel visit was very pleasant. The room itself was fantastic, with modern features and decor. The bathroom was very nice, and room was spacious. Only two negatives: First, I was not given the room I reserved - I booked a deluxe room with king size bed and view of madison ave. I got a smaller room, queen size bed and no view. I've stayed here quite a number of times and will continue to return. The staff is excellent. The size of the hotel is perfect, not too big and not too small. We did not find our room size, including the bathroom size, to qualify as a "Deluxe" accomodation. Also, a small window, with a view of nothing, behind the bed, covered by "sliding doors" and electric shade, making us feel like we were in a cave, didn't match up to "deluxe." Bathroom size is ridiculously small. The furniture and the room size was incongruous. […] When sitting at the desk, it was not possible for the other person to pass to the other side of the bed, on account of the bench at the foot of the bed. The bed was clean and comfortable. Appreciated the introduction to the book in the room, "City Secrets." Did not sample restaurant or fitness features. In summary, our room was disappointing. Small but efficient bathroom. Great bed. I would stay here again.

Excellent boutique property - location, service and value. Our stay here contributed to a great 2009 NYC marathon weekend. Definitely recommend to others and would stay here again. My only suggestion would be that the hotel offer complimentary coffee service for guests not wanting the breakfast buffet.
