the hotel was clean,nice n it was very spacious..

Everything was a very short drive away. It was extremely quiet. Parking was ample. The continental breakfast was minimal. I think I had more things packed into my lunch bag than the continental breakfast had available. The toast and bagels were stale. My room was "out of the WIFI area" so I they gave me an eternet cable. I wanted to stay an extra day […] and was told the night before that I just had to call downstairs and inform the front desk. When I did so a crabby old woman told me that wasn't possible...I would have to check out of the room and check back in at a rate that was $10 more...at which point I checked out and drove back to NYC. Other than the crabby old woman who didn't even try to get me to stay I had a pleasant stay and would go again. Lisätietoja

My husband liked this one better than the next hotel that cost $100 per day more. Nice owners, newer appointments in room. Older so it has some signs of age but don't we all. We did get a noisy neighbor one night - manager asked them to turn radio down. I didn't notice the difference.

we are very happy and satisfied with our stay at Howard Johnson. The rate was good and affortable, the room is clean and comfortable. If you are trying to save from spending money they also have continental breakfast. I recommend it.

My brother and I stayed there for 1 night. When we got there we checked in but couldn't understand what the clerk was saying behind the plexy glass. Not once did he verify my identity. The envelope he gave with the door cards had our room number on it but the cards wouldn't open the door so I go back to the clerk and use the side window. I see him sitting […] down with his laptop on FB and he tells me to use the front window. I told him what my problem was and he giggles and says "I'm sorry, you are in the next room over." The shower leaked all over the floor because the shower curtain rod was broken. Overall, the price was good for having a place to crash for the night and the location was ok too. nice, clean,quiet. continental breakfast left alot to be desired..but otherwise nice managers, and good restful sleep.

I got a great price on the room but in this case I got less than I paid for. My requirements were wifi in room and two double beds. No Wifi They gave us a cable, it didn't work. I called Hotel.com which upset the manager. My friend who is very computer literate was able to "remake his router" so it would work. I haven't stayed in a HoJo's hotel in 18 years. I selected this hotel because of location (fishing off of the Cheasapeak Bay Bridge Tunnel Pier). The room was clean, front desk friendly, helpful and polite. I called to notify them that I was arriving late, they calmly stated that the room is ready and will be waiting for me when I arrive, please drive […] safely. I enjoyed the Hotel, no complaints. I'm not sure why some are saying that is to far from the beach. 10-15 minute drive to the beach isn't bad, something I am use to at home. If you want the luxury of ocean front property you pay the ocean front price. It serves its purpose all you want is somewhere to lay your head for the night..

I can't exprress my point enough. Scummy nasty you won't like it. We ended up staying at the Hilton for 20.00 more per night best 40 bucks I ever spent!

the room is clean, but the bathtub needs to be fixed, it looks disgusting when showering. staff are nice and friendly, and polite. i would stay at this hotel again, if it gives some cosmetics to the bathroom. and price should be lower, and it is even better.

We were in a bind to try and find alternative accommodations because the first place we booked, the Clipper Inn, in Virginia Beach had cockroaches! We immediately called to complain and a nice representative in Egypt found us this place on short notice. It's location is not the best as we were on the ocean before and right in the heart of the action, […] but the rooms were clean, the maids came everyday and the beds were made so well you could bounce a dime off them! They had a decent continental breakfast but the eat in area was very cramped. There was plenty of parking and the price was very reasonable for the accommodations. The staff were very courteous too, and helpful with directions and any questions we had about the area. The best thing about the hotel was that we were not on the flight path of the numerous jets that fly over from the base close to Virginia beach. They give discounts to seniors and military staff as well. Hotels.com gave us a great rate too, that we ended up getting a refund on the difference from the Clipper Inn's cost to HoJo's. Hojo is not a glamourous as it used to be, but it's still a good price for the service. If you want a beautiful place with a pool close to the beach, this is not the place for you, but if you wish to save $$$ and don't mind a 10 minute drive to the beach, this place will work for you. The room itself was clean, and housekeeping did a satisfactory job for the three days that we stayed. The door was hard to use, had to throw your weight against the door to open and shut the door completely. There was an inch gap at the bottom of the door that allowed the heavy rains we received for two nights to run into the room and soak the carpet, […] leaving a wet mildew smell to the room. The older man working the front desk was hard to understand, and he was not friendly or courteous at all. On the third day there a visitor came with a barking dog and stayed in the room above us and the rude man at the front desk called our room waking everyone up about ‘our’ barking dog. No apology when he realized wrong room, just hung up on me. Wireless was advertised on the hotels.com site, but the rooms do not offer wireless which caused a slight inconvenience. Coffee pot still had the used grounds, filter, and little bit of coffee left in the pot from the previous guest. Television sat lower than the bed making it hard to lay in bed and watch television. A lot of people have been bashing this hotel. I have to say that the hotel had a lot to offer! It may not be close to the beach, but it is conveniently located very close to I-64. The hotel is also right next door to a grocery store, fast food restaurants, and some nicer sit-down restaurants. My bed was very comfortable, the sheets were clean, and the […] bathroom was very clean as well. The vicinity of the hotel may seem far away from the main action of Virginia Beach (aka near the boardwalk or the beach itself) but I felt VERY safe, especially since their is military housing right across the street practically and an army base. Very safe area to stay in and VERY quiet. The staff was very polite and checked me in and out efficiently. Was a quiet place to sleep at night and I had no problems from the cleaning staff trying to enter the room. That is what the "Do not disturb" sign is for. Thus, I highly recommend this hotel for it's cheap price, comfortable and clean rooms, great access to the highway and restaurants, and safe area! Lisätietoja

The Manager accused us of not paying the fee for the 5th person in our room in a very rude way. When I told her that we definitely booked and paid for 5 persons way in advance she said that it is our fault that she can not really check that because we booked the room online through another website which is not theirs. Sorry ...but why is that my fault? […] Then she added the question " From which part of Russia are you?" which I found to be pretty inappropriate since we are not Russian at all and nobody was in a smalltalk mood at that point. When we were told that the extra bed is charged seperately (nobody told us that in advance) I gave her my credit card to pay for it and 10 minutes later she sent someone to our room who told us that my card was declined. Again...not the truth. I told them that I will check my bank account and will also show them the booking confirmation for the 5of us, so I returned to the front desk again. Another employee told me that everything was fine and my credit card was not declined as well. He was very friendly and also apologized for his managers behavior since he was with us when we talked to her. But we never heard anything from the manager again. Lisätietoja

For the money, this was a pretty good choice in VA Beach. It was a little bit far out, but it was an easy drive to the beach. However, the "continental breakfast" was disgusting. The bagels were stale and there were not very many options. Would some fruit or yogurt be too much to ask?

I was very disappointed that this hotel indicated it was close to the beach and it was MILES from the beach. The hotel also advertised that it had Free WI-Fi for it's customers. This was not true. I was unable to connect to the Internet during the entire stay. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

My friends & I had booked a hotel at Howard Johnson in Virginia Beach, VA because we were attending a gospel benefit concert at Regent University that weekend. Upon check-in, the front desk staff was very courteous & gave us recommendations for places to dine in the area. However, he did not speak very much english. I don't want to sound rude but because […] of his lack of english skills, I had a hard time getting questions answered. I had asked about the internet connection & he handed me a cable to connect in my hotel room. When I tried to log onto the internet, it asked me for a password....and when I tried to ask the front desk guy for the password, he kept giving me all kinds of mixed up answers. Fortunately, I didn't need the internet that bad so I just decided not to use the internet during my stay. 2. The room was very dusty. I went to go turn the light on, and there was dust lieing all around the bulb. Also, the bathtub was very dirty. The overall room wasn't very clean. We stayed in a non-smoking room but it still smelled like smoke. With the hotel staff being very courteous and nice, I think this place has potential but the cleaning staff need to do a better job cleaning the room. Working at a hotel myself, I expected to be greeted or at least a little southern hospotality. The gentlemen just stared at me and paused. I had to say something first. He wanted me to sign a couple things. Before I signed additonal info I asked him what was it for and he couldnt answer me then told me to forget it. I guess I can't expect much from […] a Howard Johnson.Asked him for a comment card, he told me it was in the room. And to my surprise there was no card. The tub was chipping and the shower curtain moldy! Gross! the breakfast area is really small with about 3 tables and tiny bagels you would have to eat about 4 to get full. I wont recommend. I dont know if we just received a room with a gross bathroom my friends next door said there bathroom was fine but the shower curtain was too small for the shower..Other than that the hotel is about 20 min from the beach-boardwalk area. We went to VA for wrestling, so we didn't want to pay top dollar for a room. We were please with our room. It was clean and comfortable and quiet, would stay again.

Room was non-smoking, but smelled bad. Quality of decor & ammenities was subpar, website picture appeared better than actual stay.but you get what you pay for!

My boyfriend and I chose this hotel because it seemed to be a good value. After arriving it became apparent that it would have been in our best interest to spend a little more money. Upon arrival our room smelled horrible and there was hair in the tub! Housekeeping knocked on our door on our first morning there and I told them we would be leaving shortly […] and that we would like new towels and sheets. The lady handed me two new towels and asked if I would like new sheets to put on the bed myself because she had two more rooms to do and then she was leaving...Unacceptable! the room was dirty.the shower had mold on the shower curtain and a dirty wash cloth stuck in the corner of the shower. the bathroom door would stick. we were locked out of the room the 2nd day and the staff was very rude. about 20 min from the beach. way over priced and definitely take your own pillows

Upon arrival toilet overflowed...before use. My room was not cleaned on the second day and the toilet overflowed again! I should have carried my own pillow

all in all i enjoyed my stay except for the last night,i went out to the front desk around 9pm to ask for towels and wash clothes and was told they would bring them to me...i never received any

When you look at this hotel online, everything is nice and neat, a 'wow, this for that much'. Dont believe it. When I arrived, my room was filthy. Dusty, dirty, bathroom was disgusting. I had to spend probably 30 min of trying to get another room. I finally did, and it was better, but not by much. you are about 20-30 min away from the beach and right […] by military housing. Halls were dirty. Breakfast was very poor. Juice was hot, coffee not warm. Bathtub was filthy. Didn't have room service one day. Remote control for television does not work. Staff plays ignorant.For overnight stay is o.k.

The hotel was in decent shape, it surprised me with the overall appearance of the room it was pretty clean tv worked air conditioning worked.
