Great location, pretty quiet and nice staff. The room was quite basic and "vintage". I was disappointed with the bathroom floor - it was not cleaned and full of someone else's hair.

I was switched 2 times on my three-night stay here. First, because my room was small and cramped. Second, because my wifi wasn't working. Wifi wasn't working in my third room but I got tired of complaining. For my trouble they gave me a voucher for an "executive" breakfast, supposedly worth $15. We have stayed here before and for dollar value, this hotel is very good. It is close to many of the sights and most things are within walking distance. It's an old building but tastefully decorated. Staff has always been helpful.

This hotel could not be in a better location. The rooms are a fair size and comfortable, with comfy beds too. It's also quiet in the rooms. Check in service was fantastic and lobby reminded me of Klimpton-Chicago. Room was urban sized and adequate. It did have an odor that apparently from other reviews has always been a problem. Also coffee service doesn't start until late and none in room. On plus side, art decor inside very nice. Excellent location to China Town and to cable car.

Safe and pleasant location. Excellent experience was tempered by being woken up by the dust men who came at around 6 am on weekdays as well as the sound of traffic on the road.

We had a wonderful time staying at the hotel while attending a conference. The room was a good-size, well furnished and quiet at night. The staff was amazing and very helpful. The only downside was that the hotel was not close to most of the public transportation in the city. A great value in a really good area, Nob Hill on one side, Union Square on the other, and not in the Tenderloin. Four things I looked for when booking for a night out in the City. Small rooms. Very lttle sound insulation. Tiny sink does not fit in the bathroom and is located in the main room. Hotel needs some serious updating. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is great. Without it, the hotel would have nothing to offer.

My wife and I just loved our stay at this quaint botique hotel! It is centrally located--just a block and a half away from Chinatown gate! We got a room on the 8th floor; it was clean and quiet; just right for our stay in SF. We needed a room this quiet and away from noises that could come from the street. It's a older hotel, which showed in the fixtures and through a bit of a musty smell in the hallways, but it's a great location and a great price. Plus, with the a/c unit in my room, there was definitely no mustiness as I slept.

Many places in the middle of the city can be noisy.. Our room was in a quiet alley way, though in the summer with windows open it could be noiser.. Still the quietest place in the city I've been.. About 2 blocks from union square (great location), great night staff (day staff was a bit more "all business").. Staff is very friendly and the service was good. The hotel is old similar to the other hotels in the area. However, it is well kept. The room was large and the amenities were ok. Being a bit north of Union Station, the location was very nice.

While I don't have a sensitive nose, the spell that permeated every area of this hotel was physically offensive. Coupled with the fact that the room, bathroom and common areas (except for part of the lobby) were worn, tired, in desperate need of an overhaul and seemed unclean. I ended up having to pay for the time I didn't stay there since it was non-refundable even after having to spend two plus hours on the phone with Hotels.com. To add additional insult the rate I paid on Hotels.com was 40% higher than what they were asking for on the day I checked in. Even if I the rate was 40% less I would never stay here even if my life depended on it. The hotel is a convenient, short walk to union square, but one must remember the hills in San Francisco, so it's at an incline. The staff are friendly and helpful. It is old, but clean. The best thing is the free wifi, which is rare in San Francisco. We felt welcome by this hotel who's staff we so accommodating, helping us with our sightseeing trips, airport transfers and general information needed. In addition they stored our excess luggage prior to and after check out so we could make the most of our time in San Fransisco! our sightseeing before our late flights.

The room had not been dusted up high in months. The light fixture in the bathroom had quite a case of fuzz-head. The toilet paper roll is in such and odd place that TWICE i knocked it into the toilet bowl. Yup! Two rolls wasted.

Fantastic location, clean room, a bit old but fine. Friendly staff, though I rated it 4 for service because when I requested something be brought to my room, the service was very slow or non-existent. But apart from that they were very nice. Cosy lobby.
