This hotel is funky, historic... good lobby but weird folks tend to make their way into it from Mission Street, Friendly staff. Not going back just because of the neighborhood... otherwise fairly priced, clean. etc.

Clean and very well priced!

It said "FREE PARKING" as soon as i got to the hotel they charged a night to park in the hotel and on top of that it takes valet 30 minutes to bring the car to the front. Customer service badly except for a guy that helped us out at 3am Sunday morning. I needed to call 911 because my friend had trouble breathing and the hotel phone was not working. […] i had to run three flights of stairs to the front desk to call 911. Guest for get it! NO VISITORS! one employee said after 9pm another said 6pm and the last night they said 10pm. These company needs to get better customer service individuals. This hotel is situated in the Tenderloin disctrict of San Francisco, a.k.a., one of the worst parts of the city. The building itself looks run down from the outside. There are boarded up storefronts on the street level of the hotel and a strip club opens up at night on Market street right next to the hotel entrance. Everyone walking the streets around […] the hotel is high on something or actively smoking weed in the street. I was solicited for change or a dollar just about every ten feet. It takes about a five block walk in either direction of market street or north to get out of this district. I did not feel safe at this hotel and would never stay there again no matter how cheap it was. Don't display cell phones around the hotel, we were warned about the "smart phone swipers" who will run up and steal your phone. Just spend the money and stay in another district: North Beach, Marina, Union Square, or Financial District are some suggestions. Somewhere else! Lisätietoja

A cheap hotel, NASTY neighbourhood! Clean enough, EXPENSIVE internet charges! Close to Union Square, and right next to BART. Also adjacent to MUNI busses and streetcars. NOT an area for the timid - smack in the middle of the TENDERLOIN, a sketchy and intimidating place unless you are used to dealing with the fringe elements.

The location is perfect. It is right next to the civic center muni stop and a short trip up Market street to Union Square, where you can find a visitor center to buy 3-day passes for the muni, take the cable car to fisherman's whart, or do all the shopping your heart could desire. The specific block the hotel is on does have a lot of homeless people […] hanging around but so does the rest of San Francisco. Best deal for the price, for sure! My only complaint is the hotel doesn't have central AC. But, they do provide a heater and a fan in room. So keep that in mind. Lisätietoja

This place could get 3 stars from me because the room was comfy and it was located ideally for my visit; however, the parking situation sucks so bad that it's worth completely bashing this place. First, there is room for two cars on the valet section of the curb, so if it's taken by people checking in then you're just going to have to circle the block […] until there slow valet people do their job. Second, you need the valet because the parking garage they use isn't even remotely close to the location of the hotel, so you'd have to hump your luggage through a very busy district of SF. Lastly, it tooks us 40 minutes to have our vehicle brought to us the following morning. The staff is pretty bad, too, but not the worst compared to other horrible staff at SF hotels. Lisätietoja

If you want a decent place to stay with no frills, this is the place. Its clean with elelavators, smoking outside only. there are a few resturants near by try the club san at the pasty shop accross the street, they are great to take to go and eat later for 5.99 they can.t be beat., Bart 1 block, cable cars 1 block. This hotel nearly ruined our vacation. We felt scared to go out during the day -- let alone the night. The room was old, the bathtub dirty, the shower spray sparse. There was nothing free: pay for computer use, pay for coffee service, newspaper? Are you kidding. We would have cancelled after one night and stayed somewhere else, but they book non-refundable. […] Very, very dissappointed. Renoir hotel was quite reasonably priced compared to the big corporates near Fisherman's Wharf, but we were still disappointed by the hotel. The location could be used in an episode of The Wire, and the one working elevator was geriatric in terms of age and speed. The view out of our window was of the porn theatre opposite where an amply-breasted […] lady on a billboard asks if you want to Feel The Magic. Made me laugh. I did not expect much from this hotel. I was pleasantly surprised. It was very clean, well maintained. it's a no frills place but very convenient to numerous transporation options to access san francisco. Mostly european travelers staying here. Only downside for this cheap hotel is the neighborhood has alot of homeless and pan handlers around. Mostly […] becuase the train station is across the street. Close to destinations, but elevator took 5 min to get up or down 7 flights. Amenities were old and un-clean feeling. Only plus was the kindness of the front desk help.

The hotel is always surrounded by homeless people and drug dealers. I dont blame the homeless people bcoz they dont have anywhere to go. But the presence of drug dealers round the clock is very disgusting. esp in front of this hotel.

I found the hotel a bit dated, but clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. It seems to cater to mostly European clientele. I was able to walk everywhere I wanted to go (museums, AT&T Park, Chinatown, North Beach, the piers), without a problem. The area is not 5 star but I never felt threatened. This hotel was good for just what i needed, a place to sleep after experiencing San Francisco. The pictures are a little misleading and it was very hard to park with all if the one way streets. Also not included with the price is the very high valet price that you must get. All in all it was a very average hotel, but did have good history.

I was shocked by the poor condition of the hotel. Basic maintenance has been so badly neglected throughout the building and in the rooms that the place ought to be condemned. This is a terrible hotel We stayed for 4 nights in July 2011 and would never stay here again. The elevator was broken the whole time we were there and the other elevator was so slow it took us 15mins to get to the lobby from the third floor with our luggage when it came to leaving. The front desk staff are very rude. Look out in particular for the […] french lady with the short black hair (she wouldn't tell me her name when I asked). The ice machine was broken, the internet was not working (and is an extra charge of $6 per hour if you want it) The TV remote control didn't work, the phone was broken. The hot water took close to 5 mins to come through and the shower was terrible. If you do have the misfortune of staying here there is an Apple store and also a Westfield shopping centre about 5 mins walk away that both have free wi fi. It really did become pretty pathetic how nothing worked. Although it is located within a short drive to most things it is in a very bad neighbourhood. Homeless people sit outside and drug dealers and hustlers will try and sell you things as soon as you walk out the door. There are no reasonable places to eat close by so expect to travel for decent food. The one exception would be the food court at the Westfield about 5 mins up the road. It is a very noisy place also. Every time someone turns on a tap or flushes the toilet you know all about it. They even give you ear plugs - but 2 pairs for 4 people were not much help. There is no individual air conditioning for the room so the temperature was quite warm. Nothing is complementary here. There is tea and coffee in the lobby for a charge and parking is $32 per night. We requested a roll away bed for our son but were told that you have to book through there website it you want your request considered and that they don't check requests through third party sites such as hotel.com. I have not much to choose , so we had to choose this hotel for the location and the price. it is quite expensive the night.

Really bad area, the first night we were there there was some guy driving down the road screaming how he wanted a hooker and couldn't wait to find one. Inside most of the furniture looked like it had been through a war. I mean it is a old hotel and crappy district. you can't ask for much but they are still charging for it like it is the nicest hotel […] in san francisco. Save your cash go somewhere else. I stayed at this hotel 7 years ago and found it to be rather old and unkempt. But coming back to it I found the hotel to be very improved. Not only the rooms but the cleanliness of the hotel. And lets not forget the staff. All that we came in contact with were very friendly and helpful. Still the neighborhood isn't the greatest but I felt safe in the […] hotel and surrounding area. The hotel is right by a BART station and is centrally located, making it very convenient. However, be aware that it is not in the best area of town from a safety perspective. Crime is high in the area and don't be surprised if there are people outside the hotel yelling in the street at night.

The hotel is situated at Market street, which is the perfect place to get around (trolley, bus, walking) You have walking distance to all Turist Traps. The staff are of high quality, and they are fluently in several languages. All is perfect...

an extremely poor quality of a hotel.... I would not stay here again because of lack amenities, when booking this hotel I was under the impression it would be a historical building in a historical part of town, and thought wow what a great place to stay. Was I mistaking when the said historical they meant old and decrepit in a rundown part of town, […] the homeless were peeing and sleeping around the hotel. The staff were not very helpful or friendly, the rooms were very small they had no heat no frig, and no microwaves. So when we went out to eat one night to a very expensive restaurant and there was no were to keep our leftovers. Oh and Parking was awful and very restricted, the hotel wanted to charge us 27.00 dollars a night for them to park our vehicle, they tried to make it look like it was the best way to handle the parking issues in the city. They tried to take advantage of the fact we were not from the area. Oh and what hotel charges for coffee this one does, there was no continental breakfast and I have to say it again they charged for coffee. They charged for internet also. Oh and one last thing the TV worked but there was no channels it only had snow. So NO I WOULD NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN NO MATTER HOW CHEEP. Lisätietoja

I had business to handle at the courthouse and it was an easy 3 blocks away. Convenient to downtown theatre, museum, shops. Iffy neighborhood but I'm not familiar w/SF and I saw a number of iffy neighborhoods in my various walks. Such a pleasant staff, such a clean albeit dated room. Relatively quiet. My friend and I recently stayed at the renoir, our booking was for 4 nights however we moved to the Sheraton in fishermans wharf as the neighbourhood was horrifying! Alot of crime let me just say. The restaraunts are average, showdogs is decent though, and homeless people frequently come in and ask for money or take your food... Not recommended at the […] staff were rude and asked too many personal questions. This Hotel is really a bad decision!!!! It is such terrible and it charges me extra money to stay here. it does not has air conditioner, fan, neither. Its bath is so terrible, i will never stay this hotel any more.

For the price, you can't find a better hotel in the city. The place was clean, more than could be said for a lot of hotels that cost the same. The rooms were small but totally adequate for us, since we spent most of the days out and about. People may have problems with the location, but despite its rough edges I don't think the neighborhood is at all […] dangerous. If you walk a block up Market Street you're back in tourist-central. It's a small price to pay for being so close to BART, the cable cars, Union Station, and dozens of MUNI bus stops. the hotel located in a crowded neighborhood and also you may here people fighting outside in street, I saw cops coming to this neighborhood 2 times to solve an issue in one night stay. Was a nice reception and rooms were decent sized and cleaned daily. Was enough to suit or needs for a trip to the city. Although our only complaints would be the rooms were cold and the corridors had a somewhat strange smell, although this could notbe smelt inside your rooms. To the hotels credit they were in the process of re-laying areas of the hotel […] and re-building the main entrance for refurbishment. After emerging from the BART station at Civic Center, I was uncomfortable with the night scene at the Tenderloin. The hotel itself is over 100 years old, and in dire need of updating. The matress was of the poorest quality imaginable, and my morning shower was luke-warm. Service staff was friendly, but way too many negatives for me to recommend. Once I finally managed to get to sleep (loud people in the streets, train going by periodically, traffic, etc) I was awakened to the release of drunken revelers from the strip club at 2AM. I think the Renoir is a great hotel. I really enjoy my stay there whenever I book a room there. The surrounding area is not for the faint-at-heart insofar as it is very much inhabited by people in varying modalities of mental-illness, drug-addiction, and homelessness. I've never had any trouble in this area, as it appears none of these folks are "looking" […] for trouble. That said, it doesn't feel entirely safe walking to and from BART at 1am to the Renoir. The Daytime hours are entirely different, with much bright light and easy travel to and from Union Square, BART, and the Mission. Lisätietoja

I thought we were staying in a safer area. I was afraid to walk around the " hood". Very noisy, very many homeless people. Hotel was run down and needed a HUGE face lift. Staff were nice. 1 star or 2 star at best.
